Ok its not the drive motor or the lens. Why because I replaced this and bought a part. This is the problem, I turn it on the disc spins I get the ps1 logo and then the disc stops spinning and it takes me to the CD or memory card menu. No disc will read at all, cd or game cd. Anyway these are the tests Ive done:

I thought it was that little button you press with a pen when the lid is closed so I pushed it with a pen it did not keep spinning

I even opened it and placed paper where that little black piece is that the door pushes down on to make it spin, it still wont spin

So I thought it was the lens, spindle, or maybe the motor to make it spin so I went on ebay and bought a entire lens unit for 8buks real cheap. Anyway same problem it still does not spin. I have no idea what gives. Please help me I love this console and love these old school games and play them often still

I think you need special tools to mount/calibrate 'optical pickup'. better let expert do it.

What does that mean and what tools do I need? I took it to a repair shop 3 weeks ago and they said they werent sure and were waiting on a spare part that will take 4 weeks to deliver, I assumed they meant the lens samething I thought so I told them to mod my ps2 which took 1 hr only to save myself time. Too bad the ps2 wont play all my games I think its a bad chip they gave me or the poorer brands. Too bad theres no site that sells modded ps1 consoles because i will gladily pay to save the hassel

it means that optical lens and laser need high precision mounting.
