Certain PSX games no color?

Hi all, I have a NTSC (J) SCPH-103 PS1 console and I tried burning psx games and playing on it. So far everything was okay until I tried 3 games and didn't have any color on them.

Bomberman Fantasy Race - USA
Bomberman Party Edition - USA
Command & Conquer Red Alert: Retaliation USA

I have tried burning a Fantasy Race PAL edition, didn't work either. I tried changing the tv mode from PAL to NTSC to Auto to anything that was available, but I still get the same result: black and white screen.

What confuses me so much is that I am running NTSC games on a NTSC psx. Why am I seeing b/w images? Would be great if someone can help me out.

check the cables maybe? that's about all i could think of atm

Checked. It's currently a PS2 av cable. But as of my knowledge, the cables of PS1/2/3 are all the same, no? Could that be the problem? I tried switching between 3 TVs and all the different color mode (PAL/NTSC) settings but same result.

Sounds like they're actually PAL not NTSC games, if you downloaded them (which of course you didn't as we don't do piracy here :p ) try downloaded them again from a different site. Just because a site claims they're USA versions doesn't mean they are.

Just checked a site that's for people who want to make sure copies of all classic systems exist ;) and the only Bomberman fantasy race I can find is PAL (ISO Format - Unpacked Size: 223MB - compressed size: 3.02 MB (3,168,544 bytes) ), is that the version you have too?

Looks like you can fix the problem by patching them too, google is your friend when looking for patching software :)

Yes, they do sound like PAL games and not NTSC games, which is why i am extremely confused. If I downloaded them (which of course I haven't because I don't do piracy), what are the odds that all 3 of them are PAL instead of NTSC that was stated? But I will follow your advice and try patching them to NTSC because google is my friend. (:

Tried patching to NTSC and it gets better: nothing shows up after the first PS loading screen. -sigh-

test your iso's in epsxe see if the work in colour.......

if you are using a composite cable then you are probably out of luck.... you need either s-video or component to display the colour...
just googled "difference ntsc and ntsc-j" and thats the info i got........

damn that's some awesome compression! i've rarely seen it that well. usually it's ecm files which just annoy me; i guess it saves space but it's pretty much not usable.

how are other games working? do other games display color?
