Perhaps this is due to the old BootManager theme only having these modes (NTSC/PAL/VGA). These settings are stored in the BootManager Theme configuration file (THMINFO.PBT), which you can also see in BootManager (Configuration > Interface Configuration > BM Video Mode) for the currently active theme. If you unzip the BootManager firmware file (ex: cc_software_29.zip) and extract the cc-upgrade.bin/.cue files on your hard drive, you will see this configuration file located in "BM\THMS\<selected theme>\THMINFO.PBT". You can create your own theme, edit the THMINFO.PBT file to have more resolution modes (ex: 480p) and install from a usb device. Here's the
Crystal Chips wiki theme tutorial, although it might not make much sense, but we can help you if choose to make your own theme. Personally, I just took an already created THMINFO.PBT file and edited it to what I wanted. I'm not sure if that will work, but that's my only train of thought right now as to a possible solution. Although, I have no idea what the display limitations of the PS2 or the Crystal Chips are. If Jones23 is still around, I'm sure he would know more about that.

I can't run the wizard while the ps2 is in 16:9 b'c bootmanager freezes at the crystal-chips logo.

Yes sorry, I forgot about the obvious problem...

Is there supposed to be an option in the normal ps2 menu to choose progressive instead of interlaced?

Honestly I have no idea, I've never had any way to test my PS2 on a progressive display.
