Today, kmeaw, has unveiled a project he has been working on, titled the Homebrew PKG Repository (HPR). The HPR is an app for your PS3 (or it will possibly be built into future custom firmware), that allows you to download and install homebrew PKG files directly from your PS3. The project is still a work in progress and still requires a master server before the app will work. Stay tuned to PSGroove.com as more information becomes available on this late breaking project.

Homebrew PKG Repository (HPR) is currently a WIP but runs on a PS3 with a built-in PKG installer, basically, it is a very simple embedded Web browser that can install PKGs.

It uses HTTP to download PKG files and supports a small subset of HTML, as the builtin PS3 browser is much better than this one in displaying HTML but it cannot install PKGs although a complex markup for package descriptions isn't necessary.

Finally, there is no download available yet because there is no master server at the moment.

why not just make the default browser allow pkg installation? or better yet, port Firefox with built in PKG installation?

Would you like a mango lemonade or something else? anything? Of course the dev had that idea. But that's not easy. U can't fly if you can't walk first.

Yeah I agree that was uncalled for to be honest. these ****y asswipes should just get banned, it's alright to brainstorm as well.

Its getting Better and Better... All those fantastic Homebrews makes this console even more fantastic.... Its not about the Copies but it gives it a little bit more edge!

Megadrive emu
Capcom emu

and I pray for the near future, Mame and MegaCD emu would be fantastic!!

Would someone be nice enough to upload original eboot and param.sfo for eternal sonata, i had a patched version and reallly wanna avoid backin up again just for those eboots.

He is just saying that modifying the original PS3 browser or getting FireFox to run under GameOS would take too much work and time to be practical at this point when you can create your own app to handle the same task with much less work.

Even the official PlayStation store stopped relying on the browser in favor for a native app, because the PS3 browser sucks anyway.

This is the right way to go as far as a homebrew store perspective. A dedicated homebrew application for finding and installing homebrew that does not rely on the PS3 browser (so you wouldn't need to mod it for each firmware update).

For the people who want FireFox, your best bet is to wait for a fully working Linux distro. Once your on Linux, you can install and use FireFox from there (if its not already included).
