Its been a busy week for the hardware side of the scene, with the announcement of 3 individual items. This mod by
Varicela has been designed most likely with the intent of using them to finally break the dualboot firmware barrier. It is compatible with the infectus chip(and named appropriately), with some added sockets to connect it and specific compatibility and specialization for
256MB NAND PS3s (sorry slim owners).
To explain why it was made I will quote PS3Crunch:

If you've just tuned in recently, the ability to dualboot would mean running Custom FirmWare (CFW) and official FirmWare (OFW) on the same system. This announcement is particularly interesting as the creator Varicela was the first to successfully execute a downgrade on a 3.56+ console. If anyone has a fighting chance at dual booting to work, it would be this developer.
With the recent flood of hardware mods one could imagine it wouldn't be long before someone strikes gold. When this mod is out of WIP (Work In Progress) and ready for release, you'll see it here at PSX-SCENE.
