PSX-SCENE Forum Discussion for Sony PlayStation/PsOne/PS2/PS3/PSP/PS VITA
  • WEB CENSORED - Stop SOPA and PIPA! Save the internet!

READ ASAP: On January 24th, the US Senate will begin voting on two bills that could change the internet as you know it. If passed these bill could potentially censor the web, as well as place American business into harmful situations.

I urge everyone to do something about this while you still have a chance. Please, everyone take the time to read this, and then take action and spread awareness.

Over the next 24 hours several groups are getting together to help take a stand against the two new bills in Congress; Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA), and Protect IP Act (PIPA).

Google has censored their banner, and when clicked on brings you to their "End Piracy, Not Liberty" landing.

Two bills before Congress, known as the Protect IP Act (PIPA) in the Senate and the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) in the House, would censor the Web and impose harmful regulations on American business. Millions of Internet users and entrepreneurs already oppose SOPA and PIPA.

The Senate will begin voting on January 24th. Please let them know how you feel. Sign this petition urging Congress to vote NO on PIPA and SOPA before it is too late.
Wikipedia will be "blacking -out" over the next 24 hours, but as Jay Jay points out, "It's really not behaving as a blackout. If you do a search, and get taken the info you are seeking. Quickly pres ESC and it will not revert to the blackout page"

Imagine a World Without Free Knowledge
For over a decade, we have spent millions of hours building the largest encyclopedia in human history. Right now, the U.S. Congress is considering legislation that could fatally damage the free and open Internet. For 24 hours, to raise awareness, we are blacking out Wikipedia.
Even AnonOps are urging people to stay off twitter, as a show of support for the anti-SOPA movement.

Join us and pledge not to tweet between 8AM-8PM EST (1300-0100 UTC) on 18 January [check your local timezone here - Use hashtags #SOPAblackout and #J18

Please visit these websites now, and show your support. Help save the internet!

I really wish I could take this bill seriously, but the name (Sopa-Soup) and that other one (Pipa-Pipe) it`s making me crack a laught.

In all seriousness I hope these laws never see the light of day.

Just because they are under they same name/umbrella, doesnt mean that they all have one management.

I find that signing online petitions or voicing your opinions, rarely if at all does anything. If the Senators agrees with the bill, it will pass. If Senators do not agree with the bill, then it will not pass, However for momentarily and will be brought back up sometime in the future. Most often times the average joe's opinions usually falls on deaf ears.
      Just my two cents.

Thanks for the link I did however think that you ment who got the bill (SOPA) started. If it is about comapines that support the idea of SOPA, then that list contains maybe around 100 companies:

      Updated SOPA Supporters

Keep in mind that this might not be up-to-date, so some of these companies might have withdrawn their support, and some companies might have been added as well.

And on that link you posted, it says that both Microsoft, Nintendo and Sony removed themself from supporting SOPA On that list i linked to above here, there are three Sony music companies listed, but remember that these are different companies than the Sony gaming companies.

Thanks, wow that's a long list. I wont be able to always never buy anything from them as remembering that list will be impossible. I'll try though.

Well, it has started. Website MEGAUPLOAD has been shut down today, and it's CEO revealed. Singer/Producer Swizz Beats was the one running the site. While not necessarily the work of SOPA or PIPA, we can all assume that the pressure is coming from the same group of people, or at least those affiliated.
