Sony is gearing up for a big event today. Many in the industry suspect that this will be the unveiling of Sony's next-generation gaming console the Sony PlayStation 4 - Codename: Orbis. Sony has been hinting this for sometime, however no official word has came from Sony on what this event will pertain to. While the latest videos from Sony "Evolution of PlayStation" that debut on the 15th of the this month with a new video daily leading up to this event today. Would indicate that they are prepping for the PS4 unveiling or some type of hardware release by going back in time and showcasing what the Playstation brand is all about. Many are eager for Sony to showcase their next Hardware adventure. Now we will finally be able to lay to rest some of the wild rumors that have been floating around about the PS4 of late .So be sure to checkout the big event kicking off @ 6pmEST Live. PlayStation Meeting 2013: it’s finally (almost) here! The festivities begin today, Wednesday February 20th starting at 6:00pm Eastern Time (3:00pm Pacific Time)….and you’ll be able to watch live right here from this humble PlayStation.Blog post. Set those bookmarks and timers!

If you simply must leave the warm, soothing embrace of PlayStation.Blog, you’ll also be able to follow along live on PlayStation.com, inside the virtual world of PlayStation Home, and even via your PS3’s Xross Media Bar — just look for it under the “What’s New” section.

It will be extremely disappointing if the announce is just the PS Vita with 4G previously posted here with the patent.

Sony are not dumb enough to pull that. They know people are expecting the PS4 announcement. CEO Kaz Hirai @kaz HiraiCEO has just said on Twitter:

"Wait a minute…we have no PS4 to show! I knew I forgot to pack something…."

He's obviously messing with people and knows that the PS4 is what everyone wants to hear about. They will talk about PSP and Vita too, according to sources.

Well the Ps4 was announced but no hardware shown but the controller. It was laggy on my end so i will try and seek a replay. will post in the article when available.

I watched the video, not impressed at all. My PC can already do all that, the only issues is GPU optimize and Direct3D. I remember they would do that in near future, I'm still waiting.

The PS4 sounds pretty awesome, and if the thing about PS4 games being playable on the PS Vita is true, I might just get both.

Of course I'm gonna have to wait and see what Microsoft and Valve will be showing off in their consoles before I make a final decision about what to buy.

I'll probably be buying 2 of the 3 consoles, that much is certain. The only thing I'm worried/excited about is PC gaming. Since these consoles are much newer and advanced, it could mean ports to PC are much higher in quality. OR it could mean the ports are shittier and maybe even too much work to port over to PC. Only time will tell...

Only saw the controller too. No console at all. Apparently they haven't showed it. Considering the specs and graphics I wouldn't be so eager to judge. Because, if you compare two PS3 games, one from the early years of PS3 and one from this year it's possible to see a huge difference. And not just in graphics, but also in rendering, engine and all. So, although the first videos did not impressed I'm gonna wait for the first games and imagine those a lot better, because that's probably where we are gonna be in a few months or years with the PS4. Also, it would be nice to play PS4 with the PS Vita. Like WiiU. We'll have to wait for full disclosure on how things are gonna work.

What I've learned so far:
1. The PS4 will have a new PSN using Gaikai streaming services. Named Playstation Cloud.
2. The Playstation Cloud will have partnership with Facebook and Ustream.
3. Their vision for the Playstation Cloud (PSC??) is for it to be the first gamer social network.
4. The new Dual Shock 4 will have a touch pad, a PS Move capabilities and a "Share" button.
5. No console was shown in the event.
6. The games shown were (might be missing a few): Knack, Killzone: Shadow Fall, Drive Club, Infamous: Second Son, Watch Dogs, Destiny (da Activision), Diablo III, Deep Down (da Capcom), The Witness (PS4 Exclusive).
7. The PS4 will not run PS3 and previously Sony console games.
8. It's gonna be possible to download a game and play it the same time while the download is still being done.
9. Apparently there is gonna be a new Little Big Planet. And it will use the new PS Move (that is combined with the Dual Shock 4) for new gaming experiences.

I'm really hoping the PS4 will be able to play ALL games at a solid 60 FPS. There are many games on PS3 that run at like 20-30 FPS. Games like Battlefield 3, Grand Theft Auto 4, Crysis 3, etc, all these games run at that range.

Running games at 60 FPS is one of the main reasons I game primarily on PC, though I still play exclusives on the PS3.

Oh man i have been a Sony fan from the git-go but this doesn't have me exited at all, nothing new...nothing original ......doesn't even look that much better...ugh... another generation with the same old rehashed crap but at a new premium price.

i liked the fact that Sony were probably the only one who could make a true Backward compatibility over Xbox. if they don't support it, what the point of buying ps4? or is it that hard to emulated?

and as for the dude who comments about how PC being able to do all that. you have to consider this: with the console, potential is unlimited compared to PC. with PC, a person has to have a balanced budgets to be able to upgrade their hardware when times deicate it. I can't afford a $450 video card just to play the latest game on the highest setting along with paying nearly $130 for an Intel "I3", "I5", or "I7" or an AMD cpu that is capable of running it.

It was said during the meeting. But, the also said that this would be eventually done. But, they didn't said how. I suppose it is because of that new protection against used games.

It's because PS3 will be still supported and new games will be released for it - Simply Sony want to still earn money from both consoles. I think in future Sony will make some kind of PS3 Soft-emu for PS4 (like new PS2 emu for PS2 Classics).

I kinda like the fact that it wont be backwards compatible.... it gives it a fresh start and shows there really thinking of the future instead of trying ride on the success of past systems.

Tho I would at least expect it to be able to play downloaded ps1/ps2/ps3 and even vita games in the future. I don't really care for remote play, so what If I can play the game 30ft away from my console, but would I would like to do is be able to play vita games on my home console, they have it backwards.

I also like that most of the features they really detailed were about bringing gamers together socially, and not trying to shove a bunch of social media sites, and subscription based video channels down are dam throats.

Edit: Oh yeah, how could you not be impressed by that Kill Zone video it was amazing, and Blizzard games coming back to home consoles after a 15 year leave, that's saying something

This maybe true, but I would like to add, they probably want us to rebuy all the games that would be ported from PS3 to PS4 just to be able to play the said game on the PS4.

What was the PS4 codename again? Was it Orbit or was it Orbis? Sony, must think it's fabulous for the PS4 to not have backward compatibility.
