  • Update: XMB File Manager Beta v0.03D & v0.03R by DeViL303

DeViL303 has released an update to his XMB File Manager, XMBFM, to Beta version 0.03. This time he has released two versions, one for debug XMB's and the other for retail XMB's. Although reports indicated that this was version 0.03 and announced as such, once installed you will see that the version number is 0.04. An explanation from DeViL303 in the quote below. (Thanks to bitsbubba for pointing this out.)

Gonna Change the suffix next time a its confussing because “R” could be for Rebug but it not, it should work on any 3.55 retail xmb, 3.55 kmeaw , 3.55 Official FW, rebug 3.55 retail xmb(in rebug mode) etc.

    Please note the following:
    • v0.03D is for Debug Rebug Menu
    • v0.03R is for 3.55 OFW, Kmeaw & Retail Rebug Menu

here's the quick tut from previous version since there's no instructions in the download or listed here

It requires you to switch 2 files from dev_flash. heres a quick tut:

I use multiman by selecting the mount dev_flash to dev_blind option.
then copy over the 2 files to thier locations
      category_game.xml goes in dev_blind/vsh/resource/explore/xmb/
      explore_plugin_full.rco goes in dev_blind/vsh/resource/
Also you can copy both XML files to the proper location - they are named differently and work for different modes of rebug (debug/retail). I used the explore_plugin_full.rco from the debug zip inside of the main zip. And for anyone that does not know unlink inside the menu means delete. Be careful you don't accidentally delete something important. I stand corrected on my "sketchy" comment on the earlier release. It's actually pretty handy - great job

edit: need more functionality other than deleting files. Don't think copying would work with the current setup, but being able to launch pkg files from any location would be good - I keep game fixes inside of the game backup folder in case I accidentally update the game and it doesn't work anymore I can easily fix it instead of trying to hunt the fix down again

sadly it's only in English (he didn't edit all the other language files) I did but I also got rid of all the stars

Edit: Did all languages really quick (all read English as does REBUG)

@bitsbubba - thanks for the update. You're more familiar with this kind of thing than I am. Would it be possible to add the xmb file manager into the install packages menu so that you could run a pkg file from anywhere?

thanks bitsbubba - I figure it would be easier for you since you're already familiar with it from your NFW days and all the other work you've done. It might not be doable, but I think it would be a nice addition

I wasnt going to bother Debunk this claim from Team-Acid openly like this as I worked with Team-acid once upon a time and I felt sorry for cfwprht but I hate to see PS3phews get credit for ANYTHING, so...here goes (maybe this will put an end to the Team-Acid/PS3phews Sh*te rumours.)

IMO The whole big Team-Acid gossip story started after Team-Acid/theunknownsecret/cfwprophet made a little mistake, He used multiman to mount dev_flash to dev_blind, But here is the booboo, He then tried to write his "4.00" self's and sprxs to the dev_flash, NOT TO DEV_BLIND LIKE HE SHOULD HAVE!! So over excited , he made a big post like "Ive Figured out how trueblue works" and "PS3 has previously unknown universal keys", He didnt even own a PS3 at this stage. So excited he went out and bought a ps3, then even went so far as to make a video "showing 4.00 vsh.self running on 3.41" (Ive already shown this video means nothing as 4.00 vsh.self and 3.41 vsh.self are the same size in multimans gui- see my attachment) . END OF STORY!!

Why do you think Team-Acid dissapeared so quickly after they said on another site that they were gonna release proof in less than 24hours?

Team-Acid should stick to making things for the wii in my opinion. Can this be an end to these completely unproved rumours about Team-Acid . please
P.S. Before anyone says "oh but team-acid released a acid xml hack pack for ps3" , Read the release thread, Team-acid didnt own a PS3 then either and it didnt work, they looked over a load of xmls, made some changes and then released it without one test!!

tHeUnKnOwNsEcReT , cmon, anyone with a name like that, written exactly like that, who noboady has ever heard of, is just looking for attention !

THE ONLY THING TEAM-ACID HAD THAT WAS ANY GOOD WAS THE FIRST PUP WITH DEBUG OPTIONS THAT INSTALLED ON RETAIL, BEFORE FIRST REBUG RELEASE, AND I (DeVIL303) MADE IT ALL BY MYSELF IN ONE NIGHT, I RELEASED IT UNDER TEAM_ACID NAME BUT IT WAS 100% MY WORK!!

What ps3hen has done is amazing and great news but I dont credit any of that to TeaM-AciD or ps3phews! Also I dont take any credit for it as what I have added is only a few small lines of text. This is down to ps3hen and his efforts to make a 4.00 Hybrid FW! (Best name I can think of for it)

This release is problematic - I never got around to playing Dragon Age Origins. I've got the European Ultimate collection. It's the one with all the DLC included on the disc. Every time I would go into the downloadable content menu in the xmb to install a pkg, it would allow me to install one of the DLC's but when I went back into the menu to install the next DLC, my ps3 would completely freeze and I would have to manually unplug the cord from the back of my system to reset it. I've since restored the original files (this is why you make backups people) and I continued to install the remaining 5 DLC's with no problem. I even went back and installed the ones that caused a system crash and had no problem. This release is a good idea, but it needs work so please be careful with it if you decide to use it

Im hoping to add things like copy function etc too but would like to get feedback and help if anyones game?

      Attachment 32953

Im told this also works fine on most if not all 3.55 based FWs (even on 4.00OFW, probably works on every OFW ever made!) but I havnt tested it on anything except Rebug 3.55.2 CFW, Its been confirmed working on 3.55 kmeaw , OFW, Cobra etc, Worst case senario you would need to reinstall your FW through recovery menu if its not compatible with your FW.

This is a beta version for anyone who might be interested in helping me test it or improve on it. Any Ideas/suggestions on more things to add to it, let me know.

Options available so far in v0.06c
      - Information A link to the release thread for now as a POC idea to have it link to an info page on the web.
      - Life with playstation is a WIP option to allow the filemanager to update itself by downloading its own package to hdd and installing automatically (like F@H)
      - PS Vita Utility is a POC idea for being able to at least delete ps vita gamedata from ps3, for now its a clone of ps3 gamedata, Im waiting until I get my Vita before i look at this again
      - PS3 Filesystem Manager is the main cool addition that allows all drives on the system to be browsed and any files types deleted (dev_flash files cant be deleted unless it is mounted as something else, eg. dev_blind)
      - Rebug Package Manager The other three options are the same as included in Rebugs Package Manager so Ill quote cyberskunk from Rebug.me

Install instructions: It requires you to switch 3 files from dev_flash. heres a quick tut:
      - I use multiman , go to settings near the bottom of menu.
      - select the mount dev_flash to dev_blind option. click enable
      - next go to multiman file manager
      - copy over the 3 files to thier different locations
      - category_game.xml and category_game_tool.xml go in dev_blind/vsh/resource/explore/xmb/
      - explore_plugin_full.rco goes in dev_blind/vsh/resource/
      - next disable dev_blind option in multiman
      - then exit multiman to see your new XMB File Manager

This is perfectly safe and I have even tested deleting most of dev_flash before and its easy reinstall FW through recovery menu so dont worry, just make sure you are on some version of 3.55

Have fun and let me know if you have an ideas on how I could expand it by adding things like copy function etc. Im not the best at this so any help is much appreciated?

Big massive thanks to Cyberskunk and Evilsperm (Team Rebug) for the Package Manager mods which this is based on. And also for Rebug CFW.. its my favourite!
I have a little idea for an addition to your official package manger : Add an "information" link inside it that opens the browser and goes straight to Rebug.me site or your support forum on PS3crunch

Big thanks to PS3hen who has confirmed its still working on OFW4.00, He has built it into his impressive 4.00HFW(Flasher required for 4.00 install unless on 3.55 ).

Big thanks to Bitsbubba for making v0.04 into a pkg file

Please before anyone flames that this is crap I did only start properly making it a week ago so give me a little time and maybe it will become cool. (I discovered the “exploit” that allows this back in 2010 but didnt get around to doing anything with it until now)

If anyone wants to explain an easy way of making this into a pkg file I would be delighted to hear or get some help, Im sure its not very difficult but I havnt time to figure out everything and would like this to become even more of a collaboration if anyones interested?

Heres a bit of a to do list that I would like to add (if these things are actually possible) ,I will update and repost every so often after adding suggestions and bug fixes
      - Adding Copy/rename functions for all filetypes (complicated but hopefully we can)
      - Proper names for all the partitions (easy but will take some time)
      - Proper icons for all the partitions (easy but need to code the above entires first, can use icons already in FW when thats done)
      - A custom icon for XMBFM on XMB (ill leave this up to someone else)
      - Finish off the built in updater and get a direct link set up for the pkg files like sonys.
      - Get the information option linking to a dedicated info page which I need to write and get hosted (or I can also just build in a info page but i like the idea of being able to update it without updating the app)
      - Add a new category for favourite websites so they can have a direct link on the xmb inside the Filemanager.
      - move the PS3 gamedata and save data icons/options inside the file manager to tidy up the Game category.
      - Adding the ability to download unknown filetypes to the internal HDD
      - Move Rebug Package Manager into its own sub category inside XMBFM so its like it was before.

      UPDATES

      - UPDATE 1: Released v0.04 with 2 versions, one for normal retail xmb, and one for rebug/debug xmb.

      - UPDATE 2: It has been confirmed working on all 3.55 based FWs so far such as Kmeaw CFW, Rebug , Cobra etc, No major bugs have been reported so far on any FW.

      - UPDATE 3: ps3hen has confirmed this also works on OFW4.00 and has made a video showing it running (currently only way to install is by building it into a 4.00 pup and updating from 3.55 )

      - UPDATE 4: PS3 scene member Bitsbubba has updated the latest v0.04 to be installed Via package (0.05 i think?)instead of manually, hes also updated it to show in ingame XMB and updated it to show in all languages. GREAT WORK!
Thanks bitsbubba. Now this yours too.Updated Download Link - [Bitsbubbas modded package manager/XMBFM 0.05pkg]

      - UPDATE 5: Released v0.06 - attached below (not in a pkg, manual install for now) Started adding a WIP ps vita manager. changed somethings around. After installing this version you will notice your Remote Play description is updated to look like the latest 4.00 version as ive taken newer messages out of 4.00 rco files , just cosmetic but still, I like it! Also Ive had a very nice idea for the next release .

      - UPDATE 6 : Released a v0.06c category_game.xml (attached below)
      - This update will only show up in the retail menu.
      - Have now added a "Information" link above all the others inside the XMBFM, it opens the browser and links to the release thread!
      - Also added a built in XMBFM updater section that is based on the F@H download section from network xmls, ive now got it so it will download a pkg for me from brewology
      - but it wont install it yet, errors out at start of install , I need a direct pkg link to some signed homebrew to test, anyone??

Sorry it doesnt allow copying yet, Im hoping some real devs will help me with that bit as I know nothing about code. In theory if only the xmls/rcos are modifed to allow copying all filetypes then it would probably work fine on all OFW as these text files are only calling on functions that are already available to them, that is the reason I think this File Manager is so cool and should be developed more, because it will "RUN" on ANY OFW in theory, but I need some help or adding features like copying and renaming etc to all file types is not going to happen! If it does happen it would be a very handy tool for exploiting 4.00+ OFW wouldnt it?? A small example, being able to write the xRegistry.sys file on pc and write it onto console etc
Its possible that the sprx files will need to be modified to allow copying etc, I hope not as then it wont run on 4.00 but if they do Im gonna need to do some serious studying if I want to achieve the whole todo list on my own, any familiar with modding sprx/self files who wants to help please do get involved?

I'm using 3.55.2 Rebug with the .6 update. It's the non-linux version. The problem wasn't limited just to Dragon Age Origins disc. It also happened with Borderlands GOTY when installing the different packages. In both cases it would go into the DLC menu and install the first pkg with no problem. After it goes back to the xmb and you re-enter the DLC menu it would completely lock up the ps3 (even the power button doesn't work). After installing each DLC, I would have to completely turn off my ps3 to install the next one. I'm sure it's just a simple oversight and haven't tested any of the new releases until it's confirmed this problem has been fixed. I like what you did, I just don't trust buggy system files - I've had to restore my system too many times from scratch

ok, thanks, i know what you mean about system files, dont test betas unless you are willing to find bugs . Im afraid you might be waiting a long time for a 1.00 release, this will be beta for a long time and if i dont release it i cant get help testing, v0.06 now so about another 94 updates or more and it might be ready for a RC.

As for restoring from scratch I dont see how this will cause that so dont worry about that with an xml mod, Ive even deleted dev_blind as a test before and all that needed to fix it a new FW install. if you get corrupted dlc files they can easily be deleted with multiman or the built in XMBFM. best to stay out of testing though if your worried about that kind of thing as betas are like that.

I havnt got a load of DLC on disc like that so will need someone else to diagnose that error and see where it does and doesnt occur. I might move the filemanager out of the package manager and keep them seperate so its easier to find and dianose problems.

What we really need more of is people who can find bugs AND fix them like bitsbubba, then repost an improved version so everyone can improve on it some more, hopefully if we can go on like that by the time we get to 1.00 it will have some nice stable features.

@devil303 - I'm far from afraid to beta test something and submit any corrections that I'm able to do especially when I like a project like I do with yours. What makes me afraid of having to start from scratch is when I have to pull the plug to restart the system. A couple times a while back for something unrelated to this (but gave similar problems) I've had to do this and when I turn my PS3 back on, I get a corrupted database error then a corrupted hard drive error which the only option it gives to recover from is formatting the hard drive. No matter what I did, I couldn't access anything on the hard drive to back it up. My concern is not as simple as having to reinstall DLC - it's 1 TB worth of various data. Don't get me wrong - I really do like what you've done, but personally I can't risk a serious system failure like that trying to fix what amounts to a very small bug. It's very likely that it's been fixed in your recent updates because it probably was such a tiny error somewhere. I'm just trying to get someone to confirm it one way or the other who has a test console or one that would be easier to restore than mine

Edit: 75% of that data was found on megaupload/filesonic - We all know it is currently irreplaceable

Ahh yes, I understand now, a few friends have brought consoles to me in the last few months with the corrupt database error and I too had too had to format them (in one of 3 cases i was able to recover) , so I can see why you would be hesitant to try this, hopefully someone with a second ps3 can try to diagnose this.

I might download something that has caused the crash for you and try testing to see if I can reproduce it, its hardly illegal if i dont play it and I delete it straight afterwards lol!

Joking, I dont really care, ill get borderlands GOTY and do some tests and get back to you, it will take me a while to download it though so someone else might confirm the bug is gone or not before then.

Thanks. I'd appreciate it. Just so you know, there are 2 versions of Borderlands GOTY. The one I have included the DLC on the disc and the other one included codes so you can access the DLC from PSN and didn't actually contain the DLC - you had to download them.
