  • Update: Exclusive - Project PNM PS3 NOR Manager Schematics and More Released!

Today, No_One, has released an updated PDF for Project PNM, which contains a wealth of information. Project PNM, one of the more promising projects in the scene, is a piece of hardware which allow users to run a dual firmware setup via dual NOR flashes, as well as several other things. The document explains how PNM works from a hardware point of view. In addition, it provides all of the necessary information needed for users to build their own PNM hardware. The document contains detailed schematics, diagrams, explanations, and a list of materials needed. Furthermore, in an attempt to get this hardware into as many hands as possible, it was revealed that a cheaper version of the hardware is currently being designed and will be released in the near future. Please note, the PDF document is highly technical. It is recommended that only skilled hardware experts should try their hand at building a PNM circuit.

For those of you unfamiliar with the PNM Project, please see our previous articles here and here

    Hi mates,
Here is the PDF documentation that explains how PNM works from an hardware point of view :
    - schematics,
    - explanations,
    - bill of materials (BOM),
    - diagrams.

    Coming soon :
    - A virtual SOCKET #3 to access (Read/Write) the PS3 NOR (on motherboard itself)
It will give the ability to manage what others flashers around do without removing the embedded NOR.
    - Realtime tests on a PS3 in differents situations :
    * Static switching between 2 firmwares,
    * Dynamic switching....

Tasks finished these last 2 days :
    - serial link has been enhanced (speed) to 1Mbit/s,
    - virtual SOCKET #3 instanciated in the FPGA,
    - Teraterm macros to help managing DUMP/UPDATE (not yet fully functionnal),
    - automatic detection of the firmware flashed,
    - some minor software updates...

See ya very soon for more progress !

    Cheers

    Update:

    Let me give some clarifications.

    To make simple:
    - private keys are used to decrypt (and sign) files needed to build a firmware.
    - public keys are used to decrypt files like "EBOOT.BIN", SELF/SPRX files and so on.

If a new exploit is found to obtain privates keys then CFW will appear again.

Even if PNM project only aims to manage a TRUE dual firmware console, it may lead to public keys.
    I won't explain it how.

    What does that mean ?
It means devs will probably include public keys (ie 3.70) in a 3.55 CFW (like it has been done for 3.56 keys).
But i would like to underline that there some tricks that could be used by SONY to prevent such methods.
    I won't explain them here.

Now, concerning the NOR flash. It only embeds a part of the firmware.
The other part is stored in the internal HDD.
To manage a TRUE dual firmware, it will be necessary to have both these parts (ie 3.41 HDD + 3.70 HDD).
I won't talk about the SYSCON in this post since most people reading won't understand what it is.
The lame method will consist to swap HDD.
But good news, there are some identified tricks to keep everything in only ONE HDD :-)

Again, to make things clear: PNM is NOT a project to promote piracy !
The main goal is to have a 3.41/3.55 CFW with Linux/homebrews and an OFW to continue enjoying last games, PSN...
But like any "weapon", PNM can be used for nice perspectives but also in "bad hands" for obscure aims.

    Cheers

I cant wait to see where this bring us. I think that is one reason sony has jumped to 3.70 already. there must have been able to access the keys that everyone has been waiting for i dont care as long as my ps3 will be all hacked up in the next year

      3.66 keys won't bring 3.66 CFW

To the other guy who said just buy another PS3: Not everyone can afford another PS3.

Just a question(and keep in mind that I don't know much about the XBOX360(nor do I own one) but I read somewhere that after the XBOX360 got hacked (jtagged or something) Microsoft (and Nintendo) gave up and doesn't do whatever their version of a OFW update is. With that being said(and if it's true)why does Sony insist on doing OFW updates? Why don't they just give up and tell us about PS4? I know some people have said that the developers of games would stop making games or something to that effect if Sony didn't do things like the OFWs but if what I typed about the 360 is true, that hasn't stopped them from making games for that system. Could someone shed some light on if the information I just typed is true and maybe answer some of these questions please. AND **** SPAZKID FOR HIS COMMENT ON THE DEVS, I APPRECIATE EVERYTHING THEY HAVE AND WILL DO FOR ALL OF US. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK FOR US LESSER INTELLECTUALS.

I think what he is trying to say is that 3.6x keys won't bring 3.66 custom firmware. I had to read it a few times myself before I could comprehend it.
