  • [UPDATE#4] Rogero CEX-4.21 CFW & LV0 Keys Released

Update #4 Rogero has released version 1.09 of his 4.21 CFW. please check the MD5 before installing you can do so with this App. LINK. See below under UPDATE #4 for all the download links and information from upgrading to V1.00 to 1.09 .

This update has fixed many of the bricking issues in the previous v1.00 release. As with any CFW installation do your research if you are someone without a hardware flasher. Also be sure to checkout Rogero official release thread @ tortuga-cove before installing to make sure no information posted below has changed in update #4.

PS3 Developer Rogero known for his other CFW (such as no-check Downgradable FWs) & Backup Manager. Has made use of the recent lv0 keys that have been leaked an released. Soon after Bluedisk CFW was cracked the lv0 keys for 4.21 were leaked in the wild. So that paved the way for new CFW.

Rogero CFW can only be installed on a PS3 running 3.55

    v1.00 changes
    • This is a 4.21CFW spoofed to version 4.25 to allow SEN access

    • It can be used as a normal System Update from any 3.55 OFW/CFW/MFW

    • It was tested using a hardware flasher and no bricks or any problems at all were encountered

    • It can run games signed with Keys up to version 4.21 without any Eboot/Sprx patching needed

    • Games must be loaded from Disc Icon (with Original game in BD) and not from app_home

    • Current 3.55 homebrew application can't be loaded on this CFW, applications must be re-signed properly.

    • Downgrading back to 3.55 is always possible using hardware flashers and will be tested soon using software methods.

    UPDATE #1
    (New/Updated Info in Blue)
    Source: Tortuga-Cove

    ATTENTION:

1- This CFW doesn't have LV1 checks disabled and can't be installed on Downgraded PS3 consoles unless you have Dehashed/Reset Syscon Properly (if you're not sure about your PS3, Dehash it anyway to avoid any risk) Link ----> Dehashing Tutorial

2- Always make a NOR/Nand dump using multiMAN or memdump before installing this CFW to have a recovery backup in case of any bricks.Having a valid NOR/Nand dump is an essential step before upgrading, because you will always have a way to recover (using hardware flashers) when you have a valid dump.
** A Hardware Flasher alone without a valid dump cannot fix your bricked PS3 **

3- It's always better to have QA flag set (leave it Enabled) on your PS3 for safer upgrading/downgrading operations. Link ----> toggle_qa.pkg

4- Always use the Recovery Menu while installing this CFW to avoid possible bricks (XMB update works, but Recovery Menu is safer).

5- TrueBlue CFW users must update back to OFW3.55 before installing this CFW to avoid possible bricks.

**Credits to eussNL and the PS3DevWiki for the valuable and always up-to-date source of information.
**Credits to Deank for his continuous efforts on Multiman and many other PS3 tools/fixes.
    Update #2
    Source: Tortuga-Cove

Downgrading back to 3.55 is always possible using the following steps :

    • Download the 4.25 downgrader PUP ---> 4.25 Downgrader Size 176MB (184,595,263 bytes) MD5: 49d80e07fc1f5ca1b0840e02e94635db

    • Rename the downloaded file to "PS3UPDAT.PUP" and put it on your USB in: "USB\PS3\UPDATE\PS3UPDAT.PUP"

    • While on Rogero CFW4.21, go to System Update from XMB and install the 4.25 downgrader CFW.

    • Start the PS3 into Recovery Menu (or use Condor Updater for Slim consoles) and install "Rogero CEX-3.55 CFW V3.7" (from Recovery Menu, this is important)

    • Once the install is finished, you're now back on Rogero CFW3.55 v3.7 ( from here it's better to dehash again before installing any other OFW/CFW 3.55 )
    Update #3
    Source: Tortuga-Cove

After Testing with some bricked Slim consoles ( from updating to CFW4.21 ) with different friends and testers around the world,
I can confirm that Bricked consoles can be recovered back to CFW3.55 even if you didn't have a NOR Dump/Backup .

    Requirements are:
1- a Hardware Flasher so you can read/write to the PS3 NOR flash
2- A Dongle with PSgrade payload (any old jailbreak dongle + PSGrade hex will do) used to Enter Factory Service Mode (FSM)
    3- Rogero CEX3.55 v3.7 PUP

for more details about Recovering from the Brick please check this new thread ----> Brick-Recovery Procedure from CFW4.21 back to CFW3.55

    Note:
    - I didn't receive any Brick report from any FAT PS3 that updated to CFW4.21, so it seems FAT consoles are not being affected by the bug.

    - Apparently only the last downgradable Slim models are affected (CECH-25xx with Datecode 1A and base FW version = 3.50)

    - I Also know that there are also few Slims that bricked with model CECH-20xx but 90% of the reports were model
(CECH-25xx with Datecode 1A and base FW version = 3.50).

    - The Brick may be caused by the boot-loaders not being written correctly into the NOR during the Update process.

Please note also that all the above info may not be 100% accurate,
things are still being worked on so nothing is confirmed at all and I don't promise anything about an updated CFW.

    v1.09 Details and Changes

    - Compatibility problem with some Slim models (CECH-25xx) is now fully fixed.

Updating from CFW4.21 v1.00 to the CFW4.21 v1.09 should be done using the following steps :

---- Downgrade back to ver3.55 using the guide above.
---- Once on Rogero CEX3.55 v3.7 you can update again from Recovery Menu into the new CFW4.21 v1.09

    2- Alternative Way ( CFW4.21 v1.00 --> Recovery Menu --> CFW4.21 v1.09 )
---- You can try updating from CFW4.21 v1.00 to CFW4.21 v1.09 from Recovery Mode first.
    ---- If it didn't work, then you'll have to use the first Proper Way ( CFW4.21 v1.00 --> CFW3.55 --> CFW4.21 v1.09 )

Someone should update this topic or make a new one about the Rogero CFW CEX-4.21 v1.09 - release so people don't install the 1.00 any longer.

Don't know about Cobra but I went from Kmeaw 3.55 to Rogero 4.21 1.09 and I updated through factory service menu and it was flawless.

Well some of us have to work all day . And besides you could always post something in the private area and we could front page it from there. Don't let our busy schedules stop you

I put up a short update. I didn't want to go into any detail for reasons that some of you know.

Actually I think he and I were editing at the same time. I think we were overwriting each other. I'll let him do his thing

      Rogero CFW 4.21 V9..

¨- Games can be loaded from Disc Icon (with Original game in BD) and from app_home (Disc-less, but not all games).¨

When I say my BDdrive is dead, It means that I can only run games from app_home
and that means that I wont be able to run some games, because many games need to have
a disc inside the ps3 to run, The CEX bd emu is imperfect and cannot run some games without a disc inside,
the sony BDEMU on Dex consoles is PERFECT.. and It can run all games without disc..
thats why staying on dex is smarter.. at least for me..

But If there will be a perfect BDEMU for cex consoles, then I will change my console to Cex and install
      Rogero 4.21 CEX CFW

by the way... I am still on 3.55 (DEX).. so I can run backups, I just need to be on DEX because of its BDEMU function, In order to run all my games from disc icon.. (I just need ONE ps3 image loaded with DEX BDEMU, then i go to multiman and run any of my games , and load them from disc icon, not app_home)

If Cex cfw 4.21 came,.. Dex cfw 4.21 is possible too I guess :P
