PSX-Scene member Shaitan has shared with everyone an easy way to change between CFWs, OFWs, and MFWs on your Jailbroken PS3 consoles; a new way that does not require a USB device in order to install the firmware of your choice. I will let him explain the rest.

Hi guys, I'm always looking for ways to make my PS3 experience easier so this was an awesome find. It's nothing special but I'm constantly needing to change firmwares like many of you with otheros++, True Blue and/or Cobra so I thought I'd share it. Please note that this doesn't work on firmwares above 3.55, this is simply a faster and easier way to use update files of the same firmware level.

Updates take only 3 minutes with this!It's a one click install - period. All the prompts are completely removed, including the license agreement, update details, and confirmation prompt. The PS3 bypasses even the version.txt readout, using only the filename you manually inputted for display.

To do this you MUST install QA Flag Extra, just using Rebug's debug menu will not work 100% in some cases

Enable QA Flag Extra and go to the debug settings and enable "System Update Debug"
Use Multiman's file manager(or other) and create a folder in /dev_hdd0 called "updater", so it's /dev_hdd0/updater/
Create folders in that directory for the firmwares called 01, 02, 03, ect.(Dont miss a number or it will error).
Copy whichever PS3UPDAT.PUP into one of those folders and........
Rename it to whatever you want, you dont even need the .PUP at the end.
Go to System Update then Update via Hard Disk and it should look something like this:

Some people with Launch 60gb and 20gb models are reporting that this method gives them a "highest firmware version is already installed" message, if you have one of these models and it does/doesn't work please let us know to help make the tutorial complete.

I dont want to sound like a dick or anything but why would someone want to swap firmwares like that I mean what is the purpose if you cant swap official to this? The only think I can think is people with a TB dongle and want to go back to Kamew for some of their other games.

@yszon, What the heck are you asking. Are you saying that you DO NOT have the Cobra or the TB, but you would like files for your PS3 to make it seems as though you did. Not going to happen... Cobra and TB stuff only works with the official dongles.

@Darkman-PSG. Precisely, for people who own mulitple dongles, like PS3usercheat, Cobra-USB, and True Blue... who want to still be able to use other CFWs for their other needs.

I never got around to QA Flagging. I've seen various posts about it but they're either without a guide or from sketchy looking sites. Could someone point me to a working download

P.S. @Shaitan - looks like it's gonna be close on the contest this month. Took me almost a month to get that many votes and you did it in a day. Congrats on that

Thanks bitsbubba. I thought that was only a reset tool if you had errors. I'll check it out

Edit: http://rebug.me is down for maintenance. Been stuck at 55% since at least yesterday

Edit 2: Just got it working - very nice indeed. might get around to ordering a couple dongles. I didn't want to deal with the hassle of swapping firmwares. Thanks Shaitan + bitsbubba

Thanks you so much to all those involved in this hack as it just saved me from potentially killing my PS3 installing a flasher and dual boot setup just so I could swap between dongles easily. This is the best thing since sliced bread!!

is there not a possibility of causing damage and creating bad sectors in the flash like what has been known to happen on the psp?

@FrednIRC - Generally it's safe, but there are some random issues depending on the console but you are supposed to be able to flash it thousands of times without any problem. look here for more info. It's a little on the technical side but has better numbers than I can give you

I posted on another forum under the name polki000 about saving updates using QA flag a few months ago a few days after first using the QA Flag, that option is easy to find and probably well known. This method allows you to store as many updates as you want and rename them aswell. not just a few 3.55's and a few 3.55.2's.

people say it's not necessary, but I always do just to be safe and make sure everything is replaced correctly. It only takes another 5-10 minutes and even less with this mod. I'd rather take the precaution then spend the several hours restoring my system if something does go wrong but it's a personal judgement call

this is great, one question guys, if you come from E3 flashed with Rogero V2- Spoof4.00 and like to test another CFW, whats the best way, anyone have the correct steps?, i'm a afraid of screwing it up but like to test Rebug etc..

there's 2 QA tools, QA_tool.pkg and QA_extra.pkg, what should be used on rogero, and update in Recovery or Normal mode?

Ok is it me but where is System Update then Update via Hard Disk, I only have 2 options Update via Internet or Update Via USB

I had the same problem at first. You need to run rebug's qa reset tool Codename: REBUG until it shows up and I'm pretty sure you have to be in debug mode and set the option in the debug menu for the debug updates. I had to run the reset tool twice to get it to show up, but once you do get it to show, you don't have to mess with it anymore.

Yeah, I've been watching it too. every time either one of us gets a vote or two, the other will move up too but you caught up real quick for a late entry. It's close and there's still a little over a day to go so we'll have to see what happens. I'm not gonna lie and say I don't wanna win, but if I lose at least it's to a good project. Good luck
