  • True Blue's Warning to Clone Users - Internal HDD Will be Erased!

Well, we were all expecting something like this after JB-King released their 2.5 firmware patch. Today, the True Blue team have made an announcement on there website regarding clones of their devices, and the users that use them. Apparently, there is already an anti-clone technology in the TB firmware, which when it detects a clone will produce one of several random effects to your PS3. One such effect could be the erasing of your internal HDD. They have also announced they are working on developing and deploying more anti-clone features shortly.

A warning to those considering or having already purchased a True Blue clone: we have previously implemented special anti-clone technology in the True Blue firmware which accurately detects clones and when such a clone is detected, will activate one of several effects at random intervals, such as erasing the internal PS3 HDD. The recent JBKing 2.5 software update is especially affected by these measures; anyone using this clone will be subject to data loss as a result of random HDD erasure as well as other effects. Other anti-clone measures are now being developed and will be deployed shortly.

Clones of True Blue will be blocked and future EBOOT's will not function with such devices. It is therefore important that users, in the interests of enjoyment and to avoid wasting money on trivially detectable clones, should purchase only original True Blue devices.
Again, if you would like to discuss the moral ramifications of this device, please do so here at the TrueBlue and Team PARADOX debate thread

    Official Site: True Blue

Keep in mind, we here have yet to see any confirmed reports of anything like this happening while using JB-King. It could be a rumor, it could be true; at least you have been warned.

This is just one of the random effects that can happen when you use a clone on the (soon to be released TB FW v3?) system, others have yet to be announced which could be less or more drastic.

I think this should really only concern the cloners, as they are the ones who are doing the testing to see if they can get the latest EBOOT patches working before they release a fix to their paying customer, customers who are buying an imitation/knock-off.

As I stated in my article, right now this is all speculation, but the real question here is why are they going to such lengths to prevent people from tampering with there device? Are there secrets finally close to being unlocked? Are the cloners on to something?

And by the way, the cloners are no help to the problem of reversing the TB and PARADOX patch method. If anything, they are just creating a larger gap. I could be wrong about this, but that is my opinion.

The bottom line is: If you are a TB supporter, you have nothing to worry about. If you purchased a clone, you get what you paid for.

I was thinking of getting a true blue, but after seeing this, I have decided against It. I have a cobra usb and it works awesome. After TB comments, I just don't trust putting a firmware with a trojan on my ps3, Congratulations on scaring away legit customers.

I have said from the start that I would never support purchasing these types of devices, but this is the icing on the cake.

One of the TB supporters in this thread mentioned that this is what happens when you make good hackers mad....

Well, hopefully this is the line that needed to be crossed to get good hackers finally taking the time to reverse this device and getting rid of ridiculous dongles. I thought it would have happened ages ago.

instead of them spending much time and effort deploying anti-clone technology, would be very useful for them to work in CFW that does not require the use of the dongle.

They found his ip signing up for psn. I won't get into the arguments made about it being a friend and such but I'm pretty sure that you do not own your ps3.

If you purchased legally your ps3, you own it. No ifs or buts.
I have read the SONY PS3's EULA, and its pretty bad ofc, forbiding homebrew and the like. But nowhere it says you don't own it.
Ofc, if you are fool enough to play in that piece of s*** called PSN, then they may say they own everything you put in their servers, they can do whatever they want with your private informations (including selling it to "affiliated thrid parties", lol), etc, but that doesn't mean you don't own your own hardware, even if you login in their network.

About the hardware, yes indeed, but when it comes to the software there are definitely ifs and buts. Not just the software that is on the PS3, but pretty much all software in general. That has been the issue about the hacking, the software part. The hardware part isnt that much relevant.

They cant do whatever they want with your information if you dont give them permission to do it. Well, technically they can do it of course, but it might not be legal (talking general about information then, not specifically about PSN).

Yes, i agree that you don't own almost all comercial software you use. But modded PS2, glitched xbox360, pretty much all hacked consoles (except ps3 ofc), disagree with the notion that hacks only happens in software level.

That is one of the issues with the PSN. In order to login you must agree with their Terms of Services who says that they can share your info with affiliated third parties.

Sooo, this seems to be how this works. Sony makes games, encrypts them and sells them. True Blue steals debug eboots from Sony which are unencrypted, then encrypts them to work only in combination with True Blues DRM. Other companies copy True Blues DRM and sells them at a cheaper price. True Blue is outraged that someone is cutting into their illegal market and threatens users of this other product with catastrophic data loss.

Any way you look at it, that is extortion. There is zero moral justification for this. True Blues producers are selling access to stolen goods, then crying foul when someone copies their crowbar.

I have heard of a user reporting he was using the JB-King 2.5, and his internal HDD was reformatted. In other words, it might be more than just a scare tactic, but infact a proper warning to users about what is already in place in their CFW.

This is pretty pathetic. Their shitty DRM dongle gets cloned because they failed to protect it well enough so now they attack consumers because they have no way of targeting the cloners themselves.

I'm betting this is their way of getting people to buy a "TB2" which will likely follow soon. How else can you be sure you won't get your HDD wiped? I'm sure there are a fair number of people who believe they have a genuine TB that have a clone. Who's going to want to take a chance shelling out $60 for a TB if they can't be sure it's original? The answer would be "buy TB2", it's the only way you can be sure.

      TB = ****tards

Well, if they offer support for both dongle, that could be okay. If they do like PS3Break 1.2 did and only have certain things that work on the latest dongle, then that does not sound fair. I mean, why would they need to?

the TB fakes can only have 2.3/2.4 update (as JB2USB) so I'm sure they would know from the get go (won't work on TB CFWv2)

Piracy is killing game development, I can say so because I am a developer myself.
Beware pirates the day will come when you will be sitting with your d*** in your console with no games to play.
False. Sony and M$ will do this themselves when they stop used games on their next systems. Lack of vision and creativity are killing game development.
These True Blue pirates are a joke. I just have to laugh at all the fools who support them by buying their product.

When are we going to get that joke Jay-Jay? Is it good?

      Laugh now, cry later... right?

But yeah, you know what messes everything up, including the game industry, the money.

I can see TB wanting to protect their and PARADOX's work. They do not have to release EBOOT patches, but they do. Why support the other guys, when TB/PARADOX is doing the work. I think if these other guys were actually releasing EBOOTS, perhaps they would not be such a concern to the TB, as it could actually help the market, instead of inflate it with more useless dongles.

If you have been around the scene as long as I have, then you already have a pretty decent dongle collection.
