Actually I think this new information source is legit and news worthy to be presented this week. Since it explains how this developer created a modified trueblue custom firmware so he can exploit the code he needs when the dongle is inserted into the PS3. Plus more details where this payload is at in the PS3 console when the TB dongle/Cobra USB is connected.

I just verified the other news back in November http://psx-scene.com/forums/content/...released-1664/ -- and it talks about something completely different. And a whole different payload source.

Now if you want to debate whether all this information will aide us all, it's still up for speculation, because of previous points presented by others (including myself) above.

So please guys, don't be too hasty in bashing the news writers of any forum, until you make sure your statements are solid--or as they say, don't kill the messenger. Now who looks like the one sitting in a corner of the class wearing a dunce cap? (humor/joke)

It's not necessarily that it's old news. It's that it isn't anything that wasn't already wikied in November. This news is just a copy of the original posting... so any discussion about whether it's news worthy isn't a bash at the poster here--- it's a discussion about the merits of the OP.

Now, I have already detailed why the news isn't necessarily credible and the warnings I gave are real with respect to the risk of bricking their dongles by willy nilly adding peek and poke to either of the dongles' Firmware.

As for Dunce caps, well, just never you mind that.

U can unbrick dongles but you need hardware, Unsolder 8 pin PIC on TB and put into SPI flasher and reflash with 2meg original update(hard to find). Resolder 8pin PIC back into TB and put in PS3 update to 2.4 and your golden.

Like Future said. If this goes on TB team will either release a new drm or they will say "oh hay since they figured this out and now don't need our dongle...wtf is the point in fixes games for THOSE people anymore?" Then we'd be screwed for sure if that's their attitude. You would think they'd be happy that someone figured this out because even with them they wouldn't need the annoying dongle anymore either in this case. So ultimately what is the real problem? lol I see this as a good thing if it's "real" :P

TB should just figure out a way to charge for the games/fixes for 3.55 and 3.41 cfw without the use of the dongle. They would have a lot more customers. I would gladly get back into the ps3 scene if this were possible.

Then you should be able to use a peek&poke enabled MFW to grab a dump without loosing the dongle... hell you can even put a switch...

Plus analyzing a previous revision should be even easyer since TB team supposedly "improved security" on the dongle later on as the changelog states:

Assuming the True Blue's Actel chip can not be hacked or reverse engineered, and this payload info is useless... unless...
One possible solution to bypass their DRM protection...
True Blue IKS, Internet Key Sharing server: Set up a hacked TB CFW that sends the security request to a servers IP address instead of the USB port. That server is set up connected to a real TB Dongle. The server would reply back with the correct auth response from the connected dongle and the TB software runs as if there was a TB in the USB port.

I looked at that a while ago, you can't just connect /WP to ground because you will create a short and possibly blow something else up because they have it tied high. It's not that easy.
