    Recently, a PS2 emulator hack allowed for 4:3 games to be played widescreen. PSX-SCENE member reprep has put together a way for people to use this trick on their actual PS2 consoles. Using a Codebreaker cheat system, games that previously were only playable in 4:3 are now playable in 16:9, and there will be more to come, just take a look at the forum thread to see what advances have already been make in just a few short days.

      Twasome! Any chance for a HDL method? I know there has to be some people with PS2's 'round these parts.

      Heck yea there is I still rock my PS2 probably more often then my PS3. Nice job and keep up the great work as any Playstation news is great even on the PS1 IMO.

      I still play on the ps2 at times too, my 5 yr old son currently has it in his bedroom so i sometimes play NFS underground 2 with him, although I must admit he would rather play toy story 3 on my ps3 lmao (going off topic a little now but toy story 3 is actually an awesome kids game; I suggest people try it if they haven't haha)

      Any Cheat Device will work, if I am right that topic lists RAW Codes, so you can convert them to the Cheat Device you like to use

      How is this different from using a stretch/full/etc option on your widescreen TV or monitor?

      is there a way to force ps2 games in 480P? especially pal games that lack this feature.

      Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. I've been playing PS2 games in widescreen for years with my tv's 'stretch' setting.

      In short, it's true widescreen. For example the in game objects will have the same proportions as if you were using the pillarboxed 4:3 setting on the TV, and you will see more of the 3D environment on either side.

      I'm not sure how it's been done here but when this is implemented into emulators it normally modifies the Projection Matrix, which basically defines the dimensions of the 3D view. If this is a real hardware implementation of the same technique then it's a serious achievement!

      I enjoy 480p already with x-ploder and gsm from dvd games thru original sony component cable(the best by far).

      Now if we can find a way to enjoy both features while using HDL or USBADVANCE/OPL, then PS2 will reborn all around the world.
      Anyway, playing from dvds is good (but new chinese ps2 lens are crap)

      This is psX scene, not ps3 scene. The truth is, the PS2 never stopped being hacked, and is still a very popular topic here.

      I switched to emulation so I could play games at 1080p. Good to see that advances are being made since I can't play Lifeline in the emulator.

      Just to let you know those codes are based on emulator to begin with the tools and some of the codes come from what was found by using cheat in pcsx2
