hopefully they dont abandon the 4.3 cfw, i was looking forward to not having a disc in and being able to play psone off usb without having to switch firmwares all the time.

I have faith in team cobra (as far as I know, they are still the only group to enable ps2 and psp iso play, right?). I really want to see where this goes.

That said, I also hope they don't abandon 4.3cfw. I'm still on 3.55 cause I am patiently waiting.

i'm already using the rogero cfw 4.30 v2.03 and it works flawlessly, i don't think that an ode will help too much now.

You will probably have to pay for this, and considering we have the latest CFW possible with Rogero, not very interesting.

With the latest cfw being stable and the lv0 cracked which means most probably further OFWs will have their respective CFWs, I can already play games without patching. Why would I need an ODE when a CFW is already available?

It might work for the 4.21 ofw+ users. Thats a big deal in my book. But Rogero 4.30 is what im on and love it. I have 2 big issues though. Cant play 2 games that i really want to try. I have never been able to get LA Noire or Red Dead Redemption to work. Not even when i was on 3.55. I hear those games are good. Please help.

much lower chance of being banned from PSN, don't have to keep installing new CFWs. i would take an ODE over CFW any day of the week-- it's a much cleaner solution to defeating the DRM. on the down side, if you're penny-pinching then stick with CFW.

getting the drive key is the only thing that requires 3.55 CFW, so if cobra produces a way to get the drive key from consoles shipped on 3.6+ then you will be able to use cobra's key extraction method with 3key's ODE. i suppose there are ways for cobra to get around this, but i'm not holding my breath for key extraction on 3.6+ consoles.

lets accept that PS3 is almost died. $ony is no more worry about Ps3 security, like whats happened with PSP. She is most occupied to make her new console.....

Even with an ODE i guess we have to keep installing their updates afterall, even though it reduces the risk of CFW based PSN bans, it still has to have updates/spoofs for the latest OFWs? And now with the direct updates possible I'd update the CFW rather than updating the ODE.
Most of us, obviously including me had the TrueBlue before the Eboot fixes. Its not about being penny-pinching, but as mentioned above, who would want to pay when its already free?
I really don't think they could come up with a way to work with OFWs afterall how can we install the Emulator in an OFW?

I actually like the 3k3y teams idea. They have a unique way of dumping the disk. My bluray drive is beyond dead to the world. I can't wait for more details. It's always cool having more than 1 option.

With the introduction of new hardware in a scene that for the most part has been based on free software one should expect some backlash, but what these ODE devices offer cannot be done for free and even if you made your own it would cost money. There is a very large difference on how CFW and ODE play backups and even though the end result might be similar the methods of achieving this greatly differs. If Cobra's ODE can be installed on any OFW then this would open up a gigantic market and an influx of new PS3 modders. If it relies on CFW like the 3KEY then it's doomed to only support the currently shrinking market.

for those ODE drive solutions to work you need to be able to downgrade your console to 3.55CFW for extracting the necessary keys - that's clearly stated on 3key web-site, that means if you're on 3.6+ OFW such solution is pointless, because if you can downgrade to 3.55CFW then you will just use the new CFWs, i.e. why buy both hardware flasher and ODE, when hardware flasher would be sufficient. also, that means ODE is useless for all PS3 units that can be downgraded to 3.55CFW, i.e. that are all PS3 units manufactured in the last 2 years. so, if you ask me the security of PS3 is still very good - in case you don't have an old console that is possible to be downgraded to 3.55CFW.

Well they can create hardware device which you will need to solder to some points and you will extract key on any firmware--like it is done on xbox---so here i think wont be a problem.

The main thing is what is better CFW or ODE?

I think they can not exist simultaneously ---must be only one thing.

I talked to devs on IRC---and they told me 3k3y sucks.
So I do not know why they said it--maybe they like when ps3 has more freedom with homebrews.

Anyway---customer will vote with its own money what they want to have in ps3.

Indeed the keys are needed and the method 3K3Y has supposedly implemented is extracting them via CFW as it removes software limitations on reading them present in OFW. However, the keys do not need to be extracted by CFW and can be extracted by a "probing" device (hardware). Due to the lack of information from Team Cobra about their ODE we are not sure if it requires CFW or if they have indeed created a hardware device capable of reading the keys on OFW. If they haven't then they aren't going to sell much as there are only mere thousands of CFW users compared to the millions of PS3 OFW users. 3K3Y also stated they are trying to figure out a method for key extraction on OFW, but it as of what we've been told it won't be shipping with this ability.
