  • A Tale Of Two Thousand Bricks (And Counting)

Okay, so maybe I'm exaggerating that number but I can speak from personal experience. My CECH-2001A PS3 is among the unlucky bricks after installing one of the new CFW's by BlueDisk or Rogero. It seems that it does not matter what model you have. Right now it's a crap shoot on whether or not you will be among the unlucky paper weight owners.

I've been seeing countless reports of bricks using these new firmwares. Rogero has stated that he is working on an updated version that is safer but nothing is 100% foolproof so take this warning to heart.

IF YOU DO NOT OWN A HARDWARE FLASHER DO NOT INSTALL ANY NEW CFW UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE

      sooo glad me waited

at least flashers exist nowadays, bricks really did mean "bricks" in the old days.

yea i know i suks that your ps3 gets bricked or stop working, tho, what i said was just a joke, i was actually one of the few people that survived the wakinonov1 brick wave with my phat ps3, but sadly, that ps3 got killed by a yellow light of dead, R.I.P. kool ps3

i dont know if it is just me, or there is no really good reason to update to 4.21 CFW yet. I was just going trough a list of games that are still unplayable on the current 3.55 CFW, and that list is very small, and besides, there are not so many great titles that make the upgrade necessary in the short term. what about you guys?

Most of the folks that bricked with these new CFW would brick too if they wanted to go back to OFW. It's because they never bothered with re-hashing their syscon chip and kept using firmware with patched syscon hashes check in lv1.

These bricks are recoverable so any moaning regarding it achieves nothing.

has nayone had any success upgrading to the new 4.21 CFW from TrueBlue CFW? I know that if you go directly from TBCFW to RoCFW you will get a brick, but what happens if you go to 3.55 kmeaw or 3.55OFW, and the to 4.21CFW??

Could it be some part of the firmware (region) causing the bricks...

I only say this because I have a Chinese PS3 and modified the firmware to swap the X and O buttons back to normal... and this change seems to survive a firmware update... even on official firmware. So this change is permanent unless you edit it again.

Is there any way of doing a full reset of the firmware?

      I went from TB CFW v2 > 3.55 OFW > 4.21 CFW successfully on my CECHC03.

yes every time i used recovery mode
Definitely, this is a SAFER path Although the SAFEST path is ****PATIENCE****!!!

Please ***WAIT**** until ALL issues are ironed by the devs!!!

      For the impatients:
*** BE AWARE *** that you can end with a nice black paperweight (A PS3 BRICK)
If you still decide to install this CFW (from 3.55 CFW CEX):
      1. First install a CFW QA Flag capable (eg. 3.55 CEX Rogero 3.7 or 3.55.2 Rebug)
      2. Download & install QA Toggle from Rebug.me -> run it to apply QA Flag -> confirm it's QA Flagged (press R1+L1+R2+L2+L3+Down on Settings > Network Settings icon)
      3. Install 3.55 Kmeaw from Recovery (use CondorStrike Updater for easier access)
      4. Then change your mind and stay there!!!! Yes, stay in 3.55 KMEAW and WAIT few days!!!! (you won't regret!!)
      5. If you still decide to install this 4.21CFW, go to Recovery install it.

Rogero has done a great job... however, the CFW still needs more tests (there are many untested conditions that could cause a brick)

Thanks to all the beta testers out there who are making it safe to upgrade for the rest of us.
I always wait before upgrading firmwares because unlike a select few, I do not have a hardware flasher and don't want to invest in one if I don't have to.

Yes you can fix it with your E3 flasher. If I'm not mistaken I think you follow the normal downgrade/factory service mode procedure. There's info on the E3 site in the downloads section. Grab the full download and all the info you need is in there

i will have a Progskeet and E3 flasher shortly and will be offering unbricking services to uk based memebrs if they need help
Just wondering how do you unbrick other people PS3? Don't you need the other person nand/nor dump of their PS3 before it got bricked?

I agree with waiting, it seems that it cannot hurt to wait and not only that, I do not feel compelled to even upgrade, heck I am still on 3.41 and am able to play all the games that I own, even the ones that are 3.60+ that I own like FFXIII and FFXIII-2. So why try fixing something that is already working for you and does everything you need.

If it ain't broken, don't fix it.

I did two slims and 1 fat without issues

They all had rebug 3.55.7 installed

I put them into recovery mode and went to update via usb

      no issues.

      only tested rogero 4.21 v1.00.

if you have the balls to load it on, i suggest you do it that way as it has worked for me!

my slims were born with 3.50

the fat was born with (no idea)

very glad I had good luck with this, im sorry for the people who didnt.
