  • Successful Downgrade from v3.70 via ProgSkeet - Tutorial Coming Soon

Have you recently updated to 3.70 firmware and have been regretting that decision? Those regrets will soon a be a thing of the past with the recent announcement from an Italian dev group. The group, known as DiGiTaLAnGeL announced that they have successfully downgraded a 3.70 slim PS3 console to 3.55. To accomplish the process the group utilized a ProgSkeet chip, which is a recently released universal NAND/NOR Flash programmer. In addition, the group utilized patched files from dospiedra, a famous Spanish coder. The downgrade method is still being held under wraps, but will be revealed soon, in full detail. In the meantime, users may want to prepare by purchasing and installing a ProgSkeet chip, as they are sure to start flying off retailers shelves.

For the first time, we have been involved in something truly spectacular

We were the first in the world to test the downgrade from 3.70 to 3:55 on a PS3 Slim (With flash memory, " NOR ") using the ProgSkeet and patched some files provided by dospiedra, a famous Spanish coder already discovered on the crest of the wave for the method of going back to 3:55 / 3:41 with the PS3 (FAT flash memory "NAND").

After several attempts, in collaboration with dospiedra, we got to go back from 3.70 to 3:55, enter the factory mode with a simple key to jailbreak, rifleshare a modified version of 3:55 to prevent the SYSCON (the registry in between downgrades) was consulted during the downgrade and now we are happily at 3:55 KMEAW!

With this version of moddata 3:55, you can perform a memory dump today and you can switch on the fly from 3:55 to 3.70 without having to make all this long procedure times: progskeet using it you can go straight to 3.70 changed to 3:55!

Dospiedra said it will release details on the patches applied to the NOR and the update file as soon as possible.

New life for those who arrived too late to enjoy the benefits of the 3:55?

DiGiTaLAnGeL makes this announcement, regarding "3.55 to 3.70(or higher) and viceversa":

Yes they have, they just didn't see the need to announce it as "news", since hardware downgrading has been possible since forever.

But with a nice tutorial, and not only that, they are saying we can bounce back between 3.55 and 3.70 with ease

As someone who has never seen the inside of a DVD player (never mind a PS3), how difficult is this going to be? Give me a F-A-C-E-P-A-L-M what does that spell? LOUDER!

well, I think that the downgrade procudure used in progskeet can be used also on Teensy++ NORway isnt it; since they use only the flasher point but the main exploit is in the software itself. But anyway, this is quite interesting since no one has taken the NOR downgrade procedure yet.

I think the real gold here is that they hint switching between CFW and OFW easily. If it is a simple/quick enough procedure, and assuming we can keep our HDD data (I have 2 HDDs so shouldn't be an issue for me) then this could be very promising.

Oh, looks like another person whining because they can't install a PUP directly on their 3.70 PS3 but actually have to mod the PS3.
Besides, it's not as hard as you think. No pain no gain. There are tutorials on how to disassemble a PS3. The problem is soldering the ProgSkeet which should be fine once they release the solderless clip.

"Soon we will publish a tutorial to go from 3.55 to 3.70".... I'll do that for you now...insert USB media with update 3.70 or higher.. Seriously though, this has been done before, if you read the forums on Progskeet's website, a lot of people are downgrading, attempting RSOD repairs by moving bad blocks etc. albeit not with 3.70. I didn't think anyone would be stupid enough to update to that. They didn't mention anything about dual-firmware. They just said they will publish a tut. on how to use the progskeet. We know how to do this already. Don't read too much into this. This is just a bunch of guys who used a progskeet correctly with patched files and announced it to the world as if they'd cured cancer.

The thing is the ProgSkeet would allow you to easily update then downgrade as many times as you want, and Sony shouldn't be able to patch this.
I would recommend using another HDD when on "OFW mode" than in CFW though, to avoid Sony detecting this. It's annoying to take them in and out all the time, but it's better than being banned isn't it?

You're right Pereb that Sony won't be able to patch this. We have direct writable access to the NAND/NOR. Unless Sony cut off my electricity supply, they can't do anything about this. You're also right that you can upgrade/downgrade at will. I certainly will be if the postman bothers to deliver my board. Just nothing new here apart from more sensationalist headlines, that's all.

I'm with the population on this one, very very awesome news, but if you don't have a couple of ps3's laying around to fiddle with, than this isn't that 'great' of news to the average user. It brings us one step closer, but I'm afraid it brings us that step closer to hardware modding, something most people dreaded. Now I'm not complaining but I have the patience to wait just that extra mile for a softmod of some-sorts. I've modded PSP's, NDS, repaired and taken them apart, but something as expensive and rare as the PS3 phat in my condition (not risking buying one that could be broken and spend more time fixing) I'm not willing to take the risk. If in the far, far future it seems hardware-modding is the way to go, I won't be shy to buy a broken Ps3, fix it up and do this method (if this method includes new CFW, otherwise I won't bother).
