    Hopefully this isn't a glimpse into the future. Reports from egamer are stating that the the local SAFACT (South African Federation Against Copyright Theft), in conjunction with other South African law enforcement agencies have conducted a PS3 Jailbreak raid. So far one arrest has been made.



    PRESS RELEASE – PS3 JAILBREAK RAID AND ARREST

    South Africa, 2ND August 2011, Johannesburg:

    The first Playstation 3 jailbreak raid took place earlier today at a residential property in Parktown, Johannesburg. Jailbreak devices are used to circumvent the security features on PS3 consoles to facilitate the playing of pirated PS3 games.

    The raid was conducted by the South African Police Service’s Commercial Crime Unit, Johannesburg after receiving criminal complaints from the South African Federation Against Copyright Theft (SAFACT). The Police were assisted by the SARS Computer Forensics Lab.

    Various state of the art computers, circumvention software packages, jailbreak USB devices, PS3 consoles and hard drives were seized. In addition fake PS2 games, original PS3 games, believed to be used as masters and documentation were seized.

    One suspect had been arrested and he will remain in custody until the court appearance for bail in the Specialized Commercial Crimes Court in the next couple of days. It is the first PS3 circumvention arrest in the world.

      the only reason as to why this happened is so the organization can get some press.
      do not think this would put a damper on any new exploits devs are supposedly working on.

      If there was 3.66 cfw involved in this we could probably find a way to download it and make it compatable on USA ps3 systems.

      pretty pathethic, and I don't care what kind of idiot answer my post. The scene is death, if the cfw can't handle games 3.56+ and the balance updates who requires 3.60 keys in figthing games it's not worth the time. ultimate marvel vs capcom 3, batman arkham city, uncharted 3, gundam extreme vs, modern warfare 3, resistance 3, and so on..... all those games > stupid homebrew games. I've two ps3 but still I'll not sacrifice the chance to play ultimate marvel vs capcom 3 nor gundam exvs in two ps3, specially the last one with the lan option. I'll not sacrifice balance in figthing games because without the balance patchs there are usless and cfw can't even use updates with 3.60 keys. And yes, I guarantee that in november 15 you will still have pathethic cfw with only 3.55- games compatibility xDDDD. Now I'll enjoy how this crappy scene suffers when all those amazing games comes out in november because IT WON'T BE A CFW FOR 3.56+ ON NOVEMBER NOR THIS YEAR!!! Maybe you will get cfw 3.60 when ofw 4.00 is released xDDDD keep releasing pathethic showtime programs, crappy emulators and homebrew games

      They can come and raid me all they want, I don't have any pirated games for them to find. You should see my shelf of 360 games, I had to buy a bigger shelf just to display them all.My PS3 collection is small and is mostly PS3 exclusives (The reason I own [not rent] a PS3). I have 2 PS3's and NEITHER of them will ever see an OFW eve again. I don't even care about PSN or online gameplay. I have Xbox LIVE gold and I still don't even play online.

      But seriously, why would I wate my time helping this stupid scene? yeah, I study ing informatic and I know a lot of this things but why would I help this pathethic piece of shit? I helped the xbox scene and the psp scene because they were actually working together, not like this piece of shit where nobody can do a thing. I only work in things where I get paid, I do nothing for free! so don't try to bash me because the only reason I'm still here is in order to compare all the console scenes and of course this is the worst

      as informative as this whole jewish talk is,any chance we could get back on topic, and maybe you guys can make a thread just for discussing this jewish issue. was this raid on someone just using the jailbreak or on people who were selling them and installing cfw as a business??

      We don't hate blacks you backward thinking child. Do some research before making a statement on a subject you clearly don't understand. South Africa has come a long way over the past 16 years and we continue to work together to bring equality among our nation. So GTFO. (And now you just created my first flame)

      He/she was probably selling jailbreak devices and charging to jailbreak your console. I have seen some ads here in RSA regarding this.

      Wow man, you are SOOOOOOO ignorant!! I live in South-Africa and let me tell you something, the whole racism thing in this country has been reversed. After apartheid ended you can't find a job unless you black. I've been told to my face several time "You are perfect for the job but we need someone black". Don't talk shit if you don't know what's going on.

      It is true that there is a lot of racism in my country and it suck, because it's really holding us back. I'm not a racist and I just wish people can stop being childish.

      And I just want to say again to everyone, the guy that got busted is not a dev, he's a pirate, I know him, he's a twat, he didn't hack anything himself, he's selling dongles for 3.41 and charging people to install CFW.
