Sony Stores Closed Due to Operation Sony

As some of you may already know, today is the day of the "Sony Boycott" that was organized by the underground online group known as "Anonymous". As previously reported, the boycott was to be held inside Sony stores around the globe, where users would loiter around and not buy anything. It was argued over how successful such a spread out demonstration could really be. However, the photographs below suggest that Sony is not taking the demonstrations lightly.

Reports are coming in that Sony stores across Europe are closed for the day and it can be speculated that the closings are in anticipation of the demonstrations. Shoppers are being greeted with signs which state: "We are sorry the Sony Centre is closed" "We will be open as soon as possible" and "CLOSED DUE TO UNFORSEEN CIRCUMSTANCES". Some of the stores are even being guarded by local Police and security guards. One can only imagine the amount of lost revenue due to these store closings.

Doesn't this just defeat the point? I mean the point of the boycott was to not buy anything and, well, make Sony lose some money I guess. But by shutting the stores, they're not only keeping out the boycotters, but also potential customers

Not so ineffectual after all.. I wonder if Anonymous will keep this up untill Sony stops being so rediculous and embraces the oppertunity that all of this publicity and above all the usefulness of the open console will give.

The Play Station sold SO many because people had loads of copied games and they went out and bought way more than they would have, which in turn made their mates go out and buy more games too cause they'd all be loaning each others stuff. And above all, it was COOL. If Sony were cool once again then they'd knock Micro$oft out of the water, even if they brought out a new console. Pity they're so narrow minded.

Don't you see, it worked! I bet Anonymous had no intention of following through. Sony took the bait and fell for it hook line and sinker! It would seem that the 'public' still have something powerful to say! Just wait for the cover story, some nonsence about a memorial date or something to make us all feel bad for them.

What Sony doesn't realize is that this is EXACTLY what Anon wants. Hmm, how to make sure demonstrators won't NOT buy stuff? Make it to where NOBODY can buy stuff! ^_^

If they aren't expecting to make many sales, it's probably better not to pay employees for the day.

SO what they lost sales today what about tomorrow? its not like they will lose billions in a matter of 8 Hours

Closing was the best thing to do people don't understand the Police WILL use force for the fun of bashing someone else's skill into the pavement so this was for the best

Theres still no point in going to a Sony electronic store and Saying HEY i dont wana buy your stuff any more... Big ******g whoop go buy JVC stuff then but dont go complaining when your Head phones break or hurt your ears only a Sony brand of head phones will bring satisfaction

The epic part about this is.......Though the stores are closed people can still order online like who really wants to leave there house and get stuck in traffic anyway?

Washed Up rapper? really? I take it that you have not used a pair of Beats by Dre, those are the greatest pair of headphones on the dam planet. And I would not go to a $ony store to buy them I got mine from the Apple store,(F uck $ony) I am so glad to see how this turn out, Boycott was a HUGE success, without anyone having to leave home. I wonder how much they lost today...And you know they did lose in a mall they still have to pay rent for a bussiness that was closed, and they may have also gotten fined by those malls where they were closed. Dre head phones are dumb, big & pointless. I live in nyc and every one has them. However, people have died because of them too. Walking late & losing all awareness because of those stupid head phones causes a lost of lives. 200 dollars and they quality is not great either. They break fast and my iPhone head phones, those which break faster than any headphones , last longer than the the dre's. They over priced and boss headphones are cheaper and better. Like the comment before hand said, he is a washed up rapper trying to make $ off people who don't have $ in the first place.

In regards to this boy cotting. Sony is soft. They lost a few 100,000$ on today & tomorrow. It shows that the consumers do have more power than greedy companies.

Sony had armed guards? They were probably going to have the guards tell the anons to buy stuff, or they'd get beaten up. xD
