If they think releasing multiple versions of 3.56 is actually HURTING those running CFW, they're sadly mistaken... Sure it may slow down the DEVs for a while as now anyone working on a 3.56 CFW will have to switch gears and start working on the new version of 3.56 (with whatever else they sneaked into this release like the ROOT KIT I've read about having been found in v3.56 which allows Sony to remotely execute code on your console). But in time, a new CFW will be released rest assured and I'm sure they'll slam the lid on this too.

For those on 3.55 and CFW none of these games really matter. They can play their DL'd or BU'd games, PSN games... and with the DNS fix (while it continues to work), even online for those who dare or don't care of the potential implications...

So yes Sony, we laugh at your feeble (yet corporately necessary) games while countless wide-open PS3's continue to operate un-impeded by your actions...

P.S. The source for my "ROOT KIT" information as mentioned above is from an entry on ps3-hacks.com. Whether it's true or not, can't say... just throwing it out there.

I'm not sure if this report is accurate. Or maybe the new firmware is only out in certain regions? I downloaded the current file from http://us.playstation.com/support/systemupdates/ps3/ and it still causes the error on a new hard drive. Also the MD5 from the file I downloaded is 2a52196399a4b96ea568aafa65d1a27e.

I run a PS3 repair business and have a customer with a relatively new PS3 that needs a hard drive replacement (his drive was killed when the machine was dropped). Unfortunately I still receive the error code and "corrupt" message when attempting a hard drive replacement using a USB stick containing the update file downloaded today.

Can anyone else report success with an update file? Where did you download it from?

Restore OFW 3.55 to your PS3 using the recovery menu, then you can use the XMB system update option to get the most current Sony OFW if that's what you choose to do. (It is important that you go to 3.55 OFW before updating to 3.56) Keep in mind, that at this time, there's no going back to CFW if you decide to go to the most current Sony OFW.

I have also read reports that people reset their PS3 to stock/new and wipe out all copied games and PSN games (any copied or backed up or homebrew software) before going to 3.56. Wouldn't hurt to do that as well.

yay, to bad it only fixes HALF the problem, it only works if you have the original HDD to install the 'new' 3.56 fw on first, many have already wiped the old HDD so still get 'data corrupted' error trying to use the 'new' 3.56 on their HDD

I think that this update confirms the rumour that OFW3.56 is a major security update that prevents the PS3 from being jailbroken/modified. Protection was so high that even an upgraded HD was showing up as corrupted.

thie is the error when trying to install 3.56 on a new HDD

the main reason i got a ps3 was to play ps2 games BUT OHH WAIT the ps3's that play ps2 games are still about 400$ here with a wapping 80gig HDD and some 6 hour game ill finish and toss away, i have 2 ps2's but i need a ps3 to further my collection of Game consoles it makes me more pissed my Uncle sold his first launch ps3 instead of giving it to me.

It took 5 years to have a decent PS2 emulator for the PC. And it's still not perfect. I say if you really want BC, buy a damn PS2. Those things are dirt cheap with 100% PS2 compatibility

And i Said i already have 2 DAM PS2's....& Yea only 20$ here my grandma has a few ps2's herself i have ps2 access out the ass please pay attention u_u. i don't want to keep hooking and unhooking consoles when i can just have my wii and ps3 on one t.v and play all my favorite games..i wouldn't mind paying 400$ for Launch console IF they still had it in stores i would never wait my time buying online dam postal service takes months to get me one item in my state there afraid of the locals robbing them...
