  • Sony Gearing Up To Issue The Ban Hammer - CFW Users Beware!

The PlayStation 3 scene should have expected this. Various reports suggest that anyone using custom firmware and using PSN/SEN will be banned. Even those using fckPSN or other means of bypassing access to PSN/SEN can be included in the ban wave. I for one have never used online access on my custom firmware PS3, so it would be interesting to see how far the ban hammer reaches. If you are one of the unlucky ones you will be met with a error code 8002A231. Please inform fellow CFW users should you encounter this.

I think it gotta do with Black Ops 2 being released if you are playing a popular multiplayer game (COD) then I would strongly advise you to not play online. If you are playing low level multiplayer games I think you can get buy but then again I stress to dont go online period.

Black Ops 2 made over 500 million in 24 hours so the revenue that the game is making is alot. Even though there isnt that much CFW users vs the general public, despite how many RGH/PS3 consoles out there Activision still made a good haul in 24 hours. So just imagine the week and Christmas sales. It really do make sense Sony is right now targeting popular multiplayer games which is why users are basically getting banned for Black Ops 2 rather than any other game. Sony doesnt give a damn if you are playing Little Big Planet online LOL also lot's of multiplayer games require an online pass. (Dont get me started on THQ with WWE13) so basically if the game is free (COD) and alot of DLC comes out for it (COD) Hackers can find a way and get the DLC for free (Street Fighter X Tekken) So the revenue would be effected (slightly)

But still COD is one of the most overatted/popular FPS out right now. I know ima pick it up and buy it but yeah Sony is basically targeting people who are playing COD at the moment. You dont hear anything about BF3 because you gotta pay $10 bucks for an online pass if you bought it used. EA games those greedy f****

For the record I don't believe in paying for DLC or an online pass for any game because back in the PS2 era whatever unlockable there was all you had to do was get it in the game. But the (new generation) of gamers has accepted the (DLC disease) So companies like Ubisoft/Rockstar Games/Activision/ and etc..etc.. are following in EA games footsteps. The game already cost $60 bucks so as a buyer I feel that I am entitled of having evreything on that game disc. But gaming companies feel that they are losing money because of used game sales but used game sales has been around since NES days. This is why people pirate video games in the first place. But for online I still believe that you need to buy the game for online but when it comes to buying the DLC/Online passes the hell with that.
"If the games are free (COD)"... If I remember correctly, the new COD games need an online pass so your argument is kind of mute. Also Little Big Planet is one of Sony's best selling games so saying they don't care about it is a bit silly.

MW3 you don't need an online pass BUT you are going to have to pay for expansion map packs. Idk about Black Ops 2 but I doubt it. But what I am saying is for games such as Black Ops 2 Sony is targeting players that are playing (that game) in particular. They can still ban people that play any other game but I strongly doubt they would ban them on the spot like they would like COD.

But mostly to play online with COD it's free but in reality you are spending money on the expansion maps.

Also what makes little big planet so popular? I have never played the game I thought that it was a kids game.

That is weird because when I loaded MW3 before it asked for an online pass. I'll test that now. Also Little Big Planet has always been popular because of it's puzzles and multiplayer. It is popular among kids and women mostly and you should never under-estimate the size of that market.

I have played almost evrey COD game to date (except) Black Ops 2 and it never required an online pass. I know some map packs you pay for but for the basic online game play it's free.

EDIT: It's like Killzone you play the regular online mode for free but for expansion online gameplay and map packs you gotta pay $14.99 and (other fees) for it.

yeah I was thinking of Battlefield 3. Nevermind LOL!

I do agree with you about the online pass bull though. Publishers say they are losing money, well, how do they explain the gaming industry constantly getting bigger and bigger and them making more money every year? I am surprised some people actually believe the BS they tell them.

It's the new generations of gamers. Reason why I say that people who bought the game deserves to go online is because they bought the game. But when it comes to online passes/ dlc it's unnecessary because those things should already be included in the initial purchase. I pretty much played every console (except for nintendo gamecube/wii/original xbox) and most things you get in the game you just unlocked it by a level. PS2 online was pretty bad lol but it was the best we had. But it was simple. If the game was good (5 star game) then it will be a platinum/greatest hit.

Game companies are just getting greedy almost evrey game now haves some DLC to it. I bought WWE 13 + AC3 for $120. Now (Get this) A season pass cost $29.99 for some exclusive story dealing with George Washington or something like that. But that should be in the game. WWE 13 they are charging (in December) for some titles and characters or just buy the Fan Access pass for $19.99. When I played Smackdown VS Raw 2006 back in 2005-early 2006 all of this stuff was in the game for free just did what you have to do to unlock it.

Sadly this is where gaming is heading. Old School gamers who been playing for a while cant stand this DLC crap but newer generation gamers (COD Players) Don't mind spending those $15-20 extra bucks when in reality it's really the same thing year after year. Reason why I buy cod is because I like the story that is implemented into it. But most COD players just rush into multiplayer I wish that COD had a more dedicated story mode than just the usual 4-6 hours.

$60 is alot for a single video game that 9/10 times you will beat in 12 hours and if you are lucky 15-18 hours (excluding RPG) the "playback value" is BS because once I beat a game "no matter how good it is" I wont play it again. I just feel is you are paying $60 a game all of that stuff should be incorporated into the price. Used game sales will always exist. Gaming companies are just getting greedier and greedier.

I would like to thank the younger generation of gamers for letting this happen. If nobody bought the DLC then we wouldn't get it thanks alot guys.

Why are you blaming the younger generation? By your username you are 20 years old, anyone just a few years younger than that can't actually buy DLC themselves anyway. Most people who buy DLC are actually adults. Most of my friends who have their consoles online buy DLC all the time. It isn't because of the "younger generation", all ages are involved.

If your friends can see what you're "playing" then of course Sony would be able to as well.

I have a huge library of games that I play all the time. Some games I have purchased for multiple system if I really want to play it a lot. I have bought Borderlands for 360, PS3, PC and Mac. The only game that I continually buy DLC for is Rock Band if it's songs I want to play. The online pass stuff is crap. I've already had it where the stupid online pass wasn't printed correctly and I had to convince the publisher to give me another one.

If you are connected to PSN, anything you are currently doing is shown on playstation.com. I remember when CFW first got PSN access and people were using Multiman and it showed in their profile online that they were playing that. I always stay off PSN when playing homebrew. Also keep in mind that a lot of information is sent to Sony even when not connected to PSN. I can get game updates without being connected to PSN. Many things get logged while you play, connected to PSN or not.

Also, fastest way to get you banned is to cheat online especially in Black Ops 2. Cheaters should be banned. I don't mind cheating in single player mode to have some fun, but cheating online to gain an unfair advantage such as auto-aim, infinite health, seen through walls is just wrong. I remember when Datel was going to release Wii Action Replay, they made it so it would turn cheats off if you connected to the Nintendo WiFi Connection. Too bad Nintendo blocked it from working on the Wii.

I am curious to know what caused the people who have been banned to get banned. I have been online with CFW every time we had PSN access and so far haven't been banned. I mostly go online to download my purchased PSN content or to update my Trophies. Other than that, I could care less about PSN access.

For people who have been banned, is it the console itself that was banned or the account or both. Console ban, no so bad for me, but account ban, I don't want to loose everything I have ever bought on PSN over the years.

I'm an old player too, and the "new generation" of players for me are the last two generations of consoles (PS2 - PS3/360).

The COD kiddies that jumped into the gaming world are fairly recent.

When I think of it, I started with much less "violent" games (Mario, Alex Kid, etc..), these days kids get to play GTA or COD. No wonder they're spoiled brats with trash mentality.

      F*cked up world.

My friend was playing MW2 when it first came out and a 6 year old told him f you when my friend killed him. The problem is that parents don't police their children in what game they play. I don't play online for either PS3 or 360 due to the racial comments I always hear.

Some parents just don't care what game their kids play. I grew up with non violent games like Super Mario Bros. I didn't even watch violent cartoons like Dragonball Z. Years ago my 5 year sister watched power rangers once and she would imitate them on me which our mother didn't like so we were banned from watching that show.

I may only be 26 now but the kids of this generation don't know what it was like when we were kids. If we wanted to play with our friends, we went over to their house for a play date. There was no Playstation or Xbox.

      Content is not restricted enough.
Back in the days we didn't need all these age restrictions since these games didn't exist.

There was Metal Gear and other shooting franchise, but it was just small sprites fighting each other, there was no blood or graphical kills.
I've been playing the COD's campaigns, they're fairly good, but certainly not adapted for 13 year olds. The language is crude and the killing is brutal.

It may sound stupid and harmless, but in a child's head these things mark and can create trauma.

I also avoid playing online on COD/BF3 on console, for the simple reason that you will be insulted for every kill you make.
What about PES/FIFA ? I had to stop playing PES online back in the days, because I would be insulted and racially discriminated when I won a game.

The mentality of the new generation of kids is scary.

When the first Playstation came out, my parents refused to buy one.
They saw footage of Tekken in action and thought it was too violent.

I secretly played it at my friends house without my parents knowing.
And god knows the first Tekken is miles away from COD and other gory games these days, that kiddies play in their rooms without their parents giving a damn.

Then they end up slaughtering peoples at school with guns, and we ask ourselves "why".

Look at Columbine. They took the violent game Doom and modded it to recreate their school.

Most kids simply don't understand the difference between fantasy and reality. They see a player on COD get killed and that player then respawns. They translate that into, if they shoot s real person with a gun, they will simply respawn. That has happened before where 2 kids were playing and one kids finds his dad's pistol and shoot the other kid not knowing that the pistol can and will kill and that we don't respwn.

My sister has played a little bit of Black Ops II on the 360 and almost every player camps in Team Death Match. I do wonder if everyone that supposedly has been banned from PSN cheated online in some way or is Sony simply randomly banning people to try and confuse us as to what is triggering the bannings. I would be curious if anyone on OFW gets the console ban and what Sony would do. I know Microsoft will refuse to do anything once a console is banned even if the console was wrongly banned (except for that one time when they had a software glitch that was banning legitimate consoles). I had a 360 that got the RRoD and I sent it in and they sent it back claiming it had physical damage (it didn't) so I fixed it myself and the second I tried to connect to Xbox LIVE it was banned. Of course MS refused to listen to me so I sold it on eBay as a banned console since it was an original Xenon and I was in the market for a new 360 anyway. Got $60 for the banned console which was nice.

So far the couple of people who are claiming to be banned don't have another console to see if it is simply their account that was banned.

The PS3 logs EVERYTHING. You should NEVER play homebrew while connected to PSN and you should run MultiMan with the settings that clear logs and stuff before even trying to on PSN. It's funny when you see a friend and it says they are playing MultiMan.

I disagree with CS67700 about games this violent never being around in the past. I remember playing Mortal Kombat on the Mega Drive, ripping people apart.

Also reading the past comments, there is a couple of people who ere banned who were banned who say their main account is banned on their console, but their second account works fine. So obviously, it is the accounts and not the consoles getting banned.

I think there was a new update recently and I haven't tried it yet but yeah, my first account was banned from CODBOII but my second user account wasn't

Edit: That's the price you pay for trying to play a pre-release copy. I don't play online anyway but I actually tried to give it a shot on this one since everybody's so worked up about it. It spawned me in a 3 foot hallway and as soon as I came out into the battle area I was sniped by a camper. I lasted all of 5 seconds

Now I can see why this was the "must have" online game of the season /end sarcasm
