Sony Gearing Up To Issue The Ban Hammer - CFW Users Beware!

The PlayStation 3 scene should have expected this. Various reports suggest that anyone using custom firmware and using PSN/SEN will be banned. Even those using fckPSN or other means of bypassing access to PSN/SEN can be included in the ban wave. I for one have never used online access on my custom firmware PS3, so it would be interesting to see how far the ban hammer reaches. If you are one of the unlucky ones you will be met with a error code 8002A231. Please inform fellow CFW users should you encounter this.

Thank you for your patronage of our PlayStation ® 3 from patronage. Cases of malicious software used on PlayStation ® 3 has occurred recently. Illegal use of the software, in violation of the software license agreement system for PlayStation ® 3, Terms and PlayStation ® Network, the Terms and Conditions Sony Entertainment Network. For the body 3 PlayStation ® violation was observed beyond the scope of the provision of services such as warranty and repair.

Dear valued PlayStation 3 customers,

Unauthorized software for the PlayStation 3 system was recently released by hackers. Use of such software violates the terms of the "System Software License Agreement for the PlayStation 3 System" and the "Terms of Services and User Agreement" for the PlayStation Network/Sony Entertainment Network and its Community Code of Conduct provisions.

Violation of the System Software License Agreement for the PlayStation 3 system invalidates the consumer's right to access that system. Consumers running unauthorized or pirated software may have their access to the PlayStation Network and access to Sony Entertainment Network services through PlayStation 3 system terminated permanently.

To avoid permanent termination, consumers must immediately cease using and delete all unauthorized or pirated software from their PlayStation 3 systems.

If I've only ever enabled internet connection to FTP from PC>PS3, do I need to worry? I've never played online nor used PSN/SEN.

Yes. I use Rebug 4.21 spoofed to 4.31 via Rebug Toolbox. I turned off automatic sign in so multiMAN or showtime or anything else will show. Before logging in I'll boot multiMAN to either just clear the history or to load a game. Once back to the XMB I'll sign in for my game or to go to the store

I've been reading numerous threads across a couple of sites and from what I can gather is the only reason why people have been banned these past couple of days is due to cheating. I don't think playing online before Black Ops 2 release date had any reason for ban. I say this because I was lucky to go to the COD Xp event for the MW3 debut and every attendee received a founders edition of the game. I received the game one day in advance before release date and was playing online right from the start without problems. My point is playing before release date has nothing to do with bans. I noticed there were people already at lvl 40+ before release date when I went on. Nothing strange because they probably recieved their copies in advance. So far all the bans were due to cheating. Correct me of I'm wrong but i havent seen a single person who has been banned for just CFW.

i've played a bit online an seems fine....but yeah i suppose if nothing happens for a few weeks or so then it should be safe.

right now just gotta wait an see.....some people have been banned but i would wager they were cheating/playing black ops 2.

I managed to get online with Black Ops 2. I can't use the user account that I initially booted the game pre-release. I have to use my European PSN account (I use it for DLC for Euro games from the store).

Played for a few minutes - got bored and shut it off. If your black ops account is banned there's a workaround

Edit: Where's all the CFW online haters now?

I can concur. Cannot play with my main account. Stil receiving server error but using secondary account works fine.

Does the region of your game disc match the region of your secondary PSN account? I was just curious because my main non-working account is US, my game is UK and my secondary working account is also UK

afaik, ps3 games are region free, and the game has to have a server in your country for you to get online. so if u are playing a jap game in usa and the game doesnt have a server or isnt compat with the usa server then u cant play online.
thats what i gathered from trying to find out about playing a eur dark souls with my friend here in canada.

Not all games are region free anymore. Persona 4 is region locked to NTSC and PAL. That's what made me think if your user account region didn't match the game region, then you wouldn't be able to connect to a server

I have a PAL ps3, but the NTSC game and it works just fine for me, granted I cant update the game since that will give me errors.
Not sure if it is working simply becourse Im not logged into PSN when I boot the game. But hey it works for me

If I recall correctly, Microsoft didn't start banning 360's until someone figured out a way to cheat in Gears of War. Even Nintendo wasn't banning Wii's until people used modified Wiis to cheat in Mario Kart Wiis and as far as I know only cheaters were banned.

Then again there are pure cheaters and people who exploit bugs in the game. Believe me, it's no fun spending weeks getting up to 10th prestige level 70 only to get reset back to level 1 because some jackwagon thinks it funny.

I say ban the cheaters and leave the rest of us in peace. There are those of us who do buy PS3 games. I've spent hundreds in the PSN Store and on retail games.

Sure most of my time is spent on the 360, but if I like a game enough (Borderlands anyone) I'll buy it for all systems and play it until I've done everything I can possibly do.

I was on PSN with CFW 3.55 back when Sony sent out these same emails and I'm still on PSN today with Rogero 4.30. Of course I sign-off when using homebrew as that's just asking for trouble when your profile on Sony's site says your playing an unofficial game.

I have to laugh when they call CFW "Malicious". It's only "Malicious" to their wallets if people use it to pirate but cheating online is just plain wrong.

You load Multiman, select a game so it goes back to XMB, your history is cleared.

would it be terrible to be signed in and use multiman? mainly cause i'm curious if it would be okay to load psx games through multiman and still be signed in and chat and stuff.

i've done it a few times already and the only times i sign off is early releases and homebrew/showtime.

I'd avoid it. Some people are saying multiman shows up on PSN friend list. I don't know if the people are just using an old version or what but for the time being I'd say not to

Just like BahumatLord said I would avoid signing in at PSN at all costs. Krytonic said it earlier Sony would still ban you anyway since you are using unsigned code (I still highly doubt they would) but then again It's Sony they are keeping track of your console when you are signed in.

If you wanna try then try at your own risk but if you get banned don't blame anyone on here who warned you.
