Sony Gearing Up To Issue The Ban Hammer - CFW Users Beware!

The PlayStation 3 scene should have expected this. Various reports suggest that anyone using custom firmware and using PSN/SEN will be banned. Even those using fckPSN or other means of bypassing access to PSN/SEN can be included in the ban wave. I for one have never used online access on my custom firmware PS3, so it would be interesting to see how far the ban hammer reaches. If you are one of the unlucky ones you will be met with a error code 8002A231. Please inform fellow CFW users should you encounter this.

Thank you for your patronage of our PlayStation ® 3 from patronage. Cases of malicious software used on PlayStation ® 3 has occurred recently. Illegal use of the software, in violation of the software license agreement system for PlayStation ® 3, Terms and PlayStation ® Network, the Terms and Conditions Sony Entertainment Network. For the body 3 PlayStation ® violation was observed beyond the scope of the provision of services such as warranty and repair.

Dear valued PlayStation 3 customers,

Unauthorized software for the PlayStation 3 system was recently released by hackers. Use of such software violates the terms of the "System Software License Agreement for the PlayStation 3 System" and the "Terms of Services and User Agreement" for the PlayStation Network/Sony Entertainment Network and its Community Code of Conduct provisions.

Violation of the System Software License Agreement for the PlayStation 3 system invalidates the consumer's right to access that system. Consumers running unauthorized or pirated software may have their access to the PlayStation Network and access to Sony Entertainment Network services through PlayStation 3 system terminated permanently.

To avoid permanent termination, consumers must immediately cease using and delete all unauthorized or pirated software from their PlayStation 3 systems.

In order to help provide a safe, fair, online environment, consumers who we believe violate "Terms of Services and User Agreement" for the PlayStation Network/Sony Entertainment Network or the applicable laws or regulations of their country or region risk having access to the PlayStation Network and access to Sony Entertainment Network services terminated permanently.

I didn't say don't sign in to PSN. I said be careful about it. But yeah, everybody's been warned so no crying

Yeah I know but I still wouldn't sign in anyway because idk if Sony (really) keep tracks of your console. But it just leaves an uneasy feeling doing something that you aren't supposed to be doing.

My secondary account is also US like my main account and the game is Euro. Was playing fine all night last night but now I get server error 20.0.-1 I'm assuming making another account will work but I really don't care anymore about BO2 :-/

BO2 is only released on November 30th in europe, this is why you got banned.

Goku still around? lol just got done reading a lot from him. Goku, I feel you, but gonna keep it real since i have so many backed up games. I play for myself, in fact even if im online I am too myself period. BUT at the end of the day, I'm just screwing the "system" thats ****ing us all anyway . Don't feel bad anyone, IMO dont cheat, dont do anything to piss off sony and you should be good.

But I like doing something that I'm not supposed to be doing. I am rather enjoying Dark Souls online at the moment.

How I see it is, if I don't go on PSN because of fear of ban, then am I not just banning myself by not going on it? Negates the point of having it really if I just don't go on it to "be safe". So I'll keep using and if I do get banned then there are still plenty of games to play offline.

When someone loses an argument or are proven wrong it is very common for them to then randomly go on to unrelated spelling and grammar so they can "win" or get the last word in the end. It is rather sad. He didn't try to offend you.

But anyway, if you have purchased a lot of PSN content I understand not going on there at all, only to redownload stuff. But if you don't buy off PSN but instead buy everything on physical disc, then don't ban yourself otherwise you'll never use PSN anyway just be careful.

how is last_game? i notice that the last game icon was in the "what's new" section and it was labeled as the last game i loaded rather than "load last game". i thought that was kinda interesting and i tried it out to much success. i thought maybe it was gonna just boot the disc instead.

I agree with krytonic on this.
I understand why a person would shy away from the service for a while in fear of being banned. Maybe a solution will show up in the near future to keep from being banned.

I came home from a road trip and fired up my 360. Did a little online gaming then signed off. I didn't have internet access while on the road back then and didn't realize a HUGE ban wave was in effect. My console was banned a soon as I signed on. No big deal. I never really played online anyway.

I have recently started playing a couple games online on both my consoles (one with ofw and one with cfw). If the cfw console gets banned, it's not a big deal to me. I can simply continue playing the games online on the ofw console. The only real reason I have a cfw console anyway is to keep the discs from getting scratched up while I am traveling and most of the time that console has no internet access.

I've seen a few posts of people saying they have turned off access and will not use PSN again (as krytonic pointed out). This really doesn't make much sense if you enjoy online gaming. Just stay offline until a solution comes along.

I'm really pushing it by using multiman while logged into Psn. Hell I'm even playing hitman absolution while logged in. I guess I'll be the guinea pig

agreed, auto sign in off and let the game ask you. then sign out before exiting. basically all i would do if i was gonna try. may not b worth it tho

Why do you think it is a bluff? Microsoft have banned thousands of people with CFW on their DVD drives. Also.. Too lazy? Too lazy to press a couple of buttons on a controller that is already in your hand?

Well I know some people with CFW are playing some games and Sony didn't ban them yet. I think it gotta do with Black Ops 2 being released if you are playing a popular multiplayer game (COD) then I would strongly advise you to not play online. If you are playing low level multiplayer games I think you can get buy but then again I stress to dont go online period.

Black Ops 2 made over 500 million in 24 hours so the revenue that the game is making is alot. Even though there isnt that much CFW users vs the general public, despite how many RGH/PS3 consoles out there Activision still made a good haul in 24 hours. So just imagine the week and Christmas sales. It really do make sense Sony is right now targeting popular multiplayer games which is why users are basically getting banned for Black Ops 2 rather than any other game. Sony doesnt give a damn if you are playing Little Big Planet online LOL also lot's of multiplayer games require an online pass. (Dont get me started on THQ with WWE13) so basically if the game is free (COD) and alot of DLC comes out for it (COD) Hackers can find a way and get the DLC for free (Street Fighter X Tekken) So the revenue would be effected (slightly)

But still COD is one of the most overatted/popular FPS out right now. I know ima pick it up and buy it but yeah Sony is basically targeting people who are playing COD at the moment. You dont hear anything about BF3 because you gotta pay $10 bucks for an online pass if you bought it used. EA games those greedy f****

For the record I don't believe in paying for DLC or an online pass for any game because back in the PS2 era whatever unlockable there was all you had to do was get it in the game. But the (new generation) of gamers has accepted the (DLC disease) So companies like Ubisoft/Rockstar Games/Activision/ and etc..etc.. are following in EA games footsteps. The game already cost $60 bucks so as a buyer I feel that I am entitled of having evreything on that game disc. But gaming companies feel that they are losing money because of used game sales but used game sales has been around since NES days. This is why people pirate video games in the first place. But for online I still believe that you need to buy the game for online but when it comes to buying the DLC/Online passes the hell with that.
