  • Sony Expanding It's Case - Looking For All PS3 Hackers

Sony isn't done yet, in regards to their legal case. Their latest legal move, Sony appears to be issuing subpoenas to several high profile websites. They are doing this in an effort to locate more PS3 hackers. "They are planning to subpoena various internet sites, including PSX-SCENE, YouTube, Twitter, PayPal, Slashdot, GitHub, and Google in an attempt to locate new defendants such as Cantero, Peter, Bushing, Segher, hermesEOL, kmeaw, Waninkoko, grafchokolo and kakaroto."

How dumb is Sony? Half of the locations where these hackers live will be out of US jurisdiction anyways. Pretty sure a couple of them are from Sweden and Russia.

Good luck holding grounds in those areas with your "EULA".

Woooow what a bunch of dicks. But aren't most of these people outside their jurisdiction, let alone the U.S.? They would of been better off making money from people using homebrew instead of being a bunch of paranoid ****s.

Sony is gonna spend hundreds of thousands of dollars, in this pursuit of Hackers and whatever, they aren't gonna get anywhere, as we are talking about a world wide spread of this so called Hackers.

Bottom line they won't get anywhere whit this, spend a shit load of money, and looking stupid, and all that could have been avoid, if they simply see what they did wrong in the 1st place for someone to be able to break their security and learn the lesson.

Sony will win this one, just like AACS won the HD DVD key battle by using the same tactics. Oh wait

lool DMCA is only effective as sonys reach but they cannot control everything such as torrents and once its up on a newsgroup its impossible to remove or take down so some one get a collection together and upload em to that

instead of suing the devs ,, sony should do a competition to see who the best is and then make a ton of money by making something awesome with them ,, but nope sony has to ruin everyones fun ......

C'mon Sony you were doing SOOOOOOO good...finally got ur cell worked out and pumping out high quality games...best lineup this year...i am rooting for you...

Please...whatever you do...keep the same intensity you've had going on and keep pushing out great games...thats all I'm worried about...

Other than that...theres no turning back from this...the PS3 is hacked...the 360 and the Wii have been hacked FOREVER it seems and arent they above you in terms of sales? I dont see them stressing out to the max and trying to sue everybody in sight....

there will ALWAYS be hacks, mods, jailbreaking etc....ALWAYS....THERE. IS. NO. WAY. TO. STOP. IT.

I'm really get sick of Sony's inability to accept they have been beaten. They are trying to claim piracy when it's not our fault that people have a corrupt side...Guess it's time to start sueing gun makers for the guns they make...I might go kill someone soon!\

Serious Sony, stop being a bunch of butthurt little crybabies. Hell even Nintendo and Microsoft aren't this bunch of whiners.

Why is Sony suing everyone when Microsoft and Nintendo aren't? And they're suing people who don't even have any money to begin with. When The Sega Dreamcast died which could have been part of Piracy reasons, Sega didn't try to sue everyone. Sega>Sony

Funny thing is, most people won't even be able to hack their ps3's seeing how most people on this planet are brain-dead. So Sony is getting bent out of shape that maybe like a couple thousand ppl hack their own consoles when hundred thousand more have not and will not because they're too stupid to.

Reason piracy affected Dreamcast alot is because you didn't have to do anything at all to modify the dreamcast other than burn a cd-r.

i bought a dreamcast when they came out, unfortunately the games available at the time all sucked, they was all the same graphics as my ps 1. lol.
Sony sucks, they are paranoid the ps3 will end up like the psp.

Face it sony, ps3's cherry has been popped, no going back after that. sueing people won't fix anything.s3up:

Time for a ps4 to come out anyways. I mean jesus christ its been like 4-5 years right? They should get to work on the security protection of that device.

Sony is totally going about this wrong. Look at the Google android platform, there begin sued (oracle) and they still hold competitions for best android apps.

Sony should make a home-brew site monetize it and run the community for hits, it could have a app of the ps3 and the possibilities are endless. besides that most people out there have no clue how to mod a console. I'm not agreeing that backups are a good thing and Sony should support pirates, just home-brew. They could market it as the open-source console. I know so many people that would love to run out and buy a ps3 for more functionality cuz there 360 is ROD and Microsoft blows lol.

This attitude isn't even just a problem with Sony its world wide. Instead of embracing change and rolling with it people fight wars and sue. This to me seems so counter productive.

It's funny and ironic actually. Sony is suing people for "circumventing" the PS3 and Microsoft and Google are challenging people (and going to pay them or give some kind of reward) to "hack" their product. (Google's offering up twenty thousand for someone to hack Chrome and Microsoft offered a phone and tshirt for hacking Windows phone).

I'm trying to find some sort of document stating SCEA advertised use of OtherOS on the PS3 (so if anyone can help me out with this it would be great), because a class action lawsuit against SCEA is the alternative to this garbage!

I would love to see how they explain false advertisement within the DMCA!

Edit: Since the PS3 is considered a computer I'm curious if a class action lawsuit can be made against Sony for causing some people to not be able to use their PS3 after upgrading their harddrive due to the release of Firmware 3.56. I would think it is possible since SCEA would have to issue either a fix, replacement and/or apology on an error on their behalf.

Where's some true law buffs out there that read up on things like this? I can't be the only one.
