PSX-SCENE Forum Discussion for Sony PlayStation/PsOne/PS2/PS3/PSP/PS VITA
  • Solar 4.2 Released

It's been a while since we have heard of Condorstrike. After a break he is back with some updates to our favourite PlayStation 3 screensaver. Solar version 4.2 is out with some interesting changes. One that stands out is the two hour auto shut down feature for those who fall asleep in front of their PS3's. Also added is a rebuilt 3D engine, a boot screen and something called system trivia.

    About Solar 4.2:
Hi guys, Here's another update, Solar v4.2.

Even though I took a little break, I'm back with a new Solar update; added a bunch of stuff this time around , most of them are in the changelog. There's two versions, stand-alone and Rogero Manager's. For Rogero Manager both PKGs need to be installed.
    Changelog:
    • Rebuilt the 3D engine.
    • Added more items to UI interface.
    • Added memory counter.
    • Added FPS (frames per second).
    • Added better light engine.
    • Added a 2 hours counter for system turn off.
    • Added ICON1.PAM (animated icon).
    • Added an intro loading screen.
    • Added Solar system trivia.
    • Added some minor MP3 player tweaks.
    • Created 2 version (stand-alone/multiMAN & Rogero Manager built in "automatic launching").
    • And a lot more stuff, I should write them down as I go...lol

      good article tranced!

I plan to test it. I've had trouble with the previous versions where it doesn't seem to read my mp3s from my external HDDs.

Awesome find(or creation???) with the picture. It looked so good, I thought condorstrike must have had it made up.

LOL enough about the logo, what about the homebrew guys? @Condorstrike You want me to send you the high resolution version. The one above is the web safe GIF version. The high res also has no background. @tthousand & @Dark_Killer Yes it's a modded logo. I always thought it would suite Condorstrike and imagined it on one of the spaceships in Solar. What you think Condorstrike?

Works great now! I can play my mp3s from my USB HDDs!!

Is there a way to hide the media bar?

I now can enjoy my Kraftwerk collection! To me, that's classical music!

Awesome Jay-Jay, I still gotta work on more MP3 functions, like select-able folder and files... and other things, but going with the whole LCD UI scheme, makes it complicated.

I'll also add auto-hide media bar...thanks for the feedback.

for some reason my mp3 files from my external still wont play - It's very possible I'm having a bit of a brain fart here but not entirely sure why they're not :0.

....and the dualshock controller vibrating all over the place, lol

I had to cut back the mp3 paths for this release.... I left it to find music in dev_usb/MUSIC folder.
I'm in the process of making Solar search for mp3 in multiple/any folder.

not at my ps3 at the minute but fairly sure that's where I have it (or at least a small selection as a sort of screensaver playlist) most of my music is just in my usb external folder as MUSIC though think that comes up as usb007 as I have to use a hub only having 2 usb ports on the front
even tried moving it around to other places but mind you multiman is also having issues with my music playing instead of the theme audio so it may be my external to be honest

      :0(

      hope not though

hmm, it shouldn't matter, I have it setup for any usb port, i think...
let me know, I'm curious about that....I gave away my nykon hub so i couldn't test it.

      ***edit***
found my other cheap, chinese hub, gonna test with that one.

i know i've got a fair amount of music in the folder and its in a USB007/MUSIC/Artist/Album/Track.mp3 structure if that makes any difference but did once try moving the entire folder elsewhere and just putting half a dozen individual mp3s inside the music folder on its own but didnt make any difference, will check again when I get home and see whats going on with it.

Just kept saying something along the lines of 'no playlist or usb disconnected', returned back to multiman and the music showed up and started playing in the background, loaded solar back up and no music again, lol

also tried copying about 5 files to the ps3 internal to see if it would work (though based on your usb lookup - that may explain why that didnt work)

cant remember what else I tried but if its working at your end can you tell me the folder structure and such just in case I've buggered something up

Its a bit odd as I dont usually have any problems with any packages :0.

EDIT ..... oh also tried uninstalling the older version of solar I had (no idea if that used to play music or not) and then installed this version

      bit baffled
