Sign Up for PSN Identity Theft Protection Now Available

Sony is finally allowing customers to sign up for identity theft protection via the AllClearID program, which is powered by Debix. Customers are receiving emails which contain instructions on how to redeem the protection program. "In order to be eligible, account holders must be residents of the United States with active accounts as of April 20, 2011" Interested account holders will need to submit their email address (the same email that was used in PSN account registration) to Sony via an online form located at http://us.playstation.com/news/consu...ft-protection/

Identity Theft Protection Offer for PlayStation®Network and Qriocity™ Customers

Sony Computer Entertainment and Sony Network Entertainment have made arrangements with Debix to offer AllClear ID PLUS to eligible PlayStation®Network and Qriocity account holders in the United States who are concerned about identity theft.

AllClear ID PLUS is a premium identity protection service that uses advanced technology to deliver alerts to help protect you from identity theft. The service also provides identity theft insurance coverage and hands-on help from expert fraud investigators.

Sony has arranged, at no charge to eligible PlayStation®Network and Qriocity account holders, for twelve months of this service to be provided by Debix to those who choose to enroll. In order to be eligible, account holders must be residents of the United States with active accounts as of April 20, 2011.

If interested, please submit your email address by June 28, 2011, at 11:59:59 PM CST at: us.playstation.com/news/consumeralerts/identity-theft-protection.

Please note, you must enter the same email address used to register your PlayStation®Network or Qriocity account. Once your email address is validated, you will be sent your AllClear ID PLUS activation code.

Well here's another one. In the UK their Fraud Protect 12 month offering is great, but one of the conditions is that they share all the information with Sony.

Kinda puts me off a bit, seeing as it completely misses the point by doing just that, because we all know your personal information will not be safe.

Here's an approach...

1. Cut your losses and ties with Sony (they're a dangerous and untrustworthy company)
2. Protect yourself by following up with your credit bureau
3. Sue Sony's A$$ off if any compromise of your information happens and is traced back.

Sony $ucks!

I find it interesting that I got the email regarding the protection service yet I have NEVER received an email from Sony stating the breech. Even though Sony states they contacted their customers.

mmm funny that after sony got hacked my email address i used for that account which i stupid had the same password for that email address and my psn got stollen

so yip sony this works because if its the same hacker that was trying to steal from my psn account or take it over now sony you have given him the chance to be more like me

so now if i ever get someone out there pretending to be me then that person has another ace up there sleeve now they can get that identity protection that was ment to go to me

so many companies trust that email addresses linked with there users accounts are always safe even forums do this and its stupid

yea i could go to there site and change my email address by o no wait thats compromised to

well done you get the worst company of the year trophy

Interesting, so the very person who stole your data can assume your identity and get free ID protection. I can see this becoming another Sony "epic fail" as it seriously screws up peoples lives.
