PSX-SCENE Forum Discussion for Sony PlayStation/PsOne/PS2/PS3/PSP/PS VITA
  • Showtime 3: Home Theater System

The developer of Showtime Home Theater System has updated his program to version 3. It will be awhile before Andreas Öman can address any problems, but in the meantime we can try out the new zoom feature.

So I've finally gotten around to releasing 3.0, go get it here

It's pretty much the same as in 2.99.534 except that you can now arbitrarily zoom the video via a setting in the popup menu.

I'm leaving on a vacation tomorrow and wont bring the PS3 with me so don't expect any (tested) PS3 features the next weeks. I will hopefully find time to do a bunch of other non-platform depended features though.
Once I get back I hope to address all aspects of audio on the PS3, in particular:
    •AV sync problems
    •Digital output
    •Volume control

    Have a nice summer!

Hey guys, just wanted to ask if this version addresses MKV playback from an External? I've only really checked out the , I think, second version released for PS3 and 720/1080 MKV + DTS was practically unplayable.

I was wondering if there is a patch or if this version will let you use a ntfs external drive. I've used my ntfs drive with mutliman so i'm hoping to see this feature for showtime!

      sweet... I love this version.

      - It now supports embedded fonts (ASS/SSA Subtitles)
      - Sweet, FULL Screen ;D

      Now the problem is:

      - CELL Decoder bug is in there again.

All i can is wow . A lot has changed in the UI , it's easier to configure everything
One thing it's lacking though is proper disc support
I tested some of my discs with avi and mpeg videos , they show up and play in the XMB but either they are not recognised by Showtime either the show up but when entering dev_bdvd the titles just dissapear from the list . Same with DVD-R discs that have MKV files on them .
This is an example of the error i got with MKV on disc .

Is 5.1 for FLAC working in this release or does it still downmix to 2 channel? Thanx.

It works if the sound output is by the HDMI.
There's still no support for 5.1 for Digital Output.

I've got a 1tb NAS drive on the network and Showtime reads it great! 720 and 1080 MKV files play perfect too! All that is missing now is video artwork. Once that is done it will be fantastic!

How did you get it to read the NAS?

This is probably because all BDVD drive access by homebrews is limited by GameOS restrictions.
Normally this only allows valid game discs to be read.

Media playing as done natively by the PS3 does not suffer GameOS restrictions, which is why this allows access to DVD and BD movie discs, even though we are unable to read these discs properly in File Managers/Browsers like that of multiMAN or Showtime, since they must run under GameOS.

      Best regards: dlanor

That NAS probably has a built-in uPnP/DLNA server.

Thanks for reply, it defo doesn't work for HDMI though, just output dolby digital 5.1 stream, but the actual audio is downmixed to 2 channel still, so your amp shows 5.1 but it isn't....

Could you confirm that is what you get? Thanx

What's the fastest way to get an MKV of 4GB+ to play on PS3 ? Showtime or not...
I don't want to stream it
I tried to run it from disc ..Showtime can't see the disc
Should i transcode it to MP4 or TS ? Which one keeps the subtitles loading ?
Or should i just transfer the MKV to internal HDD by FTP ?

Nice update, thanks Andreas. Only issues I have is as follows. Voice sync. (Usually fixed by skipping back and forth a little) Pause for long period the movie/player freezes. (Have to quite showtime or do a hard reset) Cannot read mkv off any disk.Skipping through a movie sometimes get a black screen with sound in the background or freeze. Once I was browsing through the HDD and Showtime froze, had to pull the power out the back to switch off the system, could not hard reset. (freaks me out when I have to do that)All of the above was with ver.2.99.534. Have a great holiday, cheers and thanks for one of the best homebrews around.
