  • ScummVM 1.4.1 "Subwoofer Release" - Point-and-Click Emulator

    The open source point-and-click emulator, ScummVM 1.4.1 "Subwoofer Release" has been, well, released for your Jailbroken PS3 enjoyment, by the good people over at ScummVM.org. The team have put together a big list of fixes for various games this application supports. The official announcement has been quoted below for you, along with the release notes and the PS3-specific Read Me file. For a copy of the source code, visit the downloads page.

    The ScummVM Team is pleased to announce ScummVM 1.4.1, a maintenance only release that fixes several bugs in 1.4.0.

    The most notable changes in this release are:
    • Support for the Beneath a Steel Sky Enhanced Soundtrack by James Wood****
    • Slight graphical improvement for the PlayStation version of Broken Sword 2
    • Several bugfixes for Lands of Lore
    • More logical sound settings for SCI games
    • A fixed crash in the VGA version of Quest for Glory 1

    The full list of changes can be found in the release notes and the release binaries for many platforms are located on our downloads page.

    Enjoy!

    ScummVM is a cross-platform interpreter for several point-and-click adventure engines. This includes all SCUMM-based adventures by LucasArts, Simon the Sorcerer 1&2 by AdventureSoft, Beneath a Steel Sky and Broken Sword 1&2 by Revolution, and many more.

    Read Me - PS3:
    Code:
    Prerequisites
    =============
    - A homebrew enabled PlayStation 3 console. As of now that mostly means having a custom firmware installed. Obtaining and installing such a software is out of the scope of this document. Sorry, but you're on your own for that one.
    - At least one ScummVM supported game. The list of compatible games can be seen here: http://www.scummvm.org/compatibility/
    The page http://wiki.scummvm.org/index.php/Where_to_get_the_games references some places where those games can be bought. Demonstration versions for most of the supported games are downloadable on http://scummvm.org/demos/
    - An USB drive.

    Installing
    ==========
    From a computer, download the installable package of the PS3 port from ScummVM's main site. It should be a .pkg file. Copy it to an USB drive.
    After having plugged the USB drive to you PS3, the installation package should appear in the XMB under the "Games > Install Package" menu. Installing it copies ScummVM and its dependencies to your PS3's hard drive. It also adds the "Games > PlayStation 3 > ScummVM" XMB entry which is to be used to launch ScummVM.

    Configuring and playing games
    =============================
    The user manual describes how to add games to ScummVM and launch them : http://wiki.scummvm.org/index.php/User_Manual

    PlayStation 3 Specifics
    =======================
    Games can be launched either from an USB drive or from the internal hard drive. The internal hard drive has better performance though.
    Savegames are wrote in the /hdd0/game/SCUM12000/saves folder.

    Joypad button mapping
    =====================
    - Left stick => Mouse
    - Cross => Left mouse button
    - Circle => Right mouse button
    - Triangle   => Game menu (F5)
    - Square     => Escape
    - Start => ScummVM's in global game menu
    - Select => Toggle virtual keyboard
    - L1         => AGI predictive input dialog

    Disclaimer
    ==========
    Unauthorized distribution of an installable package with non freeware games included is a violation of the copyright law and is as such forbidden.

    Building from source
    ====================
    This port of ScummVM to the PS3 is based on SDL. It uses the open source SDK PSL1GHT.

    The dependencies needed to build it are :

    - The toolchain from https://github.com/ps3dev/ps3toolchain
    - SDL from https://github.com/zeldin/SDL_PSL1GHT
    - ScummVM from https://github.com/scummvm/scummvm

    Once all the dependencies are correctly setup, an installable package can be obtained from source by issuing the following command :

    ./configure --host=ps3 && make ps3pkg

      I get voices and music but a horrible screeching at the start of the game and during cutscenes. It sucks cuz it's one of my favorite games ever. What version do you have? I know of at least 4 different Discworld CD versions including 1 with enhanced audio. You may just have to try to find a different one

      sounds like you have v1. I haven't tried the enhanced audio (OGM) files yet. You can find it in most ScummVM torrents

      let me know if you manage to get it working correctly. Also the other versions are on some well known rom websites. Sorry, I can't just link you to them, but they're not hard to find and they're not megaupload. They're privately hosted. If you have ScummVM on your PC, then you can test it easier there. When you point it to your directory, it will change what it says in the description I think from v1 to v2, etc. More info about the other versions is on the ScummVM website
