Apparenlty, there is a report that a new PS3 Drive Emulation hack will be available later this year; without the need of CFW or a
Dongle. It seems some new team has cracked Sony's PCB, and will be able to clone it along with adding the ability to play backups similar to the Wasabi360 or Xkey for the Xbox360. It is said they are keeping the project as secret as possible until they are able to release it, as to not give Sony(PlayStation) the opportunity to patch the exploit.
No hacking , no flashing , no modding.
Emulation is the future. A team is currently working on a new hack for the Playstation3.
The blueray player, Sony's PCB has been cracked and costs can thus be cloned. The team probably Wasabi or Wiikey team is currently working on this for the board to connect to an external HDD. This can be downloaded games played as Wasabi360 and Xkey for the Xbox360.
A major retailer in China has also indicated that this year is released.

tthousands tthoughts - Sony has not gone after Cobra or True Blue dongles makers, at least to the best of my knowledge. I wonder if they will go after this new team full force. It has been a shame to see the lengths Sony has gone to in attempts to persecute these developers deemed hackers; just look at the geohot BS trial, and the horrible treatment they gave to graf_chokolo. It seems not everyone has been scared off by their tactics, and we can only hope that this news is real and not a rumor.
Again, I would like to state that this is a
RUMOR. This is GaryOPA's response to this (thanks to bitsbubba for sending me the

Yes, this story has been going around mad on all the other 'scene' sites as RUMOR and 'front-paged'
Reasons it is NOT on Crunch is the following:
#1 - ChinaDistub is NOT involved in this, and never had any contact with source of this rumor
#2 - Cobra is not involved
#3 - True Blue is not involved
#4 - Wasabi360 is not involved
#5 - Tons of other known developers in both 360 and PS3 scene are NOT involved
#6 - The original source is 'big dutch retailer' BUT with a BAD NAME, horrible track record, know to scam its customers
#7 - The pictures are clearly nothing important, no proof that the 'blu-ray' drive been cracked at all.
I could go on and on, but it not even a good solid rumor, almost as bad as one claiming the Xbox 720 has 16 core CPU in it!
Well, you live and you learn. In other words, no sense in sitting around waiting, but it will be interesting to see if anything ever comes of this. As the saying goes, if it sounds to good to be true it probably is not.
