Rumor: Could This Be It? FEB 20 Announcement By Sony

Referring to my previous article regarding Sony's teaser video for 20 February comes a recent patent that might shed some light on Sony's intent. From the sources below one could assume that the announcement revolves, as many here at psx-scene did predict, around the release of a new model of the PS Vita. The Vita in question could be a 4G model that surpasses the rather 'outdated' 3G model. Not only that but you could see a purchase price of the upgraded PS Vita similar to current Vita price ranges. This also includes updates to accommodate user requests and a price cut to memory cards. Time will only tell.

About PS Vita Rumor:

A new 4G LTE model of the PlayStation Vita will be replacing the 3G model sometime this year. According to the source, this will be the so-called “price drop” that has been rumored for the Vita as the new model will retain the $299 price point for an upgraded system.
The Wi-Fi version will still be available on the market for $249
To go along with the 4G model, a significant firmware update will go live bringing in a lot of requested features including new ways to organize apps in folders.
The new model may be unveiled along with the rumored PS4 this month at PlayStation’s February 20th event or at E3, but will not hit the market until later in the year.
A price cut on memory cards will be made. No details on prices.

This is exactly what the Vita dev unit looks like, i was hoping they would come out with a retail unit with the slim size of the dev unit and hopefully hdmi out as well.

Well, it`s a good thing I haven`t buy a Vita yet, I am just hoping these new models will supports homebrew as well, even if the don`t, the I`ll be able to get a cheaper old model vita

Who said that? There definitely will be a PS4 ( or whatever they decide to name it) whether or not this will be when they announce it is the question.

$ony is facing RED numbers for years now, if they trully plan to release a PS4 it could be a suicide.

No, they said,"The new model may be unveiled along with the rumored PS4 this month".

I hope they drop the Vita memory card prices. They are just outrageous. They also need to add a mini HDMI port for TV output. I would consider getting another if it had these options and the 4G LTE.

something just doesn't click for me anymore with portable gaming since it's become console like. there's no like art it seems anymore being put into games, just ports. i mean, you look at thps2-4 on gba and stuff and it's like incredible what they did. pokemon games were like made for portable gaming and really sucked you in... psp was really awesome cause it kinda started it but now...eh. i'd rather be at home on a couch than playing for an hour or so traveling

i mean, i guess if you stay at hotels or with friends a lot then it's useful, but the latter doesn't happen a lot anymore since i'm out of high school and the former never happens

It's been reported that Microsoft was in the red for about one billion dollars on the original XBox, but the 360 has been wildly profitable.

Have you tried a vita? It really is a awesome system, far better than the psp. I didn't like the psp so much and without cfw I probably wouldn't have ever owned one. The Vita feels and plays good, and has nice games you would be happy to own one without any modification.

One bad console release wont end sony, your right they do have the money, let us not forget the gaming isn't sony's only forte, and the blueray proves that. Yeah xbox got a head start on sony with better online service, price point, and devs backing them, BUT that's not so much the case anymore as sony price point has dropped, online features have gotten better, and people are starting to see longevity of the playstation system.

To be honest I really like playstations FREE online features, a playstation plus over xboxlive at this point any day. If it wasn't for having a jtag, and rgh hacks the ps3 would be my number 1 go to system.

Vita has only boring games. Maybe 3 or 4 are playable.
The browser sucks and is realy Slow. If this is the only announcement
an 4G Vita it will be disappointing

sony may be losing money, but its not due to the video game side of things in fact the playstation division was the only one actually making a profit. So it would be suicide NOT to release a PS4

Anyway, I'm NOT getting one even if it were FREE, and yes I'm not kidding. PS3 was my last console of all time, and I'm not alone.
