Are you ready for this; you might want to sit down... Oh wait, you are siting down; well then, get ready to live! Some major news today from the PC emulator scene, as the "PS3 emulator", aka rpcs3, is now more functional than ever before; adding to it the ability to run small homebrew titles. Now, in NO WAY IS THIS A FULL PS3 EMULATOR, but with the way technology increases... I would say it should not be too long hopfully. But in the meantime, I hope the PS3 scene developers really enjoy this release!

About rpcs3 SVN r43:

rpcs3 SVN r43 is compiled. rpcs3 is an open source PlayStation 3 (PS3) emulator for the Microsoft Windows. Current versions can run only small homebrew for PS3. Developers are planning to make it to emulate PS3 on its speed in the near future.

rpcs3 purpose:
- Make PS3 developers easily test their apps and homebrews on PC without crashing their PS3 or moving their apps from PC to PS3.
- Just playing PS3 games on your PC and have fun! ( In the future )

- Emulated more PPU / SPU instructions.
- Fixed some PPU syscalls.
- Fixed issue 4.
- Improved CompilerELF.

I cannot imagine the specs a computer would need to emulate the ps3 with everything correctly , this is a great start maybe we will have pcs capable of full emulation by the time this emulator is capable of doing such.

might help to make sure certain apps boot and what not. hopefully it helps with a certain emulator getting tested out

great progress, sadly none of my apps load on it...haven't tried others, except the built in samples... I guess the nfo says it all, can only run small apps, but I'm very happy that they got it to work, thumbs up.

i doubt pc architecture will catch up with ps3 in reasonable time.

it's most likely not going to be possible with classic cpu's - only a similar architecture to ps3 could pull it off.

Interesting. Pity about your homebrew not working condorstrike. Would be great when this gets improved for developers to test homebrew.

I didn't mean within the year... I meant more like 2 or 3 years.

And also, seeing as these guys are trying to cater to the devs... perhaps more devs will get into the action and further progress the action.

well, i meant something like 5-10 years. unless someone manages to put GPU's as computational units to do some serious work (that might help a lot due to design similarity to SPE's).
