  • Rogero Releases CEX 4.30 v2.03 Custom Firmware - Restores Install PKG Files Function

Rogero returns with another update to his 4.30 custom firmware for CEX consoles. If you thought that his firmware took a bad turn when the Install Package Files functionality was removed, then you might want to take that back. With this update, Rogero has reimplemented the function which works better than the original. Not only that, Rogero has squashed the bugs that were present in previous releases of his custom firmware

Rogero CEX 4.30 CFW v2.03 Changelog:

    • Rebuilt from scratch using OFW4.30 files only (no DEX/SEX files) with official XMB and full features working as in OFW4.30
    • All known problems like XMB icons sorting and Demo Mode issues from previous versions are now gone with the use of the official XMB.
    • New Improved "Install Package Files" Application added to XMB instead of using the traditional DEX Icon, to have a 100% original XMB.
      • [* Install Package Files] function supports:
        • up to 256 pkg files
        • split pkg files
        • sorting
        • queued PKG indication (in red)
        • multipart (split) PKG indication (in yellow)
        • copy/transfer progress
        • Scanned locations: /dev_usb*** /dev_hdd0 /dev_bdvd in /PKG /packages and root folders
        • Split files format: .0 - .63 / .66600 - .66663 / .001 - .064

      • CFW Structure fixed to match the OFW 4.xx Structure:
        • No more corrupted data error messages while Installing from XMB or Recovery Menu.
        • The CFW can be installed fine from XMB Update over any OFW3.55/CFW3.55/CFW4.21/CFW4.30.
        • HDD can be swapped/changed and the CFW4.30 v2.03 will re-install without any problem.

    • Patched LV1 to disable LV2 Protection.
    • Patched LV1 to add peek/poke support to replace hvc 182/183 (multiMAN Direct Disc Access is now working fine with CFW4.30 v2.03)
    • Patched LV1 to disable SYSTEM MANAGER INTEGRITY CHECK (to prevent Bricking on non-dehashed downgraded consoles)
    • Patched LV1 Core OS Hash Check (to prevent Bricking on non-dehashed downgraded consoles)
    • The CFW can be used directly for Downgrading with Hardware flashers /Flashing from FSM/Exiting from FSM, all works fine.
    • Patched LV2 to add peek/poke support. (for both LV1 and LV2)
    • Patched VSH to enable ReActPSN compatibility (Allow Unsigned act.dat and *.rif files, Disable Unlinking/Deleting of act.dat)
    • Spoofed the system version to latest OFW version 4.31.
    • PSN/SEN access is available as long as the current "passphrase" still the same.
    • Loading games from App_home Icon is now fixed.
    • It can run games signed with Keys up to version 4.30 without any Eboot/Sprx patching needed
    • Games can be loaded from Disc Icon (with Original game in BD) and from app_home (Disc-less, but not all games).
    • Current 3.55 homebrew applications can't be loaded on this CFW, applications must be re-signed properly for FW4.21/4.30
As always, here are some guidelines from Rogero that you should follow when updating to a new firmware:

    • Always make a NOR/Nand dump using multiMAN before installing any CFW to have a recovery backup in case of any bricks.
    • Having a valid NOR/Nand dump is an essential step before upgrading, because you will always have a chance to recover when you have a valid dump.
      • A Hardware Flasher alone without a valid dump may not fix your bricked PS3 **

    • The QA flag is better to be always Enabled on your PS3 for safer upgrading/downgrading operations. Link ----> toggle_qa.pkg
    • Please Check the MD5 of the downloaded PUP file before installing any CFW to avoid possible bricks.
    • DO NOT HAVE DISC IN PS3 WHEN UPDATING FIRMWARES..As the PS3 will take the UPDATE from the DISC First. You need to be already on a 3.55OFW or 3.55CFW/4.21CFW/4.30CFW to install this. Installing from any OFW > 3.55 won't work. (Hardware Flasher needed)

In Addition, this release has been tested and can be installed from the XMB if that is your preferred method of updating.

Because the indicator for queueing (X) is still available and it crashes the system.

Well that some some QA action right before our eyes there fellas

It obviously seems like a bug. On this occasion a certain amount of 'user awareness' needs to come into play tho, no packages then don't press install, but I think it's best pointed out more towards deank as it is his installer that rogero is using. Wouldn't hurt to make him aware of this tho.

      All the best

@dmr2 - MAny thanks for that info. I wasn't aware of that. I had read about it been included but obviously missed the update regarding it's non inclusion in this CFW.

I swore that I wouldn't update my CFW console while traveling but the recent updates from deank and now this.............

      Soooo tempting!

Two more weeks and I'll be back home for a month our so. That should give this enough time to be tested pretty well.

I hope Rogero would take back the old install package files in the XMB just like in kmeaw 3.55. It's less hassle and faster access to .pkg files.

Without your hard work and perseverance i believe the scene may still be in the dark ages of CFW. I sit in shadows, post hardly ever and enjoy the fruits of your labors. I greatly enjoy MM and Rogero's CFW. Many THANKS!

yes mM and the XMB [* Install Package Files] both deletes the original package files after you install them from the Bubbles, the same way the original PSN packages does it after installation of a downloadable content.

      Cheers

You're welcome my friend, I'm glad we could make it so far, a lot have been done to bring this CFW to where it is now.

I messed up really bad I think I bricked my PS3(CECH-2011A). Tried to update from kmeaw 3.55 as follow:

      1) downloaded PUP and checked MD5
      2) installed REBUG-TOOLBOX-02.00.00 to enabled QA flag
      3) applied the key combo and worked
      4) copied PUP to usb and renamed it
      5) began installation from XMB and froze reaching 99%

I have no idea what happened, everything was going smooth till then, I didn't make NOR/Nand dump and there was no disc in the reader. It's been like that for about a few hours, and I know as soon as I turn it of, that's gonna be it.

Perhaps not desintalling the spoof had something to do with it, I had thought about it, but completely forgot went it really matter.

Maybe someone has and idea what happened to me and can warn others.

Yeah, sounds like you bricked. There's a reason that instructions are all over the place on this site. Even in the article it tells you to make a NOR/NAND dump through multiMAN so you can recover. Leave it alone until morning. If it's still stuck you'll have to cut the power and pray that you can get into recovery menu to reinstall a CFW.

I feel for you man. The first version of Rogero bricked mine too. It cost me almost $150 to buy all the stuff needed to unbrick it. But these things can happen even when installing official firmware

Hi, I'm on Rogero 4.30 v1 - i updated this directly from 3.55 kmeaw without knowing about toggle qa or what it does! How would i know if i need to toggle qa before i update to the latest version above? Also i never did a nor/band dump as well.

All games I've tested are working fine on v1, but will this allow me to play online without any issue? Also, is it ok to create a new psn account?

Sorry if i sound like a noob!

Many thanks to Rogero for his hard work!

You won't believe this BahamutLord. I got up and it was still frozen, I shut it down holding the power button, and then tried to go to recovery menu holding the power button. To my surprise, the instalation processes started again and finished without a problem. I am now on Rogero 4.30 V 2.03. (sigh)
