  • RetroArch Multi-System Emulator v0.9.8.3 Released

RetroArch's Developers / libretro Contributors have been hard at work improving the Multi-System Emulator. Since its debut it has expanded in supporting more platforms as well as bringing additional cores to the emulator. Today Themaister & PS3 Developer Sqaurepusher/Twin Aphex has released RetroArch v0.9.8.3 for the PS3. There are some changes/additions to the FBA, SNES9x Next & Genesis Plus GX Cores. Also, The Save Preset has been fixed. Plus many more changes you can view below in the PS3 change log from v0.9.8.3 release tpday.

Updates where also pushed for the Xbox 360, Wii & Android RetroArch ports. Xbox and Gamecube updates will come later.
Update: Opuim2k has made me aware of a user by the name of box on the RetroArch Forums who has posted some very nice overlays for the Android ports of RetroArch. Here is the link for anyone interested.

    PS3 Change log:
    [FBA core] Various changes/fixes
    - Hook up Armed Police Batrider controls
    - Afterburner - make fire buttons work
    - Hook up Bad Dudes controls
    - Hook up Cyberbots controls
    - Hook up 1942 controls
    - Add missing Chase HQ controls
    - Add missing WWF Wrestlefest controls
    - EEPROM save should now work (tested with EEPROM-based system such as Capcom CPS2)
    - Samples are now looked for - should be in 'samples' subdirectory
    - Hiscore files should now be read from/written to.
[SNES9x Next] Added big speed hack for Star Fox 1 - makes it fast enough for it to run at fullspeed on the Wii.
[Genesis Plus GX] Set samplerate back to 44Khz.
[CONSOLES] Audio resampler is now adjustable - can choose between Sinc resampler (new) and Hermite resampler (old). Sinc is now selected by default, is superior audio-quality wise and will fix a lot of sound issues.
    [PS3] Save Preset fixed
[PS3] Starting with Dual Shader/Custom Scaling mode OFF and then turning it ON works now

true, stella for one, it was getting good for the ps3 then just kind of dropped, lets add the 2600's arch nemesis to the list, intellivision, lol

I've just tried RA 0.9.8.3 with latest MM 4.19.07 and all my retro games worked fine from MultiMan.
BTW I don't use net server...

Hmm Atari 2600 on RetroArch.. : Well maybe today is your lucky day!

Stella Atari 2600 libretro Core for RetroArch

This was compiled from the official Libretro Git.
      https://github.com/libretro/stella-libretro

This is an Unofficial Compile. It is buggy and experimental.

DO NOT complain to the official RetroArch Developers of any issues. As this is an unofficial release.

The buttons vary from game to game. I have been messing with this off and on for a couple weeks now and every game behaves a bit different

Some games when you enter the menu will goto black and white but L3 will switch the color back. Some games wont do this at all... Its buggy and experimental but there is some great retro play

      Saving/Loading doesn't work either,

Place this .SELF file with your other libretro cores in RetroArch.
      dev_hdd0/games/SSNE1000/USRDIR/cores/

Thanks goes out to the the RetroArch Developers and to the person who compiled and shared this with all. (you know who you are)

Hmmm, thanks STLcards, i will definitely try it, ......do you know what version of stella this was made from, stella stopped at 3.3 rev3 years ago i think, is this higher?

good question i would suspect it would be that but i dont recall i know it shows on the RA menu when you load the core.

was ok, but last stella had bugs, like not going back to the rom choice page and just freezing if u tried, maybe choosing the rom itself from the retro section will help that, either way, long live 2600 space invaders lol.......someone should pick up the development of this....

i just had an idea that could be cool but since i'm not very technical, i could see it not being possible. anyways, adding widescreen to the emulators kind of like how people did it for ps2 games. i used to use it on an n64 emulator a while back to some success; idk if it was the emu or the games that sometimes wouldn't like it.

anyways, i think it'd make things pretty nice and i don't think it'd be too stressful on the system to make it emulate that much more of the screen.

The only reason this was possible on the PS2 and N64 emus is because the widescreen aspect ratio coding already existed in the games themselves, because they were being coded after Widescreen TVs hit the market. (It wasn't until DVD became the home video standard that 720x480 became the default NTSC aspect ratio.)

The older game systems never had those resolutions available to them, so it doesn't exist in the game code. You would need to reprogram the whole game in order to do this.

damn...is that why some n64 games wouldn't work when it tried to make them widescreen?

what about psx games? some of them had a widescreen option. idk...i just thought maybe it would be possible to have it emulate more edges of the screen especially for like sonic and rpg's where the screen just seems to scroll or other games where enemies are placed in a certain spot.
