  • released! Gitbrew PS3 Brick Fix for 3.55

The guys over at gitbrew have made the following announcement regarding a PS3 Brick Fix. Be sure to read all of the details carefully.

    Quoting the gitbrew website:

This is a beta tool. It has only be tested on otheros++ nand bricks and some pup updater file errors.
This hasn't been 100% tested, though we're looking for people to try it to see what bricks it will actually fix.

    Tutorial
    1. Put both files into the root directory of a flash drive.
    2. Put the dongle into the ps3 while it is off and start it.
    3. If the flash drive is activated it can be fixed using this.
    4. If it however does not, the only fix for it until a software side is found is a hardware flasher.

    Lv2diag.self
    PS3UPDAT.PUP

Please note this will ONLY work on 3.55 and lower, and in only a small amount of cases.

USB ports don't work with a "Wanky" brick (only MS PRO Duo slot) but don't let me keep you from trying!!

Confirmed that it doesn't work with the Waninkoko-brick (via USB). Unfortunately I have a 40GB so I can't test it with the MS reader.
Have to wait till a (simple) hardware flasher.

Considering that they do not mention unplug then plug in the ps3 nor do they mention power eject I doubt that they meant "dongle" I beleve they meant flash drive.
If they do mean dongle then this method has been known since the 3.55 downgrade came out, If they meant usb stick then like I said the real "information" is that the ps3 puts its self into service mode when its bricked.

099F33A7967F99E91C07E870FD78B3DB md5 of lv2diag from cex-dex, I haven't checked the origional downgrade lv2diag but from memory the file size should be the same.

Can someone aware me on what a wanky brick is? It sounds very bad and I in no way want my systems to get this. So not even usb ports work if you get a wanky brick? WOW.

wannankoko was the first to make a level 1 and 2 patched (ps3 backup manager ready) cfw but this firmware bricked all ps3's that had nand flash which were the first models later model fats and slims use nor which didn't brick and why people recomend kmeaw because its stable.

This will not work on a Waninkoko brick via MS PRO Duo slot, if it's trying to read something there it's not these files

does anyone know of any filenames that service mode will run besides lv2diag.self? lv1diag.self maybe? reboot.self?

So has anyone tried it on a Red Screen of Death system yet? I don't think it would work, but at my shop we have a few, and it would be pretty awesome to get them running again. I guess I can try on Tuesday when I go back.

I'm hoping the same, but the PS3 I'm trying to revive is on the latest FW (3.73) so I'm screwed. Hope they figure out a way for newer firmwares with this method. Please report back if you succeed with any of your Red screens.

I don't know what this is supposed to accomplish. If the lv2diag.self is different from the other two downgrader files out there, I can't tell.It did nothing for my RSoD.Basic procedure, put your PS3 into Factory Mode and use these files to flash OFW 3.55.I was hoping this flash program did something different, since none of the downgrader flashes have completed without errors on my RSoD Fat PS3.

Yeah I don't have much hope for these consoles. The weird thing is you can completely restore/update the firmware on them (they may actually be on 3.60 now that I think about it - even more hopeless), but then they boot to the RSoD. And yes, I have tried different HDDs, which does fix the RSoD on occasion.

Worked for me! I had (semi?) bricked ps3 with 256Mb nand (wanink v1 CFW) My ps3 would shut itself off like in 5 secs. Also had BD problems, i thought my bd logic board was broken but it works now. I went thru service mode and pressed system update Thanks to Gitbrew from Finland!
