Recover Blu Ray Playback - Phat 256mb NAND Consoles

Resident of PSX-Scene, Mark Webber, has released the information needed to restore lost Blu Ray playback functionality on consoles which lost this ability, I.E. Phat Consoles with 256mb NANDs that were downgraded using the Service Mode method. If your Phat console has lost Blu Ray playback, you can now use this easy method to to re-enable the lost feature.

Ok, so finally....
How To Recover BD Playback On 256meg Fats

You will need to QA flag your PS3
IF you are on 3.55: Using the special 3.55 downgrade PUP by Jaicrab, then down again to 3.15 or 3.41 using stock PUP files

Follow this guide to QA flag your PS3

(i.e 3.55 CFW > Otheros++ > QA Flag > 3.55 CFW )

|Requirements| instalation instructions|

PS3 on OtherOS++ 3.55 CFW PUP

rename it to PS3UPDAT.PUP

install the firmware

QA Auto Flag .PKG

install the qa_flag.pkg

then run the qa_flag program

if you hear a beep, it worked.

restart ps3
Go to network settings (Do not enter it) and hit or hold L1+L2+L3+R1+R2+down on the dpad

QA auto flagging is now done

Turn on the 'system update debug' in the debug settings

Play a BD disc with the highest MKB version you can get..Latest release from Blockbuster or whatever.

Note: It may start to play and then you get no video output to the tv.This happened a few times to me. Just power off, accept the "naughty boy" messgage from Sony and try again until it plays. If it keeps doing this, you need to change to AV or component leads since your TV seems to not be 100% HDMI/BD compliant.

I have tested this on several (at least 5) PS3's with 100% success rate.

NO WAY. Seriously guys? this was resolved 9 months ago by #PS3Bluray. (of course assrod stole a partial solution and leaked it for his own glory) Google: DRLBackup, DRLGen, and DRLCopy... (collectively known as DRLtools)

STFU, You are not in high standing with me in the first place. NFW... try doing something other than clicking buttons with other peoples work.

It may start to play and then you get no video output to the tv.This happened a few times to me. Just power off, accept the "naughty boy" messgage from Sony and try again until it plays.

Trying again if it doesn't work is NOT a method. Especially since this does absolutely NOTHING to replace the DRL files that were deleted in the downgrade process erroniously. (and do not seem to be replaced, though they should from the AACS specs)

Technically, people in PS3MFW (and the people who contributed tasks to it) already *DID*. I'm not getting in a flaming match with you bittsbubba. You've always been polite in your PM's to me for help and I've always helped you... so back off.

The fact remains, that if you knew anything about WHY the broken bluray happened... you'd know this try this and if it doesn't work reboot. "easier method" doesn't work.

You hit me in an already agitated state by me being a bit miffed that the contest rules were so lame to include people creating things with publicly available tools. Not your fault. And then by jumping in on the correction I made that this "method" won't possibly fix the fact that the DRL files in /dev_flash3/data-revoke/drl were deleted as part of the downgrade. (and despite it being a part of the spec, they were not re-created.) I mean seriously, the method literally says try XYZ, if it doesn't work power off and try again. That's just a recipe for people to feel like they are doing something wrong.

Lastly, has anyone STILL got this problem and not fixed it?

This method makes a 256meg behave in the same fashion as a 16meg - Where the ONLY reason they did not lose the ability to play back BluRays is the fact the DRL/HRL check is NEVER performed.
Test it out, put any old DRL on your machine and watch it play.
On a 256Meg unit, if you either have no idea what BluRay had the highest MKB version that updated both the DRL/HRL you were shit out of luck.
OR if you had a PS3 with a broken board and changed said board to one from ebay or wherever, how the hell could you know what the matching DRL files are.

Again, this method is nothing to do with any previous method, it just fools the PS3 so you can watch movies.
The last section of turning it on/off is rare and only happens a few times IF after the disc begins to play you lose video output to the TV.
Again, this is ONLY until the first disc plays the FIRST movie you are using to sort the issue...

First, yes, if you click on a single button in PS3MFW you can generate the same thing that you have released as your own work.
Secondly, when I released PS3MFW, I specifically requested that NOBODY ever releases a .PUP generated by ps3mfw.. if people are to install p3mfw-generated pup files, then they should generate them themselves. I even fought with some idiots who didn't think my opinion meant anything (even though I founded the project). Just take from others and not give back, way to go community!
Third, What you released (and got money from on top of that) was illegal, I wrote PS3MFW (with an0nym0us) for the sole purpose of having a legal way of creating custom firmwares, you download the official PUP that sony provides, and you modify it locally. You are not authorized to distribute that PUP because you are not the copyright owner of that firmware, and you cannot distribute a modified version of it legally either.
Fourth, IF you actually had anything resembling a brain and that you did in fact create something yourself, in other words, you had your own custom tasks that you used with PS3MFW which makes your 'NFW' somehow 'unique', then you are again a real virus, a cancer to the scene, because you have not read nor respected the copyright license of PS3MFW which is GPL, and which means that ANY tasks written for it MUST also be released under the GPL license. I have not seen you send any patches to the PS3MFW project, and have not seen you release any ps3mfw tasks under the GPL license, so you are infringing on our GPL license.
Finally, you used other's work, used none of your own skills and tried to make a name for yourself without doing things the right way, without respecting other's work, you are a leech, you are a cancer in the scene, and your name is not worth mentioning.

For all these reason, you deserve absolutely no respect from me, from CrashSerious, or from anyone for that matter, and if I were you (i.e. if I had no integrity), I would honestly shut up, crawl back into the hole I came from, and try to live my life with at least a minimum of self respect.
As such, I would kindly ask you to STFU, and that when people tell you to STFU, that you actually do it instead of "taking offense", because you of all people, know that you deserve it, and you have no right to argue with anyone who is clearly, mentally superior to you (or at least, has more integrity than you do).

p.s: You took 250$ from that stupid contest for this 'work' that you've 'done' (poor little baby, you probably bruised your finger after you clicked that button), and even after being asked to give that money to the people who actually deserve it (humblehomebrew (or its charity), the graf_chokolo defense fund, or the actual developers of the PS3MFW project who allowed you to 'win' that money), you didn't do nothing. On top of that, you go make an 'interview' (as if you were some hotshot developer), and you failed to even mention or thank the developers who actually sacrificied months of their lives to write the tool you just clicked on.
Remember, clicking on a button does not make you a developer, it only makes an end user, like the thousands out there... and trying to look like a dev for it doesn't make you a dev either, it just makes you a jerk.

Now go STFU and run into hiding.

Mark, the DRL is simply a portion of the MKB on the disk. IIRC, (and it's been a while since I looked at the source of DRLGen) the MKB is version-ed and the Drive Revocation List and Host Revocation List are unique to a particular version of the MKB. The MKB is on the disk itself (i forget what file, but it's in the source linked to below) (BTW... linked to and released for the first time HERE on psx-scene. The only site that snubbed the entire project.). At any rate, we tried copying any DRL file in, and that doesn't work. you have to have any old DRL that is the same version as teh HRL and what is on the bluray drive. (it gets updated when you play a newer version disk)

DRLGen Source: Multiupload.com - upload your files to multiple file hosting sites! (Released under the GPL v3 license. for anyone to learn from, and I haven't touched it in months. Comments are sparse... sorry. And for ease of development and quick release, it's written in VB.Net.)

I am well aware of how it all works. Believe me, I have spent hundreds of hours looking into it.
The 16meg when you downgrade using "Service Mode" does the EXACT same as the 256Meg.
The DRL is overwritten using a version 1 DRL.

It is ONLY the 256Meg PS3's that pay any attention to it.
After downgrading a 16Meg, the first disc you put into the PS3 will update the DRL, but the HRL on the drive in 16Meg PS3's never updates.
I have read the MX chip from many drives. It is ALWAYS a version 1 HRL stored on the drive even if the DRL is much higher.

Edit: The last line implies from a 16Meg PS3
Edit 2: Because the original problem ONLY happened to 256Meg PS3's, that was all they looked at.
I on the other hand went after the 16Meg to figure out why it did not suffer the same fate as it's older brother.

I basically asked a few questions in the #ps3bluray chat room, tried some things on my own, and deduced that the problem could be solved if you knew which bluray updated your DRL files. Then I made a web page to help some people out by building a catalog of DRL's while you guys sat and argued about how much cooler your solution would be, and how much of a thief that I was. In my opinion I didn't really steal anything, but everyone has their own take on it. Silly to hold grudges this long. My attention span has shifted away from the PS3(just chuckled when I saw this in my RSS feed), so I doubt you will have to worry about me "stealing" anything else from you.
