PSX-SCENE members, we need your help! A former Sony employee who created Linux for the PS2 is looking for signatures for his petition for the release of PS2 Linux Packages and Website Archives by Sony! When we first reported this, evilgeek23 had already been petitioning for a month. Within ten days of being on our front page, he received more than double the signatures he'd already had. With our support, he can continue to keep that number rising, and continue to make a difference.

Please help out a developer, and also member of our site, evilgeek23. He requires support like ours more than ever to achieve his dreams of Official Linux Support on the PS2. Please read our last official statement.

The PS2-Scene is NOT dead and it seems, as if there is still a growing demand for PS2-Homebrew & Applications (because of the influx of users coming to the overall console-modding-scene). Another news besides the PS2ESDL-Article I posted is this:
PSX-Scene-Member 'evilgeek23' started a petition to give us some more Linux-Stuff back on the old PS2!

The story:

Last year, Sony closed down the website PlayStation2-Linux.com , but promised to create an archive, including all the linux-software... But as we all know,... (or at least those which are interested in it) Sony hasn't done that yet!

A few days ago 'evilgeek23' finally started a petition to get exactly this. Now people... Guess what happened, after a few hours after he had set this petition up? The 'place-holder' of playstation2-linux.com went back up and at least you can reach the site, where you couldn't even connect to it before...

Here's a PM I received from him:

I created this petition and I would have no problem if it is published along with my name on the front page.

My name is Matt Aves and I was a PS2 modder and PS3 Beta release patcher. I had worked at Sony till 6 years ago.

I used to develop the PS2 linux platform over at Sony around 2001, and it has a soft spot in my heart.
When I left in 2006, all responsibility was shifted to Sarah Lemarie ( nice woman and programmer ).
I had some contacts back at SCEE who left in 2008, and in 2009-2010 the site was shut down without the archive being posted.

So now I am requesting SCEE and the new CEO to post the archive.

Again, I want to say thanks to TnA for writing this and SkyNet for helping out greatly! And of course, evilgeek23!

I am going to sign this right now (even though there is other stuff I could be doing, because the members of psx-scene have done so much for us, that any way I can give back, I am more then happy to do so) and everyone else who reads this article should do the same.

Drop what you are doing, and prove that the small people still stand a chance in this world

Old news. I signed this on 7/06/11. And yet solderless dual NAND does not get front paged.

No disrespect man. Was just a statement. (It was news in June [not this site I think]) And I don't wear panties but I do enjoy taking them off the girlies. And to all that have not signed! Sign now, now, now! (Only 151 sigs )

No offense either, I was just joking. I have been without internet for a week, and on the road for 12 hours today. I am running on fumes right now. I probably took what you were saying out of context. And infact, probably do not even know what this solderless dual NAND is you speak of yet

But yes, PSX-SCNE, and most of all PSX-SCENE lurkers, help out, it only takes a second of your time. Support your community.Everyone else, keep on bumping the threads?

Performance wise, how did the ps2 run on linux? Does it have similar drawbacks like the ps3 running it? Never tried linux on a ps2 before...

It's an 11 year old game console, with a 300 mhz cpu, and 32 mb of ram.

when you say it was "released" do you mean launched at all or was the PS2 linux kit actually released after the official launch?

another good question (just a general question) i have always wanted to run the official PS2 linux distro but have never installed a chip in my PS2, is there a way to merge the 2 discs together so the check on the disc swap (from switching from the RTE disc 1 to disc 2) can be eliminated?
