  • PSP E-1000 for €99.99 - PAL Market Release - Announced at Gamescom

In other Sony hardware news, they have also announced at Gamescom that they they will be bringing the new PSP E-1000 to the PAL market, for 99.99 euros. With the release, Sony has stripped away PSP's Wi-Fi support, and has instead forced users to download their MediaGo application. MediaGo is a software program that has been around for awhile now, that lets you surf the PlayStation Store for games and everything else PSP related. MediaGo also offers other features, such as converting your movies to a PSP compatible format.

While most attendees to the SCEE press conference at gamescom will have anticipated some announcements around PlayStation Vita, our upcoming next generation portable, few would have predicted the unveil of the brand new PSP E-1000.

Value for money is the goal with this new model that will retail at just €99.99 (RRP), accompanied by an exciting range of PSP Essentials titles that will retail at only €9.99 (RRP) and will include Invizimals: The Lost Tribe, EyePet Adventures, FIFA 12 and many more.

While PSP E-1000 does not include Wi-Fi, it will still provides access to the full catalogue of PSP games either on UMD or from PlayStation Store via Media Go. The design is also slightly different, with a Charcoal Black finish – the same as on the slimmer PS3 model – to give more of a matte feel.

PSP E-1000 will be available across PAL. But that’s not all that was announced at the SCEE gamescom press conference – be sure to read our posts on the PS3 price cut and announcements and the new social applications and games coming to PlayStation Vita. You can also watch the full press conference right here on PlayStation.Blog until 6pm BST / 7pm CET on Wednesday.

It looks like as of right now, this is scheduled to be a PAL market release. No announcement on other markets yet.

One last time for Sony to try and push their PSP onto people.

Would have been better to just cut costs dramatically on current PSP stocks rather then manufacture and release a trimmed down version....its barely gonna sell i can tell you that.

I heavily doubt that people would go for this since PSV is out, as the PSV does have WI-FI, i think they just wanted a more cleaner look as opposed to the other models. Another system for devs to look into.

Is this Sony's idea of Nintendo's microGBA... but instead of making the same system more compact, the just took crap out. Sony partialPSP.

I suppose the real bottom line is money. Sony is going to be spending A LOT less to make these. Even the 'Shiny Finish' is gone

i think this model is going to cater to people who buy a psp vita because sony recently did a survey ages ago asking japanese what they wanted in the vita lot of them said umd drive, and now this turns up out of the blue, i guess they couldn't have fitted a umd drive on a vita so they came up with this instead, with it's low price point, a lot of people will be picking this up with their vita to get the best of direct download and umd discs. but what remains unanswered is will sony phase out the psp 3000 models now? it seems that they are in the process of phasing them out and leaving this horrendous model in it's place.

That doesn't make any sense. They're 2 different console generations. The Vita won't have UMDs, but proprietary cards.

That did not take long. It looks like it is already hacked

The two people who have achieved this wanted to remain anonymous for now, what can be understood not to have any problems. A video is available to show the feat achieved. A priori, Sony would have just removed the item and wifi would not have changed the hardware side. Namely that the firmware installed on this console is 6.50.
