there is nothing better about xbox live! i hear all this hype about oooo we pay so our service is soo great! ppsshhhh thats straight BS! my buddy has live we play black ops and ufc 2010.

we hardly ever get to play his ufc. wen we actually find someone after waiting forever it gets dissconnected. if we wanna play ufc 2010 we do it on psn. black ops again what the hell is the hype about it? seriously i havent seen any thing on live that i cant do on psn.

all stuff aside if we play we play on psn even he would rather come to my place an play n psn.

my experience (limited and from a european country) is that xbox live has lower delays, ghosts and whatnot, thus being much better. A few ms in a fps can make a lot of difference.

It may be that psn is better in the states, or xbl worse, and thus why some users here say they noticed no diference

Sony allready has a paid service, though i've never tried that, does that affect game playing? or is just the discounts on the store and ocasional gifts?

PSN needs rebuildind, from sonys servers and from ps3 firmware, to make it safe, whoever heard of credit card numbers being transfered without any encryption?

I'm a webpublisher who's made a few buddies from my days in school and most of those guys are in the field of securing sites. Here is what one of my buddies told me.

"Sony got hacked but what happened was the hacker left them a dirty little surprise that wasn't caught until well after he was force disconnected. Most companies assume that when they shut out the hacker the attack is over and they patch the hole he used to get in. In this case him leaving something behind wasn't caught and by the time its users started reporting being kicked out his dump had started executing and forcing psn networks to stall out. Not only did this hacker steal information but he left something behind that started erasing and duplicating internally on the servers (hence the reports from users claiming that games were acting out right before the service went down entirely). Chances are by the time sony got to it the damage was too great and therefore they had two options 1. Negate all achievements, purchases, etc and deal with the nightmare of it. 2. Export the db tables for each user and rebuild it's network all over again. Keep in mind Sony just hired almost a dozen i.p. specialist and almost just as many security experts after firing a few over the jailbreak psn masking happened. If they can get psn back up in as little as 7 days it'll be a miracle and chances are you will have lost all of your activity for up to 5 days prior to the initial attack".

This dude has a background in UI security and works for IBM so I take his word for it plus it's in line with lots of what ps corp has put out in the news.

XBL is by far the superior service and has been prove by numerous studies. If the xbox controller was more compact they might actually be winning the console wars flat out. The monthly fee (best in bulk months) is well worth it..I use ps3 for only a few exclusives and for games that don't feature many multiplayer aspects (because those end up on the shelf at gamestop sooner than xbox game discs) and often for lower prices. Psn usually gets a good rap because it's free but while free it's missing tons of basics like the ability to be invisible to your friendslist and cross game chatting, etc.

For a long time I was huge PSN supporter, then I got the 360 one of the things that make XBL better for me is the integration of twitter & facebook and ESPN (Watching memphis beat the spurs in HD) and when I played COD on PS3 It would lag, and I would get dropped often, but I have yet to have that happen on the XBL I am not sure what Microsoft did or is doing but I feel better about paying the 40.00 on XBL versus the 40.00 I spent on Playstation+ (ok I got some 10 year old game free, and a chance to DL a game for an hour, wow ----LAME) and like netham45 said "parties" need we say more?

That was one of the reasons I stopped playing online years ago.
The type of games I enjoyed playing at the time didn't get many people in play areas.
You might occasionally find one or two, but hell, I could easily do the same thing with calling up a couple buds and setting up a small lan party at one of our houses.

same here, warhawk is 1 of the best games for split screen online (in my opinion . . .everyones entitled to 1 right ?) and when you play the same highly skilled players . . . it gets boring after a while :/

i STRONGLY AGREE bigger community is EVERYTHING !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i wud pay if they had dedicated srvers and more people online . . . .i dont really get what the whole 'user base' thing is about . . . .but to my understanding . . . if dedicated servers means MORE people on fewer servers - BETTER connection . . .ill happily pay no more than 10pounds / 15 dollars a year . . . lol seriously . . . .

When Sony does make a FEE than Sony must make it like XBL.

Currently Sony does only forward to the Publisher Server for Online Play.

XBL does not forward to any Publisher Server because all Online Games Run on XBL Server from Microsoft.

I don´t pay for only forwarding to a publisher server.

I cannot believe what I am reading! So an external threat seriously hacked sony's PSN servers, a huge multi-billion pound industry, who can afford "highly-skilled programmer and staff" to implement their network, and it got f***ed by them that easily. Put it this way would this ever happen to xbox live? And xbox live is better, I started using it again recently as I got my membership massively reduced through expert zone, xbox live works without any real down time and best of all hasn't had any cases where someone has hacked and s**wd up microsofts servers. I still myself wish xbox live was cheaper or even free but it is actually worth it. I personally (and I'm sure a lot of other psn users) wouldn't pay for psn the way it was. Xbox live is worth it in terms of better reliability and match's not timing out etc, voice over chat and loads of other stuff.

but anyway, if this is true, someone must have really hacked their servers? and possibly deleted some of their data? though that should have been backed up anyway. this seems kinda extreme to start from scratch so they must have done some significant damage :O

If this is true, then it's how I said on an earlier thread about how this new psn might require a fee in order to play online. There excuse to charge a fee for online could very well be this, maybe just maybe it wasn't anon and maybe just maybe Sony didn't take advantage of this situation. Hear me out, anon attacked the psn but sony quickly resolved it and anon called off the attack, Sony being who they are might have said to themselves,"lets sabotage psn and let the people think it was hacked and they will automatically think about anonymous, then after a few days we feed the people some good 'ole bull sh#t and claim in order to continue to provide the best online service, we will have to charge a fee". I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if they did this it's $ony after all

But, if they are really going to charge a fee for online, why should anyone buy or play with the Ps3, everyone would change to Xbox 360 and Sony would be ****** up those dummys, i hope it's not true.

Personally a lot of integration , third party additions, big gaping holes in their security, and a few other factors played into PSN being down. Sony has been full of fail ,the cracks are just beginning to show up.

As for Sony charging for PSN , well this wouldn't be the first time they went back on their word and taken something of value away from it's customer base.

I agree with Th1323 that Sony charging for PSN would be shooting themselves in the foot with a 20mm cannon, but that also works on the assumption that Sony has common sense. As we all know Common sense isn't common.

Wow! They can create firmware after firmware, but can't create a reliable network? *smacks self on the head* Now it makes sense. Sony cares more about it's investments than the consumer. So while they put up walls too keep us away, the people who they claim to be protecting are defenseless. It all makes sense now.

No one would switch to Xbox unless Sony was going to make every person create new PSN accounts. If Sony did this, then, yes, everyone would switch to the more reliable network. And, if Sony charged people for online play, then, like others have said, they would have to have their network as secure as Xbox.

who ever hacked Sony's servers had some major skills and was in there way longer then Sony wants to admit. If what I read earlier in this thread is true, then the person was in there quite a long time before Sony detected him. It takes quite a bit of familiarity of a system to leave them with the gift that is rumored to have been left. To get that familiarity one has had to spend some time in the system before detection. Who knows the gift could of been merely a distraction for the real payload which has yet to be revealed. Maybe it has been revealed and thus the reason why PSN is being rebuilt.

What ever the reasons , one thing is clear , if the aforementioned rumor is true... Sony's network, like it's console has suffered a fail of moderate proportions.
