PSX-SCENE Forum Discussion for Sony PlayStation/PsOne/PS2/PS3/PSP/PS VITA
  • PSN Shuts down at Night for Young Koreans.

It seems that Sony will be shutting down the PSN for underage Korean players. The Korean law states that there will be a six hour block at night around 12 AM to 6 AM and prevent players from going online or onto the PlayStation Store . However, this law previously was only stated for PC users, but is now intended for consoles as well. This was due to the fact that online gaming was becoming insensitively addictive to underage players. However, this law also goes to the Xbox Live Members as well as those who go online with the Nintendo 3ds. Like the limitations to the reduction in game sharing slots, this will be implemented on November the 18th of 2011. It also seems that Sony will start to prevent account creation from 18 November and onwards, and it also seems that Sony will now be monitoring IP addresses to prevent account creation after 18th November. This law will also impact the PS Vita when released.

"It seems that Sony have gone overboard and will be shutting down the PSN" if it's a law, that they must follow, then it's not really sony themselves "going overboard", they are just doing as they must...

Its not Sony's fault...It's a law. Corporations aren't that almighty as people make them seem. If you wanna be in a certain market you gotta abide to the country's rules. Its just part of doing business.

"Sony have gone overboard" ? 1. Go to Google 2. Search "gone overboard" 3. Read what it means 4. Facepalm yourself 5. Come back and edit the post. Done By the way.. I agree with this law. I think it's a good way too keep little kids from becoming socially impaired. They should be outside playing with kids their own age... but knowing koreans they will probably study for 16 hours a day now... seriously... it was on the news.

You think kids should be outside playing with kids their own age between 12am and 6am?

Personally, I would have made it from 10P to 6A on school nights and 11p (maybe 12A) to 6A on non school nights.

I don't know what the school days are in Korea though.

I wish this would make it into other countries as well.

That is just from some guy that finished his formal education a couple decades ago.
I would probably be considered an old fart by most around here.

Now, where are all those young Korean girlies at!!!!!

Um... It does not say in this news post if it is North Korea or South Korea. Sure you can guess and probably be right, but still, both are two completely different countries and it is a little retarded to just say "Korea" as if it is one country.

Do you know what "News" means? Just because YOU don't care it doesn't mean it is not news. Grab a dictionary.

@krytonic: That's exactly what I was thinking (NK vs SK). The North very probably does not need a law like this...Also, to whomever wrote the article, I am stealing the phrase "insensitively addictive", LOL.

huh...i wonder if the article have been modifed. nowhere did i read that "Sony has gone overboard".

and i wonder when they'll start putting that in for the USA. I have to agree with Korea for doing this. At least, this mean us older gamers can finally play games without listening to ppl whine, bitch and moan about being a bad player. but i doubt this would also mean we won't see any racial or bigorty on the comms...

Take a look at a satellite picture of NK at night, and take a guess.

      At midnight?

I support this as well though, for the same reason. Playing games with their friends is making them socially impaired. It's much better that they play by themselves.

LOL. Now it's the government that must teach the kids not to keep playing through the night, not the parents.

Ridiculous. Parents like this should be slapped in the face.

just to clear things up its SK. (tbh i dont have any idea why people would honestly think NK kids are even allowed to play video games) there is a huge problem with addictive gamers over there. its actually so bad that they defined the standards for video game addiction. there is a decent expose on this if you watch PBS Frontline about youth in the digital age. its just their form of prohibition. im surprised it didnt come sooner.

just to be clear im not taking sides here, but personally i believe sometimes and outside source has to intervene in order to do whats best for a whole. if parents could have solved this problem on their own they would have. its just a problem that got out of hand unfortunately.
