PSN Online Passes Arriving to the PS3 this Fall

If you actually buy new games and support the developers, this doesn't affect you in the slightest. Only people who buy used games have to pay $10 for the online pass. If you're going to buy a used game, you might as well just pirate instead because either way the developer gets none of your money.

I buy my games new, but I'm outraged, this is just a way to nickel and dime people, it also means that some games I may have bought, I won't now because I cant try it online, (such as with MAG, I loved the game, but if they used the pay-pass crap, Id never have gotten to try it and thus never have bought it, in the end, Sony's going to be hurting developers, because people with half a brain.. can't borrow a game to try it out and see how it is (for example, the yearly Call of Duty's, since the mainstay of the game is online, if I cant try it online if I borrow it, I'm not gonna buy it)

They'll feel a backlash from multi-console households, at least the codes (if they're smart) will be tied to a persons PSN account and not to the console itself.

Though I can see blockbuster/gamefly making up accounts for all the games and giving the account login and such with the game, and then changing the password upon each return, and charging an extra 10$ if a person tampers with the account.

also Clark.. digital purchases are exempt from tax in canada, (seeing that 1.13 math.. I'm guessing your from Ontario)

@Square: I'm in my early 20's and I've lost faith in not only my generation, and those after mine, seeing as how they line up for their yearly copy/paste of Madden and Call of Duty

I can see that to be a cause of people not wanting to get teh game if they can't use their own PSN accounts to play online. Plus, they'd have o create a new user on their PS3 just for that one account. And I know there's always a good number of people that legitimately pay for their games or get them as gifts, and I can happily say I'm in that group that does. So there should be some faith left.

Actually come to think of it buying used cost more now due to the online charges on used PS3 games.

New 59.99 x 1.13 = 67.78
Used 54.99+ 10.00 = 64.99 x 1.13 = $73.43 CND = WOW (unless there is no tax on pass ) = $72.13 CND

This has been happening for a while, with Mortal Kombat, all kinds of games. They just get cheaper. No big used game corporation would keep the price to where it would be higher, where's the point in that?

It would drop to 47.99 then to probably 34.99 on average.

That is correct i am from Ontario with HST 1.13. I am in my mid 20's so i have seen my fair share of games from different era and such, games are getting much nicer but the quality is no longer there. IMO we need a new spark somewhere to get games up to level , NHL 12 for example only getting nicer but not better in terms of gameplay. They just keep shelling out the same game every year with the same bugs and call it a new game. COD is one of those games.

This makes the cost of the console increase dramatically. The main reason i would buy a ps3 over a 360 is the hidden cost involved with xbox live, and now this thing sony is doing is even worse. xbox360 is $300 + $65 wifi adapter + $50/year xbl. Say i want to play games online on my console for 4 years....thats $565 before the cost of games and assuming I never break a controller. Compare that to a $300 ps3 160gb with free psn, wifi included, and the choice was CLEAR once the keys got released and the scene started back up... now this tactic by sony ups the cost of a ps3 to possibly $300 + $120/year if I only play one new game per month. After 4 years, that makes the cost of ps3 $780. They went from $300 one time fee to $780+ with perpetual fees. All these figures are assuming im playing backups online and have zero cost of games. Thats over 150% increase in price to play their console. I would say that is at best unreasonable, and short of psn getting totally pwned with keygens or dedicated cfw servers for each game, I will reluctantly upgrade my pc instead or buy a 360 and pay their bs yearly fee....On a side note id add that paying 300, 565, or 780 for a console should enable me to do wtf I want with it. :grumble: :grumble: :back to troll cave:

Well screw sony i'm not paying for a crap online experience. Xbox live is far better and worth paying for, their servers have little or no lag in comparison to PSN. Seems to me that sony are just trying to get back some money that they have lost and making the consumer pay for it. Very bad practice if you ask me. I for one am now going to boycot sony and never buy another sony product ever!

Not true, if you purchased all of your games new then up until they did this, they had retail value used if you wanted to sell them or trade them in. That value just took a hit, so it does affect us. The dev got full price from my initial purchase.

Not just because of this, but the ruthless and thoughtlessness towards there consumers, I'm done with $ony. Removing Other OS was really the last straw, and YES I DID USE OTHER OS, but this BS is insane. This will not affect me in the slightest, as I buy most of the games I plan to do heavy online play on new, but for those who cannot afford to, this is a slap in the face. So when the servers no longer support the game you play online, cause they cant forever, do I get a refund. Or what if the game is A$$, and the online base is really low, but I love it and there is no one to play online with, what then. The first game with the pass is resistance 3. Which sure is going to be a bad ass game. Resistance 2, 2 years after its release was $55 USED. It's going to suck for real good games even after years

you clearly have never been into a gamestop, MOST of the used games are $5 cheaper than a new purchase, so no it's not retarded, yes maybe if the game is 3 years old it may be $30, but Call of Duty: World At War, still goes for $40, so... $40+$10=$50.
