But its only effective when theres a method to allow cfw users to play online otherwise its hurting the people who are strictly official firmware

People love to play online and they hate paying for new games for one you cant return it and 2 its costly for some.

So if there buying a game used and they notice they need the online pass to play people will just over look it because its cheep and buy one anyway so a 40$ used game + 10$ Pass + Tax = around the same amount as the game would be new with pass included

EDIT: Also, who's really playing online with cfw now anyway? it's pretty difficult and quite a daring process in itself. For Sony to take this kind of action against a threat that is almost non-existent is quite low. At this point its more harmful then problem solving.. there just going to stop a LOT of online play from happening as this is likely to take a little while to catch on with the common user. I should only hope the Sony worshipers are hit by this as well. are they really as amazing as you make them out to be?

If I were really bothered about online play on ofw, I'd buy a pre owned copy, and new copy, use the code from the new copy, return it..keep the pre owned

Okay, so if this is the case that we have to purchase a pass to get online with newer games, then they should just stop caring abou t keeping people who pirate games offline, they would still have to shell out cash to use online gaming on games they pirated, and it would allow them to access the PSN store where they could actually pay for that DLC they're being denied from both spectrums. (Both the people who develop homebrew who refuse to crack it, and Sony for refusing to sell it.) Just up front, I know this wont happen, it just seems to make more sense financially for Sony to open the store back up to jailbroken systems is all.

I'm loling so hard, i'm pretty sure this new program can be bypassed with CFW if we ever get the NPDRM keys everyone wants. Hilarious! So not only does one have to pay for an activation code for older games that didn't require them to play online, but anyone who rents/gamefly/buys used will also have to purchase a pass to play. You'd think they'd just cut out the middle man and charge for PSN and get it over with....meh to me paying to play online is about the dumbest thing in the world! (Yes, even in the realm of MMORPG and FPS) Next thing you know, they'll create it so that the firmware won't allow for LAN playing. Way to sink your battle ship Sony!

I'm not surprised by this move $ony is making , just another way to charge for online and blame this to piracy and homebrew community. Well i did see this coming miles away this move will likey give Micro$oft the upper hand on the console market. Well doesn't effect me at all i spend most of my time working, sleeping and playing emulator to have some quick fun. 1990's to 2002 was the life light for gaming for sure, now gaming has entered the FPS/MMO era.

Actually come to think of it buying used cost more now due to the online charges on used PS3 games.

New 59.99 x 1.13 = 67.78
Used 54.99+ 10.00 = 64.99 x 1.13 = $73.43 CND = WOW (unless there is no tax on pass ) = $72.13 CND

They'll feel a backlash from multi-console households, at least the codes (if they're smart) will be tied to a persons PSN account and not to the console itself.

Though I can see blockbuster/gamefly making up accounts for all the games and giving the account login and such with the game, and then changing the password upon each return, and charging an extra 10$ if a person tampers with the account.

also Clark.. digital purchases are exempt from tax in canada, (seeing that 1.13 math.. I'm guessing your from Ontario)

@Square: I'm in my early 20's and I've lost faith in not only my generation, and those after mine, seeing as how they line up for their yearly copy/paste of Madden and Call of Duty
