PS3 System Software Update 4.31 Incoming

Sony is about to roll out yet another system software update. Been another update to improve system stability this one, for now, wont be mandatory. So it's unlikely to target the recent custom firmware releases. For now...

About PS3 System Software Update 4.31:

I’m posting this message to inform you that there will be a minor firmware update (v.4.31) released on the evening of Monday, October 29th.

There will not be PlayStation Network maintenance during this time; online play and access to apps will not be affected during the release of this update.

This is not a mandatory update. However, we suggest you keep your systems updated with the latest firmware, as these updates further improve overall system stability and help provide you with the best online entertainment experience possible.

To update to v.4.31, select Settings from your Xross Media Bar (XMB) *> System Update > Update via Internet and then follow the on-screen instructions.

Wouldn't be surprised if CFW4.31 pops up(as useless as it would be) just as a FU to Sony.

This is just plain sad. Why bother upgrading or pushing out an update if its not mandatory. I don't get it.

updating is a pain, it can brick your console if the power goes out (there is sandy going on,) and it is just to fix a couple games that have random crashing right now.

The giant crab being pissed because its console got rapped.

Well for starters i hope those who are in "Sandy's" path remain safe and good luck to those out there. Secondly yea its just another useless attempt by Sony to fix the current problem, I don't see any point in upgrading to 4.31, haha and if you go to look at it its the reciprocal of 3.41 (which got jailbroken to begin with)

I wouldn't go so far to say we have them on the run. I'm sure they have a trick or two left up their sleeves. But hopefully lv0 key is what everyone says it is and that Sony can't do shit about it.

Depends. I've seen some people complaining about firmware PS3 firmware updates for maybe 2 years now (not related to CFW, but the number of firmware updates that have been done). Personally i've never seen the big issue. Each firmware update takes me less than 10 minutes. I know that someone have slow download speed from PSN however.

I dont think it will be much of a FU if this 4.31 updates does nothing regarding security of the firmware. Seeing that it is optional, i think it does nothing over 4.30 regarding security.

Has this been confirmed yet, that it is an attempt to fix the security? As someone mentioned earlier, it is mostly a fix for Monster Hunter Portable 3rd HD. If you dont have this game, it is no point in updating indeed, that is also why the update is optional. I think it will take at least some weeks before the next firmware comes out that will fix something regarding security.

What you dont have your ps3 and TV on a redundant UPS with backup power generator? How do you play when the power goes out?

J/K I know what you mean though, never had power go out during an update (knock on wood) but I have had it go out when saving a game of Madden 2001 back on PS2,... my glorious save ... corrupted.

This OFW seems to be meant to fix a freeze problem with Monster Hunter 3 HD (Japan only).

Edit: And why not, change the SEN passphrase while at it ?

Good thing that Sony try to stop all the pirates from stealing PSN bandwidth...they got free game with CFW 4.30, but they must not have PSN for free...please do the ban hammer Sony and keep your PSN clean !
