It is an app you run on your PC to stream media to various devices (PS3 being one of them). Been out for a long time, jut a new version.

works good especially when it converts the .mkv files so the ps3 can play them but one issue you cant copy the videos because it doesnt know the size of it and when choosing whAT folders to share the new window blacks out and cant choose but other than that great job

why does a windows user need this when Windows media player can do all this stuff and it's pretty easy to set it up.

Because this one can play .mkv and any other video files on your PS3 or Xbox 360 without any issues. I'm pretty sure it can do other things that WMP can't, but I don't remember what they are. It's been awhile since I used it.

i can play .mkv files just fine. go download klite codec pack and it'll solve your problems with WMP as a media server

So you have to download codecs for WMP to play certain files, with this you don't. There is a reason that Windows users could use this instead of WMP. This does other things WMP doesn't too.

you need codec with this too. when you stream videos your PC does the processing and decoding of the video files then streams the video to the device. you will ALWAYS need codecs

Oh yeah? Then explain to me how I am using this without installing any codecs? I literally have a freshly formatted computer, installed this and guess what? It is playing all my mkv videos, divx videos, xvid videos etc etc without installing any codecs.

Don't say you will need something with this when you haven't even used it yourself to know.

sorry to say, but Windows Media Player sucks. There are many free options that are way better. Independent developers usually add features lacking in software released with operating systems. That's why Sourceforge is as big as it is. The same is true with partitioning software, word processors, art tools, internet browsers, etc, etc, etc, etc. You name anything that is included in Windows and I could tell you a free open source option that puts it to shame

because this already includes the codecs?

Then my point is proven. Read my first post and I clearly stated that you don't have to download extra codecs with this.

@krytonic - I haven't looked at the source but more than likely they were included if it's working for you without installing Combined Community Codec Pack or K-Lite Codec pack. I think where the confusion is coming in is some people only know how to use WMP or other software included in windows and are accustomed to dealing with the limitations and the need of add ons for that kind of stuff

Yeah it is kind of like how the most used internet browser is Internet Explorer even though it is one of the worst ones, if not the worst.
