PS3 Firmware 4.21 Is Out Now And Optional

Another day another system software update and again for "system stability." No official news on the EU and US blogs but I have found valid sources linked below. As rhuckle mentioned when submitting this news tip. I too don't think PSN access for custom firmware users will be effected since the update is not mandatory. But one does wonder what these updates are really changing. I guess only time will tell.

Find out what features are included in PS3 system software update 4.21.

An update to the PS3 system software was released on 5 July 2012. If you update your PS3 system, the system software version will be 4.21 and the following features will be updated. In order to download PS3 system software version 4.21, you will need a minimum 200MB of free space on either the PS3 Hard Disk Drive (System Update) or on removable storage media (PC Update).

Main features in system software update version 4.21

System stability during use of some PS3 software has been improved.

This is the same way it happend with going from 3.55 to 3.56 to 3.60. Slowly but surely they boxed us back out.

PSN still works, I just logged in. But, like the article says, only time will tell until it's over.

Guess one should get some online gaming while he still can

i would suggest there be a spoofer adjustment and pass phrase adjustment to the psn enabler apps to reflect the 4.21 firmware.

This is one of those dubble edge sord deals... we dont want them to fix holes, BUT the fact that they have to get off there fat lazy TECH azz, cause the SCENE is HOT!!!!! makez MeH sUpPa HaPpY!!!!

maybe there leaving it optional, cuase they wanna see who takes it and who dont, so they can narrow down the ips, that dont take it.. and MAYBE try to start bans huh? geuss we gonna have to waite a see.. spoof spoof spooooof!

lots of people wont take it just cause they wanna spend the time they have gaming instead of watching loading bars i would think. but im sure if they made it mandatory, someone would have to change something in F**Kpsn almost for sure,

maybe even have to change this sen enabler, but that depends how its being done.
it depends if its for example spoofing the newer firmware so u dont update, but loggin in as the older update would.
then bam, the servers change and only the new firmware knows how to log into it.,

who knows

My 4.20 OFW PS3 (which I got for online play) still works fine on PSN without any kind of tricks or tools. I don't have my CFW PS3 connected to the internet though.

yeah I can still get online... BUT I cant connect to anyone to play, maybe im just impaciant, but MUD FIM is bumpin at this hour, and right now I aint got noone to rip it wit!. GoT MiLK?

Yeah, looks like this update became mandatory and blocked PSN access for us. I even tried one of the SEN enablers http://psx-scene.com/forums/content/...nts-rsod-2397/ and it's a no-go
