PS3 DEX - PS3GEN 4 Game Limit Increased?

Not wanting to convert your PlayStation 3 to DEX? Worried about the four game limit in PS3GEN? You might want to read on. It seems with a little HEX editing you can have more than four games, a maximum of 255 to be exact! That is if you follow the guide released by a Russian developer named xerius.

About:

PART1
Increase the number of games in ps3gen. ps3gen after formatting creates only 4 games. You can create up to 255 games (FF in hex)

1. You will need a hex editor. I use Winhex. Run winhex. Open Tools-> Open Disc. Select the hard disk is formatted in ps3gen.
2. Go to Offset 2000B
3. You will see this

4. Change the value of the byte at offset 2000B for the desired number of games and add bytes 05D3A0 and 0B as much as you need. An example. I did 5 games. Do not forget after change winhex click Save.
5. Here's what happened

PART2
Change Partition Size:

1. Go to Offset 1CC
2. Change 1 and 2 bytes. Maximum size of partition 2Tb

You can easily make any partition size to 2TB. For example: You want to make a 500GB partition. Change the byte 1 to 3E and byte 2 to 80.

Nice job... Now people can edit partition size for game to be used...
Before partition size was fixed to 45 gig per game, now is possible to create partition accordingly to size of exact game...
Amazing how scene is moving.... nice...

Now we just need a way to run games via the DEX BDEMU without needing a official game update.

Someone will probably release a tool that will automate creating more partitions.

You have to create and edit each partition for each game ?
Sounds like a pain in the ass to me.

It should be fairly easy to create a small program to change these values for you (like maybe scan a dir of games and create the appropriate # of games + sizes); I suspect to see one pop up at any time now that this simple yet effect hack has been discovered.

I did the steps but I get the following message to recording a game in the 5th partition:

[Error] Process finished with error. err_no=0000045D

So can a new store bought PS3 be converted into DEX? My 3.55 gave out on me and I am not paying $400+ for a PS3 just due to firmware and I don't trust the E3 flasher due to it's high brick rate if not done properly and I can't solder the progskeet. I can however CEX2DEX as I have already done that for a friend. With this I don't need peek or poke and can play more then four games at a time.

Not at this time. You'd need a way to get your per console keys, which currently can't be done without cfw.

K thanks looks as if I need to drop $400 on a new PS3, maybe I will sell my dual NAND 360 slim or find someone to trade with me but thanks for the info.

Before you spend that kind of cash you should check your local pawn shops. They'll let you check the system version before buying and should be able to find one for around $200 without any real hassle. It's where I found mine at - first pawn shop I checked too

Pawn shops here refuse to take any systems after the whole Xbox 360 RROD fiasco, they said they lost to much money with folks selling systems to them that were heat gunned to work just long enough to test as I have already went that route but thanks man for trying to help.

that sucks but can't really blame em. I'm sure they did lose a lot of money but it's their own fault for not checking the systems to see if they'd been opened

So let me get this straight .... we are at the point in which we can run 3.55 and now, newly discovered keys rendering some 3.60 games playable, and even more we are able to run 3.61+ games via dex ps3gen loading. So have we gotten closer to that major fw breakthrough ? DEX seems to be the only way possible to play 3.61+ games without a dongle and by the looks of it 4.0+ games.

Is it time to change my 3.55 Fat 60gb launch model to this rebug dex that just game out.

Somebody say that when format hdd it make 45gb partition. but how then i have 4 partitions when format hdd with only 60GB?
and one question: when i install more games one hdd, how can i switch them? when i want play other game on hdd?

ps3gen will always create 4 partitions no matter the size of the drive(in your case most likely 4x 15gb) whereas formatting on the ps3 will give you 1x45gb and 1x15gb or there abouts.
To switch games open ps3gen and go to command and at the bottom select BD Emulator HDD Utility then highlight the game and click the Set Default button.
