PS3 Debug Firmware 4.20 Released By Anonymous Source

With all the news regarding CEX to DEX conversions and the recent debug firmware 4.11 been leaked today news comes rather surprisingly that debug firmware 4.20 has been release to the masses. The source is yet again anonymous, the way I like it, so lets hope that future debug firmware will also be leaked as I'm sure many will be converting there retail units to debug soon.

Ok i havnt been following this CEX to DEX conversion. What will this 4.20 debug firmware actually allow us to do once we convert our consoles?

They didn't have the file up (pulled) when I leaked the file yesterday trough PS3SceneFiles. Seems like they have put it back up since I uploaded it.

For devs you get a suite of tools to ease software development. For pirates you get a BD emulator.

Oh yeah, and for the non-pirate non-dev people, you can play retail discs. I beilieve you can also easily switch firmwares with DEX.

Newbie here, does ps3 need to be on 3.55 to convert it to DEX?

I think he's on 4.21 official or something similar. So yes, you need to be at least 3.55 or lower to do the conversion

well, I just want to say THANKS to this anonymous source and all the other developers that continue helping the PS3 scene. I am glad I decided to stay on 3.55 even though I can't use my ps3 to play Resistance 3, Journey or even use Netflix. Hopefully this will bring the PS3 to the front and center in my living room again.

well, a cfw would be useful because of running more than 1-4 backups on an external drive...

thinking about it, i think i'm gonna wait out until some team like rebug releases a combo of a mfw and dfw. i can see them doing that making everything like butter (or bacon grease )

long time ago I was here so I have a really simple question because i did not follow everythink after my little brother update my ps from 3.55 -_-' is it possible to update an CEX 4.10 to DEX 4.20?

From my knowledge and please correct me if I am wrong:

Things you can do with an official DEX firmware:
1) Play retail discs up to DEX version you installed.
That's it.

Things you can do with a modified DEX firmware:
1)Play retail discs up to DEX version you installed.
2)Play backups up to 3.55

Off course, you must be on CFW 3.55 to turn your CEX to DEX.

Am I missing something???

You need to be on 3.55 to convert to DEX.

I disagree with you, the amount of PS3's still running 3.55 is getting smaller every week. A lot of people are locked out because of a) updating by mistake b) owning a machine that had 3.55+ when it was released. An Hardware Flasher is not really a solution because it cost big bucks... so only the "select few" are getting presents.

I'm happy the PS3 scene is getting a heartbeat again but I am still praying someone will get hold of newer keys
