The difference is you would have to pay the guy who fixed your car even tho it wasn't done completely. This guy isn't charging anybody a dime and it's not designed for everyone. Just because you don't have a use for it doesn't mean it's useless. What you basically said was "Hey buddy, even tho you just spent hours/days/weeks whatever working on this and decided to share it with everyone for free instead of keeping your mouth shut about your work like some developers do and never release anything, I have no use for it so it's garbage"

You can charge a person in many ways.
The way i see it, posting articles like this that is of no use to use (commoners) cost us readers frustration, aggravation, and most important of all TIME ..

@Metagondria - I don't think anyone will ever forget the horror of AOL charging by the minute and the endless stack of free trial discs that ended up being used for coasters. That argument doesn't apply anymore and also if your time is so valuable and it's bad for developers to waste your time by releasing incomplete stuff, yet it's ok to waste your own time by making comments about it. I'm not saying don't read it at all, just give it a quick once over and if it applies to you then great - if not, then move on. I'm sorry, but nowhere in the title or in the article was it misleading to make anyone think that it's what everyone's been waiting for (4.00 CFW). If I'm not mistaken, it even said developer next to it so I don't see why people get so upset when they mistakenly misread the title of an article and misinterpret it before "wasting" their time and then "wasting" their time by talking trash about the release/developer or just going on a rant. How much sense does that make?

Someone who fixes your car is gonna charge you, so your thanx would be mostly irrelevant. If you've paid PS3Hen to do this and he's failed to deliver what your agreement stipulates, then you should sue for your money back, or at least inquire about a refund.

That being said, I've noticed lately that every time there's a post like this, there's a drove of people complaining that [whatever the topic is] "isn't good enough" - Do most of you not realize that something like this is in no way intended for the regular, common user?

This is 'psx-scene' - the scope of the site is to keep track of everything that 'happens', which is related to hacking & homebrew on any Playstation product. Not all news is "news" to everyone, as some of you only care about apps and backup managers that are ready for most users, but that doesn't mean it doesn't belong, or that it's useless. It's simply something that's not for you. Would you goto wal-mart and complain that they drop the price on your least favorite food or product? No, because they don't ONLY sell things that YOU like.

First Sony is now using a Real random number to sign sh1t now so until we can get the private and public keys NOTHING above 3.55 without proper signing will run PERIOD.

Second did you morons even think that if we did find this number and signed some packages only to find out Sony changed something and WE CAN'T INSTALL THEM?? Huh did you think about that?? And this guy is nice enough to find out a way to install packages and a firmware so once we can sign em and you idiots go crazy because he's not devoting his life for YOU to be able to run homebrew!!

Do you even know how long it would take to "Brute Force Attack" a key like that?? To semi-quote Kakarottos "if we had 4 billion people helping everyday of every second it would take 1 billion years to crack it" the only way we can get this number is if by chance 2 packages are signed with the same random number.

The point of releasing things like this is because he figured out a way to open up some options on 4.0fw, he got from point a to point b, but were still a few steps away. if by putting this out there someone else figures out how to make the next step then were that much closer to getting what we want.

I understand that to most people this doesn't help them at all, this obviously isn't for them, its released purely on the hopes that 1 person might look at at and figure out that next step.

Because hacking a sophisticated device like the PS3 is not like riding a bike.
You need to, at least, be a computer engineer (with experience) and have knowledge in the security department.

I don't see some 15 yo kid having that knowledge to be honest (or the boy is a genius, but he would be occupied with something much more important than hacking a video game console in my opinion).

Most of the hackers in the scenes are usually peoples with noble intentions who have spare time, and use that time to share with others and make some stuff free.
They are usually talented peoples (sometimes work for big companies) and know what they're doing (they don't do drama, nor make crappy releases, some of them don't even stamp their names on it, wanna remain in the dark, and just release it).

This is how you recognize real hackers, meaning, peoples who actually know what they're doing, and wannabe's, who manipulate themes and a few lines of codes and call themselves "hackers".
I find this pretty pathetic, but well, just my opinion.

I'm gonna download that FW maker, spawn some 3.55 with some nice shinny colors and rename it "CS super kickass CFW" and release it. Then i can call myself a hacker.
And no one will be bitching with my release, super ninjas will defend it saying it's a good addition to the scene and it's making things advance ... LOL.

Sometimes i'm shocked, seeing how peoples can be naive.
