PSX-SCENE Forum Discussion for Sony PlayStation/PsOne/PS2/PS3/PSP/PS VITA
  • PS Vita OFW 2.00 Released, Welcomed With A "Hello World"

Today comes an update to the previously released official firmware for the PS Vita. The most hyped about feature is the introduction of PlayStation Plus and I would say it is rather enticing as it gives Plus users six free games. Also boasted is a much improved web browser bringing faster web surfing. Ok, enough about that. This update does block all user mode exploits and any older exploits you might be running on your Vita. So, for now, it is recommended that you refrain from updating.

On related news, PS Vita developer frostegater, has managed to run a Hello World on OFW 2.00. This Hello World is still running via the PSP Emulator on the PS Vita but shows there are other avenues to exploit the system.

    About PS Vita OFW 2.00:
Get PlayStation Plus, Internet browser improvements, email support and more - find out what's included in PS Vita system software update 2.00.

An update to the PS Vita system software was released on 20 November 2012. If you update your PS Vita system, the system software version will be 2.00 and the following features will be updated.

A PS Vita system software update is required to use PlayStation Network features and some features on the system. Also, downloading and installing the PS Vita system software update will update your PS Vita system's operating system to include the latest security patches, as well as new and revised applications, features and settings. It is recommended that you always maintain your system to use the latest version of the system software.
About frostegater Hello World on OFW 2.00:
For those of you worried that Sony might one day have a magic patch for all psp usermode exploits, frostegater has good news for you: Vita’s firmware 2.0 still has some holes in the PSP emu (screenshot below).

He proves it with a typical Hello world running inside the psp emulator of the Vita. It’s no surprise, as I mentioned before we still have dozens of game exploits available on the psp (and those are compatible with the psp emu on the Vita) – lots of which, I need to mention, were found by frostegater himself -, but it’s good to confirm that these undisclosed usermode exploits still run even after a release of a new Vita firmware.

At least the PSP emulator hacks are still in there. Bravo $ony for making a half-decent update for something for a change.

Well I happen to think the Vita is a nice handy system, all they need to do is to open it up to allow other apps to run on it and it will have a better chance to make it in this market, the brouught it out a little late also

I wish there was this much interest in the PS3; new users are a rarity to that scene.

Did anyone catch the fact you can run one of those disc exploits for the Wii on the Wii U allowing homebrew? I thought it would of been front paged as of day #1 you can run your emulators, games and your favorite multimedia player on the console.

What on earth makes you think that would be front paged here? This site is called psx-scene isn't it? Not nintendo-scene o.O

Out of curiousity, what would a full-decent update contain? And what would a great update contain?

once hacked, i think it might.

the quality of homebrew sdk and ease of programming will definitely be a deciding factor, of course. psp is fairly simple to write apps for, and i think that makes it so popular.

I for one hope the Vita doesn't get hacked for a while. You can't deny that the PSP died because of piracy. The Vita has been struggling to get off the ground, and I think it's a GREAT system, with so much potential. They just need to make some changes and have better AAA titles and sales will improve. But if hackers blow it open now, it could be the beginning of the end for the handheld.

It's not the hackers their fault. It's the people who develop the backup loaders to let it possible to run backups trough the devices.
