PS Vita - Firmware 1.81 Released - Blocks VHBL

While switching on your PS Vita today you might be met with the new system software update. There is little information regarding the change log at this time but I can say it blocks the use of VHBL. At least for the recent Monster Hunter Freedom Unite version of VHBL. (Although we can expect the others are too.) So if you don't want to lose homebrew capability on your Vita, I suggest you keep it away from any internet connection.

Now we know that many are holding back other exploits. We have also seen some news regarding kernel and user mode exploits. So I'm sure it wont be long that we will get another VHBL port... Or will we?

Why do they bother? The scene hackers will be battling with sony for the rest of the vitas life, its just a cat and mouse game they will never win.

Exactly, they're just stopping vhbl users from giving them money(forced update)
Hopefully we get a working proxy, maybe an update to Charlie's!?!

the only way they are going to stop sony is to proxy the update servers so the vita will stop calling home everytime it's switched on, that is the only way they are going to bypass this.

You got to try before you know. It took a pretty long time before someone made advancements in the PS3 scene after firmware 3.60. And if you're on firmware 3.60+ now, you're pretty much out of luck unless you buy a downgrade kit. And newer PS3s that started on firmware 3.60+ cant even be downgraded to 3.55 as far as i know. If Sony never bothered after 3.55, things would be quite different now.

It is not always about blocking things forever, but trying to limit it as much as possibe, and for as long as possible. I' would compare it a bit to antivirus. What is the point of updating the antivirus programs, new viruses are made all the time anyway. Still they try to limit it as much as possible.

I thought it was determined that Jailbreaking a Portable Device was Legal? So why is Sony breaking our balls?

For phones it is legal, but not for everything else. But eventhough if it was legal, it is not illegal trying to stop it.

The reason why game system companies try to stop it is because their business model relies heavily on software sales. They dont want any exploits to be open, just to be on the safe side.
