PS Vita Firmware 1.80 Incoming - What Does This Mean?

Sony VP Eric Lempel has announced the upcoming PS Vita firmware update. This update will finally bring PS1 classics to your PS Vita. Other additions will include gameplay screenshots (although restricted), cross controller support, playlists for your music needs, additional web browser and video support, MPO file recognition, something about maps... and "NEAR", far, whatever...

Ok. Need to stop there. Lets face it! Firmware 1.80 means VHBL!! And with FW1.80 around the corner this means we will see one of about five announced exploits allowing VHBL on the upcoming firmware. So... watch this space for your PS Vita news.

About PS Vita FW1.80:

Hi, everyone. One of the key announcements coming out of Gamescom today is that the next PS Vita System Software Update (v1.80) is coming your way late August, and will add support for playing PSone Classics on your PlayStation Vita. I know a lot of you have been looking forward to playing original PlayStation titles on the go. In addition, you will be able to make various setting changes while games are running and take screenshots of your gameplay. *It might not be possible to take screenshots in some applications, or in some parts of applications.

Other new features that will be added with the 1.80 update:

CROSS CONTROLLER
CONTROLS
MUSIC
WEB BROWSER
VIDEO
PHOTOS
GROUP MESSAGING
MAPS

The screenshot feature has been there since day 1 (just press the PS button and the Start button at the same time), i wonder why they mention it like it is first coming in firmware 1.80.

@yes159 I don't have a Vita but good point. If it is there, why mention it. Maybe some additional screen capture? I don't know...

It is the game developers themself who choose to enable the screen capture function or not while their game is running. Maybe the guy who wrote about the firmware release made a mistake in mentioning it.

Exactly, seems weird to mention it when it has always been there It is not a very promoted feature, i first heard about it reading a user post on a forum. It might be mentioned in the Vita manual, but i havnt read that. But even if it isnt something new, i guess that it doesnt hurt to mention this feature now, hopefully more people will know about this feature. If i had read that forum post back then, i probably still wouldnt have known about this feature.

Indeed. Seems like a mistake (that he forgot about it), or they simply wanted to promote the feature more.
